Civic Center station (VTA)

The Phoenixonian Institute, also known as St. Philip’s Mission School for Negroes, is a former secondary school for African American students active from 1861 until the mid-1870s and located in the Japantown neighborhood of San Jose, California. It was the first African American residential secondary school in the state of California and the western United States, founded by Peter William Cassey.The school building no longer stands. The site of the former school has been listed as one of the City of San Jose Historic Resources Inventory (number 81).

Japantown (Japanese: 日本町; Nihonmachi), commonly known as J Town, is a historic cultural district of San Jose, California, north of Downtown San Jose. Historically a center for San Jose's Japanese American and Chinese American communities, San Jose's Japantown is one of only three Japantowns that still exist in the United States, alongside San Francisco's Japantown and Los Angeles's Little Tokyo.

The Guadalupe River Park is a city park in San Jose, CA. It is a 120-acre park on the banks of the Guadalupe River for about 2.6 miles in the downtown. It was opened in 2005 after the adjoining section of the river was lined with concrete for flood protection.The park contains a green adjacent to the SAP Center, tennis courts, a visitor center, and installations of public art. The Guadalupe River Trail runs through the park. The Guadalupe River Park was neglected after opening, leading to calls for revitalization to turn around a homelessness crisis. These calls have led to some proposals and actions to clean trash and engage unhoused in the area.One public art initiative in the park involves seating areas for San Jose's sister cities. In 2023, a 440 lb statue of Shivaji I that was part of an installation for the city of Pune was stolen from the park. It was quickly recovered.

On May 26, 2021, a mass shooting occurred at a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) rail yard in San Jose, California, United States. Ten people were killed during the shooting, including the gunman, identified as 57-year-old VTA employee Samuel James Cassidy, who died by suicide. It is the deadliest mass shooting in the history of the San Francisco Bay Area.As a result of the shooting, service throughout the VTA light rail system was suspended for months. The city announced and later passed a package of policy proposals intended to curb gun violence, including unprecedented liability insurance and compensation fee requirements for gun owners.

Japantown/Ayer is a light rail station operated by Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority. The station is located in San Jose, California on 1st Street just north of Empire Street. This station is served by the Blue and Green lines of the VTA Light Rail system.

Heinlenville (Chinese: 海因倫鎮里的; also called the Sixth Street Chinatown 六街唐人埠 and San Jose Chinatown 散那些唐人埠) was a Chinese-American ethnic enclave in San Jose, California. Established in 1887 and demolished in 1931, it was the last and longest-lasting of San Jose's five Chinatowns.

The Japanese American Museum of San Jose (JAMsj) is located at 535 N. Fifth Street in San Jose, in the heart of Japantown. The museum's mission is to collect, preserve, and share Japanese American art, history, and culture with an emphasis on the Greater San Francisco Bay Area.

The Hensley Historic District, also known as Northside Residential District, is a U.S. historic district and residential neighborhood in San Jose, California. The neighborhood is northeast of downtown and is roughly bounded by East Julian Street, North 1st Street, North 7th Street, and East Empire Street. It is listed as a California Historical Landmark since June 21, 1983; and is listed as one of the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) since June 21, 1983.

Market Street Depot was the primary intercity railway station in San Jose, California between 1883 and 1935. It was located at Market and Bassett Streets at the end of the former San Francisco and San Jose Railroad, a route which was later integrated into the Southern Pacific Railroad Coast Line.

Gish is a light rail station operated by Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority. The station is located in San Jose, California, United States in the center median of 1st Street near Gish Street. The station has a split platform. The northbound platform is located just north of Gish Street, while the southbound platform is located just south of it. This station is served by the Blue and Green lines of the VTA Light Rail system.

Washburn Preparatory School or Washburn College Preparatory School (1894–1911) was a private preparatory school that was located at 165 Devine Street at the corner of San Pedro Street in San Jose, California.

Luna Park is a neighborhood in San Jose, California. It is bounded by Old Oakland Road/13th Street, Berryessa Road/Highway 101 and North 17th Street.It is named after the Luna Park amusement park built by Audley Ingersoll's of Ingersoll's Amusement and financed by the San Jose Street Car Company as a way of bringing more customers to the area. Luna Park was located on San Jose's Oakland Road, now named North 13th Street and contained an amusement park, baseball stadium and public park from the early 1907 until 1921.It was later redeveloped into a city park and residential neighborhood that still bears the name Luna Park.
