Houtdijken

Kamerik-Houtdijken is a former municipality in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It existed from 1818 to 1857, after which it merged with 's-Gravesloot, Kamerik-Mijzijde, and Teckop, to form the new municipality of Kamerik.During that time, it had about 620 inhabitants, in three polders: Kamerik-Teylingens, Groot-Houtdijk, and Klein-Houtdijk. This included the village of Oud-Kamerik, the hamlet Houtdijken, and half of the village of Kamerik.

Indijk is a former municipality in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It existed from 1817 to 1821, when it was joined to the municipality of Harmelen.

Breeveld is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Woerden, and lies about 4 km northeast of the city centre. The hamlet was first mentioned in 1217 as Bretevelt, and means "wide field". Breeveld has no place name signs.

Geestdorp is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Woerden, and lies about 2 km northeast of the city centre. The hamlet was first mentioned in 1272 as Ghersdorp, and means "settlement near grassland". It does not have place name signs. In the mid-19th century, Geestdorp was home to 140 people.

Gerverscop is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Woerden, and lies about 5 km northeast of Woerden. Until 1857, it was a separate municipality; it then was joined to the municipality of Harmelen.The former municipality consisted of the polders Gerverscop and Breudijk, north of Harmelen. In the 19th century, it had about 160 inhabitants, 120 of which in the polder Gerverscop.The hamlet was first mentioned between 1280 and 1287 as Gherverscoep, and means "concession of Gerver (person)". Gerverscop has no place name signs.

Teckop is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Woerden, and lies about 6 km northeast of Woerden. Teckop was a separate municipality from 1817 to 1857, when it was merged with Kamerik.Teckop is not a statistical entity, and the postal authorities have placed it under Kamerik.The hamlet was first mentioned between 1280 and 1287 as teykincoep, and means "concession of Teyke (person)". Teckop used to have place name sign, however they have been removed. In 1840, it was home to 161 people. Nowadays, it consists of about 40 houses.

Breudijk is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Woerden, and lies about 5 km northeast of Woerden. The statistical district "Breudijk", which covers the hamlet and the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 190.

Kamerik is a village in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Woerden and is situated about 3 km north of Woerden. In 2010 the village of Kamerik (including Kanis) had 3808 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 0.43 km² and contained 877 residences. The statistical district "Kamerik and Kanis", which includes two villages and the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 3050. This does not include the separate villages of Kamerik-Mijzijde and Oud-Kamerik. Until it was merged with Woerden in 1989 Kamerik was a separate municipality. Between 1818 and 1857 it was split into two municipalities: Kamerik-Mijzijde on the west side, and Kamerik-Houtdijken on the east.

The Harmelen train disaster, on 8 January 1962, was the worst railway accident in the history of the Netherlands. Harmelen, in the central Netherlands, is the location of a railway junction where a branch to Amsterdam leaves the Rotterdam to Utrecht line. It is common at high-speed junctions to avoid the use of diamond crossings wherever possible – instead a ladder crossing is employed where trains destined for the branch line cross over to the track normally employed for trains travelling in the opposite direction for a short distance before taking the branch line. The accident happened 18 months after the Woerden train accident, the derailment of a British furlough train nearby. Previously the Weesp train disaster of 1918 had been the worst railway disaster in the Netherlands.

Kanis is a village in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Woerden, and lies about 4 km north of Woerden. The hamlet was first mentioned between 1839 and 1859 as "de Verkeerde Kanis herbg", and was the name of an inn. Kanis means basket with fish. There is still a restaurant called De Kanis in the village, but it is not clear whether it is related to the original inn. In 1855, a Roman Catholic church was built in the village.

Woerden railway station (Dutch: Station Woerden) is the railway station of Woerden, Netherlands. The railway station was opened on 21 May 1855 on the Utrecht–Rotterdam railway. In 1911 a new building was built in Jugendstil, that still exists. During 1993-1996 the railway station was modernised, replacing the wooden roof and stairways by modern ones. During the closing decades of the twentieth century growing numbers of stopping trains at the station and a sustained rise in the level of motorised traffic led to increasing delays both for cyclists and for motorists at the level crossing directly adjacent to the station on its western side. The matter was finally addressed early in the twenty-first century with the construction of a short section of a road tunnel under the railway lines: this replaced the old level crossing. The station has two platforms and two entrances. On every entrance, there is bicycle parking.

Harmelen is a town in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Woerden, and lies about 6 km east of Woerden. In 2001, the town of Harmelen had 6557 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 1.11 km², and contained 2481 residences.Harmelen is on the railway line between Utrecht and Woerden; its train station was opened on 21 May 1855 and closed on 15 May 1936. In 1962, two passenger trains collided near Harmelen. The Harmelen train disaster, resulting in 93 fatalities, was the largest train accident in Dutch history. The village used to be a separate municipality, until it merged with Woerden in 2001. Before the merger the municipality of Harmelen had about 8000 inhabitants.
