Gedling and Carlton railway station was a former railway station built to serve the villages of Gedling and Carlton in Nottinghamshire.

Gedling is a local government district with borough status in Nottinghamshire, England, whose council is based in Arnold, north-east of Nottingham. The population at the time of the 2011 census was 113,543.It was formed on 1 April 1974 by merging the urban districts of Arnold and Carlton and part of the rural district of Basford. It is named after the village of Gedling. Other settlements include Burton Joyce, Calverton, Colwick and Ravenshead.

Carlton Town Football Club is a football club based in Gedling, Nottinghamshire, England. Founded in 1904 as Sneinton Football Club, its early years were marked by considerable local success, leading to the club being described by the Manchester Courier in 1909 as "the leading amateur football club in Nottingham". Its reputation declined for several decades afterwards, with the team participating in obscure Nottinghamshire divisions until the 1995–96 season saw the club join the nationwide league system. Carlton currently competes in the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands at the eighth tier of the English football pyramid. Carlton have played their home games at the Bill Stokeld Stadium since the early 1990s. It most recently won promotion in 2006–07 from the Premier Division of the Northern Counties East Football League, competing in the NCEL's Division One and two Central Midlands League divisions before that. Tournament records include reaching the third round of the FA Amateur Cup in 1907–08, 1910–11, 1919–20 and 1930–31; the third qualifying round of the FA Cup in 2012–13 and 2013–14; the first round of the FA Trophy in 2021–22; and the third round of the FA Vase in 2005–06. The club is nicknamed "The Millers" and its colours are primarily yellow and blue.

The population at the 2011 census of the ward was 6,817 and 111,787 for the district. Gedling is still a distinct settlement, having been recorded in the Domesday Book, although due to the growth of residential, commercial and industrial in the wider Gedling Borough, City of Nottingham, Borough of Broxtowe, Rushcliffe and Ashfield District. As well as the Amber Valley and Borough of Erewash in Derbyshire which have become quite urban around Nottingham. It can be difficult to separate its distinction from the town of Carlton which has become contiguous with it.

Netherfield is a town in the Borough of Gedling in the ceremonial county of Nottinghamshire. It is situated to the east of Nottingham's city boundary and is approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) between Colwick and Carlton in the NG4 postcode area, and near the River Trent. The appropriate Gedling ward was called 'Netherfield and Colwick' until boundary reorganisation in 2015, when it became 'Netherfield', with 'Colwick' becoming a separate ward.. At the time of the 2011 census, the population of this ward was 7,398.

Carlton railway station serves the suburb of Carlton, Nottinghamshire, England. The station is 3 miles (5 km) east of Nottingham on the Nottingham to Lincoln Line operated by East Midlands Railway.

The Mary Hardstaff Homes, are 10 almshouses on Arnold Lane in Gedling, Nottingham. These were built as Almshouses in 1936 for the widows and orphans of miners by the builders Greenwoods of Mansfield. The design by the architect Thomas Cecil Howitt won the RIBA Bronze Medal in 1936 from the Nottingham, Derby and Lincoln Architectural Society.

Adbolton is a village in the English county of Nottinghamshire on the south bank of the River Trent one mile west of Holme Pierrepont.Adbolton was listed in the Domesday book of 1086.

Colwick marshalling yard, also known as Colwick sidings, was a large railway marshalling yard in Netherfield, Nottingham designed for the concentration of coal traffic from the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Coalfield for transfer to other marshalling yards in London. It was built by the Great Northern Railway in the triangle formed by the Nottingham-Grantham line, and the Nottingham-Derby line, close to what would become Netherfield and Colwick station. It was built in stages from 1872 and was closed by British Railways in April 1970. The site has now been developed as the Victoria Retail Park.

Netherfield railway station serves the town of Netherfield in the Borough of Gedling in Nottinghamshire, England. It comprises a single island platform with two tracks, with only a single waiting shelter. Access is via a flight of steps down from Chaworth Road, which bridges the line at this point. The station is little-used in comparison with nearby Carlton railway station on the Nottingham to Lincoln Line, which lies barely 460 yards (420 m) away.

Due to the growth of residential, commercial and industrial in the wider Gedling Borough, City of Nottingham, Borough of Broxtowe, Rushcliffe and Ashfield District. As well as the Amber Valley and Borough of Erewash in Derbyshire which have become quite urban around Nottingham. Carlton and Gedling as well as Netherfield form a contiguous urban area.

Gedling is a constituency in Nottinghamshire created in 1983 represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2019 by Tom Randall of the Conservative Party. The seat (and its predecessor, Carlton) was a safely Conservative until the Labour Party's landslide victory in 1997, when it was won for Labour by Vernon Coaker. Labour held Gedling until 2019, when it was regained by the Conservative Party.
