Ledgewood, New Jersey

The Ledgewood Historic District is a 41-acre (17 ha) historic district located in the Ledgewood section of Roxbury Township in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 18, 2013, for its significance in architecture and community development. It has 40 contributing buildings, 4 contributing structures, and one contributing site. It includes the King Store and Homestead and the Silas Riggs House, which were both previously listed individually.

The King Store and Homestead are historic buildings located at 209 and 211 Main Street, in the Ledgewood section of Roxbury Township, in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The Roxbury Historic Trust acts as curator for these Roxbury Township-owned buildings. They were purchased by the Township with Green Acres funding. The buildings were added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 29, 1994, for their significance in commerce from 1815 to 1928. Both were later added as contributing properties to the Ledgewood Historic District on April 18, 2013.

Roxbury is a township in Morris County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the township's population was 22,950, a decrease of 374 (−1.6%) from the 2010 census count of 23,324, which in turn reflected a decline of 559 (−2.3%) from the 23,883 counted in the 2000 census. The township is located approximately 36 miles (58 km) west-northwest of New York City, 27 miles (43 km) west-northwest of Newark, New Jersey and 26 miles (42 km) east of the Delaware Water Gap on the border of New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Roxbury was formed on December 24, 1740, from portions of Morris Township. It was formally incorporated by the Township Act of 1798 of the New Jersey Legislature on February 21, 1798, as part of the state's initial group of 104 townships. Portions of the township were taken to form Mendham Township (March 29, 1749), Washington Township (April 2, 1798), Chester Township (April 1, 1799), Jefferson Township (February 11, 1804), Mount Olive Township (March 22, 1871), Mount Arlington (November 3, 1890) and Netcong (October 23, 1894).Tom's Diner was featured in the music video from Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper.

The Roxbury School District is a community public school district that serves students in kindergarten through twelfth grade in Roxbury Township, in Morris County, New Jersey, United States.As of the 2018–19 school year, the district, comprising seven schools, had an enrollment of 3,551 students and 328.1 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 10.8:1.The district's high school also serves students from Mount Arlington, who attend as part of a sending/receiving relationship.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "GH", the third-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. The Shops at Ledgewood Commons is a shopping plaza in Ledgewood, New Jersey, United States. Its anchors are Ashley Furniture HomeStores, Marshalls, Walmart, Burlington, & At Home. It is an outdoor shopping plaza with a gross leasable area of 470,000 sq ft (44,000 m2). From the mall's opening in 1972 until 2016, it was branded Ledgewood Mall as a 518,246-square-foot (48,147 m2) enclosed mall.

Lake Rogerene (or Rogerine) is a privately managed 9-acre lake in Mount Arlington, New Jersey, within the boundary of Roxbury Township and encircled by the loop road Rogerene Way. The lake is managed by the Lake Rogerene Civic Association. In October 2020, three hiking paths were opened around the lake, called the Lake Rogerene Trails, with a total trail distance of 0.92 miles.

Roxbury High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school in the Succasunna section of Roxbury in Morris County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, serving students in ninth grade through twelfth grades, operating as the lone secondary school of the Roxbury School District, which serves more than 3,500 students.The school serves students from Roxbury, as well as from Mount Arlington, who attend as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the Mount Arlington School District.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,195 students and 121.9 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 9.8:1. There were 115 students (9.6% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 44 (3.7% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

Succasunna-Kenvil is a former census-designated place (CDP) located within Roxbury Township, in Morris County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2000 United States Census, the CDP's population was 12,569. For the 2010 census, the area was split into two CDPs, Succasunna (with a 2010 census population of 9,152) and Kenvil (3,009 as of 2010).

Lake Hopatcong is a commuter railroad station for New Jersey Transit. The station, located in the community of Landing in Roxbury Township, Morris County, New Jersey, United States, serves trains for the Montclair-Boonton Line and Morristown Line at peak hours and on holiday weekends. Service from Lake Hopatcong provides to/from Hackettstown to New York Penn Station and Hoboken Terminal. The stop is located on the tracks below Landing Road (Morris County Route 631) next to the eponymous Lake Hopatcong. The station consists of one active and one abandoned side platform, along with a shelter on the active platform. There is no accessibility for handicapped persons under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. Service through the Landing area began on January 16, 1854, for the Morris and Essex Railroad, but there was no stop at the shore of Lake Hopatcong. People who wanted to visit the lake had to get off at nearby Drakesville station and traverse from there to the lake. In 1882, after the Central Railroad of New Jersey built the Wharton and Northern Railroad to Charlotteburgh, there was added incentive to bring a station to the Lake Hopatcong area. The Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad, which took over the Morris and Essex tracks, established a stop in Landing in 1882. In 1910, service began by the Morris County Traction Company, an electric trolley railroad.The Lackawanna Railroad announced on July 15, 1910, that a new station would be built at Lake Hopatcong, just east of the nearby county bridge. The new station opened on May 28, 1911, a new all-concrete structure with two elevators and a complete walkway on the south side of the Morris Canal. Service on the Lackawanna Cut-Off, a new mainline just west at Port Morris, opened on December 24, 1911. The concrete overpass was demolished in 1982, after being condemned in 1978. The station depot on Landing Road continues to stand.

The Landing Masonry Bridge, also designated Bridge 44.53, is a 136-foot (41 m) stone structure built in 1907 by the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad in Landing, New Jersey, United States. Located 44.53 miles up the rail line from Hoboken Terminal, the bridge carries the two-lane Morris County Route 631 (Landing Road) over the Morristown Line and Montclair-Boonton Line railroad tracks maintained by New Jersey Transit, and sits several hundred feet north of NJT's Lake Hopatcong Station. By 2009, it was deteriorated and structurally deficient, and plans were announced for it to be replaced with a four-lane bridge by NJT and the New Jersey Department of Transportation.More than a decade passed before the work actually began, with demolition of several nearby buildings in June 2023.

Landing is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located within Roxbury Township, in Morris County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The community is located on the south shore of Lake Hopatcong near Hopatcong State Park. The area is served as United States Postal Service ZIP Code 07850. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population for ZIP Code Tabulation Area 07850 was 6,436.From the 1880s through the 1940s, it was a popular summer resort area, but by the 1970s it had evolved into a suburban community.

The Hercules Powder plant disaster was an explosion at an armaments factory owned by the Hercules Powder Company in the Kenvil section of Roxbury, New Jersey, on 12 September 1940. About 52 people were killed and 100 injured.The cause of the explosion remains unclear. Possible explanations include an industrial accident or sabotage carried out by the Irish Republican Army (IRA) or by a group of German Americans living in nearby Sussex County. Congressman Martin Dies, chair of the House Un-American Activities Committee at the time, believed that Nazi agents were responsible for the blast. After German immigrant Oscar C. Pfaus helped connect Nazi agents with the IRA in America, Abwehr agent Karl Franz Rekowski was sent to the U.S. where he arranged for the IRA to carry out sabotage attacks. Rekowski alleges the IRA carried out the attack on the plant.The 1940 explosion at the Hercules factory followed another in 1933 that killed six people; in 1989, a third explosion there shattered windows across the town.
