The Maribyrnong River is a perennial river of the Port Phillip catchment, located in the north–western suburbs of Melbourne, in the Australian state of Victoria.

The City of Port Melbourne was a local government area about 4 kilometres (2 mi) southwest of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia, on the south bank of the Yarra River. The city covered an area of 10.62 square kilometres (4.10 sq mi), and existed from 1860 until 1994. The council area covered the current boundaries of the suburb of Port Melbourne; the Yarra River to the west and north, Boundary Street to the northeast, Hobsons Bay to the south and Pickles Street to the east.

Port Melbourne is an inner-city suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 3 km (2 mi) south-west of the Melbourne central business district, located within the Cities of Melbourne and Port Phillip local government areas. Port Melbourne recorded a population of 17,633 at the 2021 census.The area to the north of the West Gate Freeway is located within the City of Melbourne, with The area to the south located within the City of Port Phillip. The suburb is bordered by the shores of Hobsons Bay and the lower reaches of the Yarra River. Port Melbourne covers a large area, which includes the distinct localities of Fishermans Bend, Garden City and Beacon Cove. Historically it was known as Sandridge and developed as the city's second port, linked to the nearby Melbourne CBD. The formerly industrial Port Melbourne has been subject to intense urban renewal over the past three decades. As a result, Port Melbourne is a diverse and historic area, featuring industrial and port areas along the Yarra, to open parklands, bayside beaches, exclusive apartments and Bay Street's restaurants and cafes. The suburb also forms a major transport link from east to west, home to one end of the West Gate Bridge.

HMAS Lonsdale is a former Royal Australian Navy (RAN) training base that was located at Beach Street, Port Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Originally named Cerberus III, the Naval Reserve Base was commissioned as HMAS Lonsdale on 1 August 1940 during the Second World War.Lonsdale was decommissioned in 1992, and the site now houses a luxury apartment complex known as HM@S Lonsdale, designed by Fender Katsalidis Architects.

CSR Yarraville is an operating sugar refinery at Whitehall Street, Yarraville, City of Maribyrnong, Victoria, Australia. It was built from 1872 to 1980s. It is also known as Colonial Sugar Refining Company Refinery of Yarraville. It was added to the Victorian Heritage Register on 21 October 1992.

Coode Canal is a reach of the lower Yarra River in Melbourne, the capital city of the Australian state of Victoria. The canal was excavated in 1886, as part of harbour improvements designed by Sir John Coode to improve access for ships to Melbourne's main river docks. It created Coode Island and caused the shallow, narrow and winding Fishermans Bend to be cut off along with other sections of the river including Humbug Reach and the original junction with the Maribyrnong River (or Saltwater River).Coode Canal and Victoria Dock received an Engineering Heritage Marker from Engineers Australia as part of its Engineering Heritage Recognition Program.

Westgate Park is a public park located in the industrial centre of Melbourne, Victoria. The park is 6 km (3.7 miles) from Melbourne's Central Business District and covers 40 hectares of land. The park is situated along the eastern banks of the Yarra River under the Westgate Bridge.

North Yarra Province was an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Council, the upper house of the Victorian Parliament. It was created in the redistribution of provinces in 1882 when the original provinces of Central and Eastern were abolished. The new North Yarra, North Eastern, North Central, Melbourne East, Melbourne North, Melbourne South and Melbourne West Provinces were then created.North Yarra consisted of the following divisions: Hotham North, Hotham South, Fitzroy North, St. Mark's, Fitzroy (East), Fitzroy (West), Darling Gardens, Glasshouse (North), Glasshouse (South), Abbotsford, Footscray, North Williamstown and South Williamstown.North Yarra Province was abolished in the redistribution of 1904 when new provinces including Melbourne North Province and Melbourne East Province were created.

Fishermans Bend (formerly Fishermen's Bend) is a precinct within the City of Port Phillip and the City of Melbourne. It is located on the south of the Yarra River in the suburb of Port Melbourne and opposite Coode Island, close to the Melbourne central business district. Fishermans Bend originally included the area now known as Garden City, which was renamed in 1929.Since 2012 the area has been designated as a major urban renewal area, with plans for 80,000 residents by 2050. The future framework for Fishermans Bend includes one major employment precinct and four primarily residential suburbs.

The West Gate Bridge is a steel, box girder, cable-stayed bridge in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, spanning the Yarra River just north of its mouth into Port Phillip. It carries the West Gate Freeway and is a vital link between the Melbourne central business district (CBD) and western suburbs, with the industrial suburbs in the west, and with the city of Geelong 80 kilometres (50 mi) to the south-west. It is part of one of the busiest road corridors in Australia. The high span bridge was built to allow large cargo ships to access the docks in the Yarra River. The main river span is 336 metres (1,102 ft) long, and 58 metres (190 ft) above the water. The total length of the bridge is 2,582.6 metres (8,473 ft). It is the fifth-longest in Australia, the longest being Melbourne's Bolte Bridge at 5 kilometres (3.1 mi). The West Gate Bridge is twice as long as the Sydney Harbour Bridge and is one of the highest road decks in Australia, higher than Sydney Harbour Bridge's 49 metres (161 ft). The bridge passes over Westgate Park, a large environmental and recreational reserve created during the bridge's construction. It carries up to 200,000 vehicles per day.

The Holden Fishermans Bend Plant[1] was a industrial park opened in 1936 in Fishermans Bend, Victoria, as Holden's headquarters. The new location was opened due to many issues with its previous City Road facility. The park was also intended to kickstart a Victorian leg of the General Motors subsidiaries Chevrolet and Vauxhall. In 1948, the plant facilitated the production of the first Holden-branded motor vehicle, the Holden 48-215. In 1956, due to an inability to meet demand, the assembly section of the plant was closed, succeeded by the new Dandenong plant. The Fishermans Bend plant also produced engines and driveline components for all domestic and most exported vehicles up until 2016, when the Australian LFX V6 was discontinued. In 1981, production started of the global Family II engine series - most of which were produced for export to other GM plants around the world. Since 2020, the area is no longer used by Holden for manufacturing or administration. In 2021, it was announced that the University of Melbourne planned to redevelop the area as the headquarters of its school of engineering, with plans to open in 2024.

The State Savings Bank building is a former branch office of the State Savings Bank of Victoria, and now a commercial building and private residence, located at 13 Ballarat Street in Yarraville, an inner-western suburb of Melbourne, in Victoria, Australia. Built in 1909 as a bank branch, the building has variously been used as a residence and retail use. The property was added to the Victorian Heritage Register on 22 February 1989; and was also added to non-statutory lists by the Victorian branch of the National Trust and the City of Maribyrnong on unknown dates.
