High Shoals is a city in Gaston County, North Carolina, United States, named for the high rocky shoal across the Catawba River. The population was 696 at the 2010 census.

Iron Station is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Lincoln County, North Carolina, United States. A primarily industrial town, Iron Station's population was 755 as of the 2010 census. It also serves as a bedroom community for the larger cities of Charlotte, Hickory, and Lincolnton.

Hardins is an unincorporated community in Gaston County, North Carolina, United States. It is located approximately 2.0 miles (3.2 km) south of the town of High Shoals.

WLKO (102.9 FM, "The Lake") is a commercial radio station licensed to Hickory, North Carolina, and serving the Charlotte metropolitan area. It airs an adult hits format that leans toward classic hits. For much of November and December, it switches to Christmas music. It is owned by iHeartMedia, with studios on Woodridge Center Drive, just off the Billy Graham Parkway, near Charlotte/Douglas International Airport. WLKO is a Class C1 station, with an effective radiated power (ERP) of 31,000 watts. The transmitter is on Omega Lane, off North Carolina Highway 27 in Iron Station. WLNK broadcasts using HD Radio.

WBTV (channel 3) is a television station in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States, affiliated with CBS and owned by Gray Television. The station's studios are located off Morehead Street, just west of Uptown Charlotte, and its transmitter is located in north-central Gaston County. In addition, WBTV's studios continue to house the operations of its former sister radio stations currently owned by Urban One: WBT-AM/FM and WLNK, as well as WFNZ, which was previously owned by CBS Radio prior to its acquisition by Beasley Broadcast Group in 2014, followed by Entercom (now known as Audacy) in late 2017 and then Urban One in 2020 under a local marketing agreement.

The station's transmitter is located near Dallas, North Carolina, along the Catawba River. WGTB-CD is owned by Victory Christian Center, a charismatic megachurch in Charlotte, which also owns a network of gospel music stations fronted by WOGR (1540 AM) in Charlotte. Together, they form the Word of God Broadcasting Network, and operate from studios on the campus of the church's middle school on Carrier Drive (near the I-85–Beatties Ford Road interchange) in north Charlotte.

Alexis is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Gaston County, North Carolina, United States. It is located approximately three miles north of Stanley. It was first listed as a CDP in the 2020 census with a population of 589. Alexis was incorporated in 1899. Alexis was formerly named Alex's Cross Roads, for an individual named Alexander who owned land in the area. The community is in Gaston County, but official residents of the community (by zip code) live in both Gaston and Lincoln counties. The zip code for Alexis is 28006.
