Carlton le Willows Academy is an 11–18 mixed, secondary school and sixth form with academy status in Gedling, Nottinghamshire, England. It is part of the Greater Nottingham Education Trust. Recruiting its first pupils in 1953, on-site teaching was introduced in the following year and the school was officially opened in 1956. Consequently, the modern school speculates Carlton le Willows to have been founded as the first post-war grammar school in England. Its campus was split from 1962 when a separate secondary technical school, Carlton le Willows Technical Grammar School, was established. The schools unified in 1973 and converted to a single comprehensive school; two local secondary modern schools, both founded in the early 20th-century, were also implicated in the merger. Carlton le Willows was granted specialist Technology College status from 2002 until 2010, became a foundation school in 2007 and converted into an academy in 2011. It operates on a single, 32-acre (13 ha) campus and its teaching follows the National Curriculum. Pupils generally sit examinations for around eight General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) qualifications, or equivalent diplomas, in Year Eleven (aged 15–16). Pupils have a choice to study three or four GCE Advanced Levels (A Levels) if they are admitted into the sixth form, though more vocational courses remain available.

Gedling and Carlton railway station was a former railway station built to serve the villages of Gedling and Carlton in Nottinghamshire.

Colwick marshalling yard, also known as Colwick sidings, was a large railway marshalling yard in Netherfield, Nottingham designed for the concentration of coal traffic from the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Coalfield for transfer to other marshalling yards in London. It was built by the Great Northern Railway in the triangle formed by the Nottingham-Grantham line, and the Nottingham-Derby line, close to what would become Netherfield and Colwick station. It was built in stages from 1872 and was closed by British Railways in April 1970. The site has now been developed as the Victoria Retail Park.

Gedling is a constituency in Nottinghamshire created in 1983 represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2019 by Tom Randall of the Conservative Party. The seat (and its predecessor, Carlton) was a safely Conservative until the Labour Party's landslide victory in 1997, when it was won for Labour by Vernon Coaker. Labour held Gedling until 2019, when it was regained by the Conservative Party.

The population at the time of the 2011 census was 113,543.It was formed on 1 April 1974 by merging the urban districts of Arnold and Carlton and part of the rural district of Basford. It is named after the village of Gedling. Other settlements include Burton Joyce, Calverton, Colwick and Ravenshead.

Netherfield is a town in the Borough of Gedling in the ceremonial county of Nottinghamshire. It is situated to the east of Nottingham's city boundary and is approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) between Colwick and Carlton in the NG4 postcode area, and near the River Trent. The appropriate Gedling ward was called 'Netherfield and Colwick' until boundary reorganisation in 2015, when it became 'Netherfield', with 'Colwick' becoming a separate ward.. At the time of the 2011 census, the population of this ward was 7,398.

Gedling is a village in the Gedling district, in Nottinghamshire, England, four miles northeast of Nottingham city centre. The population at the 2011 census of the ward was 6,817 and 111,787 for the district. Gedling is still a distinct settlement, having been recorded in the Domesday Book, although due to the growth of residential, commercial and industrial in the wider Gedling Borough, City of Nottingham, Borough of Broxtowe, Rushcliffe and Ashfield District. As well as the Amber Valley and Borough of Erewash in Derbyshire which have become quite urban around Nottingham. It can be difficult to separate its distinction from the town of Carlton which has become contiguous with it.

Netherfield railway station serves the town of Netherfield in the Borough of Gedling in Nottinghamshire, England. It comprises a single island platform with two tracks, with only a single waiting shelter. Access is via a flight of steps down from Chaworth Road, which bridges the line at this point. The station is little-used in comparison with nearby Carlton railway station on the Nottingham to Lincoln Line, which lies barely 460 yards (420 m) away.

The Greenwood Academies Trust is a large multi-academy trust in England, centred around the Nottingham Academy, which was formerly the Greenwood Dale School. There are 34 academies within the trust, educating over 17,000 pupils. The trust's mission is "to enable every child within our academies to be the best they can be".

Rectory Junction Viaduct, also known as the Radcliffe Viaduct, crosses the River Trent between Netherfield and Radcliffe on Trent near Nottingham. It is a Grade II listed building.
