Skatval

Skatval Station (Norwegian: Skatval stasjon) is a railway station located in the village of Skatval in Stjørdal Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located along the Nordlandsbanen railway line. The station is served hourly by the Trøndelag Commuter Rail service to Steinkjer and Trondheim. The service is operated by SJ Norge. There is free parking at the station, but no ticket machine.

Skatval is a former municipality in the old Nord-Trøndelag county, Norway. The 94-square-kilometre (36 sq mi) municipality existed from 1902 until its dissolution in 1962. The municipality encompassed the Skatval peninsula in the northwestern part of what is now Stjørdal Municipality in Trøndelag county. The administrative centre was the village of Skatval where the Skatval Church is located. Other villages in the Skatval area include Auran, Kvithammer, and Steinvika. Prior to its dissolution in 1962, the 94.5-square-kilometre (36.5 sq mi) municipality was the 544th largest by area out of the 731 municipalities in Norway. Skatval Municipality was the 454th most populous municipality in Norway with a population of about 1,983. The municipality's population density was 21 inhabitants per square kilometre (54/sq mi) and its population had decreased by 3.8% over the previous 10-year period. Skatval is divided in several geographical parts listed here counterclockwise from north: Langstein, Nordbygda, Sørbygda, Midtbygda, and Vassbygda. The Skatval peninsula is an important farming area, belonging to the plain districts of Trøndelag. The cultural landscape is dominated in the east by mountainous area with the highest being Forbordsfjellet at 596 metres (1,955 ft) above sea level. The mountaintop is a regional landmark.

Alstad Station (Norwegian: Alstad holdeplass) was a railway station on the Nordland Line just north of the village of Skatval in Stjørdal Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. With the opening of the section of the Hell–Sunnan Line through Stjørdal on 29 October 1902, a passing loop was taken into use at Alstad. A station was built 50 meters (160 ft) north of the passing loop in 1934. The passing loop was removed in 1972 and the station remained in revenue service until 23 May 1993. It was officially closed on 1 September 1993.

Vold Station (Norwegian: Vold holdeplass) was a railway station on the Nordland Line in Stjørdal Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The station was located in Voll, just southeast of the village of Skatval. It opened in 1938. In 1959, the station was moved 100 meters (330 ft) southwards. The station was closed on 27 May 1990.

Skatval Church (Norwegian: Skatval kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Stjørdal Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the village of Skatval. It is the church for the Skatval parish which is part of the Stjørdal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design and a Swiss chalet style in 1901 using plans drawn up by the architect Johan Wæhre. The church seats about 440 people.

Steinvikholm Castle (Norwegian: Steinvikholm slott) is an island fortress on the Skatval peninsula in the present-day Stjørdal Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The castle was built over seven years, from 1525 to 1532, by Norway's last Roman Catholic Archbishop, Olav Engelbrektsson. Steinvikholm castle became a powerful fortification by the time it was built, and it is the largest construction raised in the Norwegian middle ages.

The siege of Steinvikholm was a siege of Steinvikholm Castle in Stjørdalen, Norway (in the Skatval area in the present day Stjørdal Municipality). The siege was between the forces of the Catholic Deacon Knud Pederson Skanke and noble Tord Roed. The siege started in April after the Archbishop of Norway Olav Engelbrektsson had fled the country. The protestant forces laid siege to the castle and did a naval blockade of the fjord. The defenders fired their canons at the besiegers day and night, and refused several request to surrender to the protestant forces. But the defenders surrendered on 17 May. The reason was that the defenders heard a rumour that the noble Truid Ulfstand was on his way to Trondheim from Denmark with a force of 1500 men. The defenders stipulated for there surrender that; non of the defenders where to be punished after the surrender, and be pardoned for there involvement in the rebellion. Knud Pederson Skanke was to keep all his possessions he had at the castle, and keep his position as deacon.

Fløan Church (Norwegian: Fløan kirke) was a medieval church that stood in the village of Fløan in the Skatval area of present-day Stjørdal Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The church was located about 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) northwest of the town of Stjørdalshalsen. Materials from Fløan Church are displayed at the Trøndelag Folkemuseum at Sverresborg in Trondheim.

Forbordsfjellet is a mountain in Stjørdal Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The 590-metre (1,940 ft) tall mountain lies directly to the north of Trondheim Airport, Værnes and the town of Stjørdalshalsen and about 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) northeast of the village of Skatval. There is a toll road to the summit from European route E6 near Skatval Church. Forbordsfjellet is also used for paragliding. IL Fram organizes a 4.8-kilometre (3.0 mi) long backhill race that starts at Skatval Church and has a finish at the top of the mountain. Many tourists and residents come to the top to look at the views of the lower Stjørdalen valley, the Åsenfjorden, and towards Trondheim. The name comes from the little farming village of Forbord, located west of the mountain. The name Forbord supposedly means "at the foot of the mountain". Thus, the name Forbordsfjellet can, oddly enough, be translated into "at the foot of the mountain-mountain". The solution to this logical problem may be that the hamlet at the foot of the mountain may have been named Forbord first, but when the locals forgot the name of the mountain, they simply called it Forbordsfjellet, meaning the mountain at Forbord. There are no other known names on the mountain. A popular destination for hiking is Svartkamhytta.

Kvithammer or Kvithammar is a village in Stjørdal Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the northwestern part of the municipality, about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) northwest of the town of Stjørdalshalsen and a short distance southeast of the village of Skatval. The 0.13-square-kilometre (32-acre) village had a population (2019) of 211 and a population density of 1,623 inhabitants per square kilometre (4,200/sq mi). Since 2019, the population and area data for this village area has not been separately tracked by Statistics Norway. Kvithammar is mainly known for the Bioforsk Grassland and Landscape Division which is an agricultural research station in the area. It is located on the Skatval peninsula, about 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) south of the Forbordsfjellet mountain.

Muruvika or Muruvik is a village in the municipality of Malvik in Trøndelag county, Norway. The village is located near the end of the Stjørdalsfjorden, an arm of the Trondheimsfjord. The village sits about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) north of the village of Hommelvik, the municipal centre. The European route E6 highway used to pass through the village, but the highway now goes through the Hell Tunnel just south of Muruvika. The Meråker Line railway also passes through the village.The 0.37-square-kilometre (91-acre) village has a population (2018) of 483 and a population density of 1,305 inhabitants per square kilometre (3,380/sq mi).

The Hell Tunnel (Norwegian: Helltunnelen) is a 3,928-metre (12,887 ft) long road tunnel in Trøndelag county, Norway. The tunnel is located along the shared section of the European route E6 and European route E14 motorways that runs through the mountain Gjevingåsen between the villages of Hommelvik in Malvik municipality and Hell in Stjørdal municipality. The tunnel was opened on 18 October 1995 and is the longest of the four tunnels between Trondheim and Stjørdal. It used to have a toll plaza on the southeast side of the tunnel, but now it is all automated, just as with several other tunnels in Norway. The tunnel was built as part of the Trondheim Toll Scheme.
