The Battle of Manila (Filipino: Labanan sa Maynila; Spanish: Batalla de Manila), the first and largest battle of the Philippine–American War, was fought on February 4–5, 1899, between 19,000 American soldiers and 15,000 Filipino armed militiamen. Armed conflict broke out when American troops, under orders to turn away insurgents from their encampment, fired upon an encroaching group of Filipinos. Philippine President Emilio Aguinaldo attempted to broker a ceasefire, but American General Elwell Stephen Otis rejected it and fighting escalated the next day. It ended in an American victory, although minor skirmishes continued for several days afterward.

The Central Colleges of the Philippines, Inc. (Filipino: Sentral Kolehiyo ng Pilipinas) also known as CCP is a coeducational educational institution located in Doña Imelda, Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. Santa Mesa is a district in Manila, Philippines. It is surrounded by Pasig River on the southwestern side, and by the San Juan River on its southern and eastern side. Land borders include the districts of San Miguel to the west and Sampaloc to the north; and to the northeast is Quezon City. Santa Mesa was formerly a part of the Sampaloc district, from which it was partitioned and separated after it had its own parish in 1911. The parish is now known as Old Sta. The San Juan River Bridge (Filipino: Tulay ng Ilog San Juan), also known as Pinaglabanan Bridge, San Juan del Monte Bridge, San Juan Bridge and the Old Santa Mesa Bridge, is a bridge that connects San Juan and Manila, spanning the San Juan River. The 46.85-meter (153.7 ft) bridge connects the N. Domingo Street in San Juan and Old Santa Mesa Street in Manila. The location of the bridge served as a battlefield during the 1896 Philippine Revolution against the Spaniards and the 1899 Philippine–American War. On, January 29, 1899, Colonel Luciano San Miguel, Filipino Commander had his first meeting with Colonel John M. Stotsenburg, Commander of the First Nebraska Volunteers on this bridge to discuss the boundaries of their respective forces. On February 4, 1899, an encounter between the Filipino and American forces led to a shooting incident and sparked the Battle of Manila.On February 5, 2009, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines installed a historical marker on San Juan River Bridge commemorating its role to the start of the Battle of Manila.

Victorino Mapa Street, also known by its short form V. Mapa Street, is the main north–south road in the district of Santa Mesa in Manila, Philippines. The street, including its eastern extension, runs for 1.6 kilometers (0.99 mi) from the junction with Magsaysay Boulevard in the north to Pat Antonio Street in the southeast by the San Juan River that serves as the district's border with San Juan and Mandaluyong. It is home to Don Bosco School, Manila, Unciano Colleges and General Hospital, and several new condominiums and a few motels. A portion of the street forms part of Radial Road 5 (R-5) of Manila's arterial road network where it links with Padre Sanchez Street (named after Jesuit priest Francisco de Paula Sanchez from the Ateneo Municipal de Manila) and eventually connects to Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong. It is served by V. Mapa LRT Station along Magsaysay Boulevard. Its section from its northern terminus at Magsaysay Boulevard to Valenzuela Street is designated as part of National Route 183 (N183), while its section from Valenzuela Street to P. Sanchez Street is designated as part of National Route 141 (N141); both numbered routes are part of the Philippine highway system. The rest of the route up to Pat Antonio Street is an unnumbered street.

Regina Apostolorum Academy is a private non-sectarian school located in Santa Mesa, Manila,.The school's name is named after their Queen of Apostles. The school was formerly known as Angelicum School. The director of the school is the Ms. Teresa Tuason and the principal is Ms. Janette Liwanag.

Santa Mesa station is a railway station located on the South Main Line in the city of Manila, Philippines. It is one of two stations (the other is Pasay Road) in the line to have its own access road. The station is the fourth station southbound from Tutuban and is the only railway station serving Santa Mesa. In addition to having its own dedicated access road, Santa Mesa station is also one of three stations (the others being Pasay Road and España) to have its original platforms extended and raised in order to accommodate new PNR diesel multiple units. The original platforms have been retained for the use of Commuter Express locomotives and especially for intercity trains, although Santa Mesa is not designated as a station where these trains can stop. The station used to serve the Santa Mesa-Mandaluyong branch line, also known as Guadalupe line, which used to run up to Antipolo and Montalban. This line has since been dismantled.

Don Bosco School Manila (full school name: Don Bosco School (Salesian Sisters), Inc. - Manila, also known as DBS), is an educational institution owned and operated by the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) in the National Capital Region of the Philippines. Established in 1989, Don Bosco School Manila offers co-educational education for primary (elementary) and secondary education (high-school and senior high school). Don Bosco School also offers night school (Alternative Learning System).

Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard, also known simply as Magsaysay Boulevard and formerly as Santa Mesa Boulevard, is the principal artery of Santa Mesa in Manila, Philippines. It is a six-lane divided roadway that travels east–west from Gregorio Araneta Avenue near the city's border with Quezon City and San Juan to Lacson Avenue and the Nagtahan Interchange, close to the district of San Miguel. The entire length of the boulevard serves as the boundary between Sampaloc in the north and Santa Mesa in the south with the LRT Line 2 running along its median. East of Gregorio Araneta, the road continues as Aurora Boulevard while west of Lacson, it extends as Legarda Street via Legarda Flyover into San Miguel and Quiapo. The LRT Line 2 has two stations along Magsaysay, namely Pureza and V. Mapa. It is also served by the Santa Mesa railway station near the Polytechnic University of the Philippines campus on Hipodromo and Anonas Streets. The boulevard was named after the seventh president of the Philippines, Ramon Magsaysay. It was formerly called Santa Mesa Boulevard, which in turn was formerly called Calle Santa Mesa. It also formed part of Highway 53. The road now known as Old Santa Mesa Street was part of the original Calle Santa Mesa, up to the San Juan Bridge, wherein what is now the current alignment of Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard was later extended from Santol Street to Quezon City. Its present-day section between Nagtahan and Old Santa Mesa Road was also the former right-of-way of tranvia until 1945.
