Zakopane

Tatra County (Polish: powiat tatrzański) is a unit of territorial administration and local government (powiat) in Lesser Poland Voivodeship, southern Poland, on the Slovak border. It came into being on January 1, 1999, as a result of the Polish local government reforms passed in 1998. Its administrative seat and only town is Zakopane, which lies 85 kilometres (53 mi) south of the regional capital Kraków. The county takes its name from the Tatra mountain range, which covers most of its territory. The county covers an area of 471.62 square kilometres (182.1 sq mi). As of 2006 its total population is 65,393, out of which the population of Zakopane is 27,486 and the rural population is 37,907. The mountainous southern part of the county (211 km2) makes up the Tatra National Park. This area, together with the Slovak Tatra National Park across the border, make up a UNESCO-designated biosphere reserve.

The Tatra Museum is a museum of the history, culture, nature and ethnography of the Polish Tatras; its main branch is located in Zakopane, Poland.

The Villa Atma (Polish Willa Atma) in Zakopane, Poland, is a historic chalet housing the Karol Szymanowski Museum, department of the National Museum in Kraków.

The Museum of Zakopane Style at Villa Koliba is a division of the Tatra Museum in Zakopane, and a museum of Zakopane style. The villa was built between 1892 and 1893 in Zakopane style based on a design by Stanisław Witkiewicz. It was the first building ever erected in Zakopane style. The Koliba Villa is a registered Polish monument since 1983. The name koliba originates from the same word in Polish Goral regional dialect meaning a shepherds' hut.

Zakopane railway station is a railway station in Zakopane (Lesser Poland), Poland and the terminus of PKP rail line 99. The station was opened in 1899 and electrified in 1975. It is also the highest situated staffed railway station in Poland at 835 metres above sea level. As of 2023, it is served by Koleje Śląskie (Silesian Voivodeship Railways), Polregio, and PKP Intercity (EIC, InterCity, and TLK services).

The Gubałówka Hill Funicular is located in Zakopane, Poland and ascends the Gubałówka mountain. It is operated by PKL, Polish Cable Lines or Polskie Koleje Linowe.

The 2001 Winter Universiade, the XX Winter Universiade, took place in Zakopane, Poland.

Gubałówka is a mountain in the Gubałówka Range (Polish: Pasmo Gubałowskie or Pogórze Gubałowskie), above the Polish town of Zakopane. The mountain is a popular tourist attraction, offering commanding views of the Tatras and Zakopane. In 1938 the Gubałówka Hill funicular connected Zakopane and the top of Gubałówka. The chair lift to Butorowy Wierch was opened in 1977. The Zakopane-Gubałówka transmitter (Polish: RTON Gubałówka) is located atop the mountain.

Wielka Krokiew (The Great Krokiew, in Polish krokiew means rafter) is the biggest ski jumping hill built on the slope of Krokiew mountain (1378 m) in Zakopane, Poland. It was opened in 1925. Since 1989 the hills bears the official name Wielka Krokiew im. Stanisława Marusarza. It is a regular venue in the FIS Ski jumping World Cup. The capacity of the ski jumping stadium is 40,001. The hill was featured in competitions at the 1939 and 1962 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships as well as the 2001 Universiade. In 1997, Pope John Paul II, while visiting his native country, celebrated a mass at the hill's stadium.Since 2001, due to the success of Polish jumper Adam Małysz, Wielka Krokiew has seen some of the largest audiences in World Cup ski jumping history. During the 2020 Ski Jumping World Cup – Teams, Japanese ski jumper Yukiya Satō (佐藤 幸椰) broke Dawid Kubacki's previous hill record at 143.5m with a massive 147m jump. It was also 4m meters better than the next best jump, at 143m which belonged to Ryōyū Kobayashi (小林 陵侑) from Japan.

Średnia Krokiew (The Normal Krokiew, in Polish krokiew means rafter) is a ski jumping normal hill in Zakopane, Poland.

Ząb [zɔmp] (until 1965 Zubsuche) is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Poronin, within Tatra County, Lesser Poland Voivodeship, in southern Poland. It lies approximately 5 kilometres (3 mi) west of Poronin, 5 km (3 mi) north of Zakopane, and 81 km (50 mi) south of the regional capital Kraków.It is Poland's highest village by elevation, at 1,013 metres (3,323 ft) above sea level.

Nosal (lit. 'The Nose') is a mountain in the Tatra Mountains of Poland, and is 1,206 metres AMSL at its highest. It is a popular tourist destination located near the Polish town of Zakopane, particularly for skiing and gliding.
