34 Montagu Square is the address of a London ground floor and basement flat once leased by Beatles member Ringo Starr during the mid-1960s. Its location is 1.3 miles (2.09 km) from the Abbey Road Studios, where The Beatles recorded. Many well-known people have lived at the address, including a British Member of Parliament, Richard-Hanbury Gurney, and the daughter of the Marquess of Sligo, Lady Emily Charlotte Browne. The square was named after Elizabeth Montagu, who was highly regarded by London society in the late 18th century. Paul McCartney recorded demo songs there, such as "I'm Looking Through You", and worked on various compositions, including "Eleanor Rigby". With the help of Ian Sommerville he converted the flat to a studio for Apple Corps' avant-garde Zapple label, recording William S. Burroughs for spoken-word Zapple albums. Jimi Hendrix and his manager, Chas Chandler, later lived there with their girlfriends. While living there, Hendrix composed "The Wind Cries Mary". For three months, John Lennon and Yoko Ono rented the flat, taking a photograph that would become the cover of their Two Virgins album. After the police raided the flat looking for drugs, the landlord of the property sought an injunction against Starr to prevent it from being used for anything untoward or illegal. Starr sold the lease in February 1969. In 2010, after a 10-year campaign by proposer, Peter Davies, English Heritage agreed to commemorate John Lennon's London address with a blue marker plaque at the site, making it an English Heritage "building of historical interest". On 23 October 2010, Yoko Ono unveiled the plaque with the inscription 'JOHN LENNON Musician and Songwriter 1940 - 1980 lived here in 1968'. 34 and the adjoining 33 Montagu Square have been listed Grade II on the National Heritage List for England since December 1987.

The Embassy of Switzerland (German: Schweizerische Botschaft im Vereinigten Königreich, French: Ambassade de Suisse au Royaume-Uni, Italian: Ambasciata di Svizzera nel Regno Unito) in London is the diplomatic mission of Switzerland in the United Kingdom. It consists of a large nineteenth-century building with a modern addition and is located halfway between Montagu Square and Bryanston Square. There is a commemorative stone at the entrance to the embassy marking its rebuilding in 1970.

York Street is a street in Marylebone in Central London. Located in the City of Westminster, it runs west from Baker Street in a straight line until it begins curving when it becomes Harcourt Street towards the Old Marylebone Road. It crosses a number of streets including Seymour Place, Upper Montagu Street and Gloucester Place. It was laid out in the eighteenth century as part of the grid-like pattern of the area, developed from the Portman Estate as affluent housing. It is named after Frederick, Duke of York, the son of George III and brother of George IV and William IV. A number of the buildings retain their original Georgian design. Amongst prominent residents of the street is the Victorian painter George Richmond and the writers Frances Milton Trollope and her sons Thomas and Anthony Trollope. The northern, rear side of the neoclassical St Mary's Church, designed by Robert Smirke and built from 1823 to 1824, faces onto York Street.

Montagu Square is a garden square in Marylebone, London. It is centred 550 metres north of Marble Arch and 440 m east of Edgware Road. Internally it spans 810 feet (250 m) by 150 feet (46 m) and is oriented on an axis of about NNW, an axis lasting for four blocks west, and ten east, as far as well into the next district, Fitzrovia. Save for No.s 27 to 29 the long sides are listed residential buildings in the mainstream, initial, protected category – Grade II. Montagu Place runs along the north end; George Street along the south; both have a crossroads on the western side with Upper Montagu/Montagu Streets, each in turn one block away from retail/service premises fronted streets.

Bryanston Square is an 800-by-200-foot (244 by 61 m) garden square in Marylebone, London. Terraced buildings surround it — often merged, converted or sub-divided, some of which remain residential. The southern end has the William Pitt Byrne memorial fountain. Next to both ends are cycle parking spaces. The most notable merger is the Swiss Embassy at the north-east end. The square's narrow ends are broken by broad approach streets of the same British Regency date. More recent style flanks the mid-west range of the square in the form of №s 31, 32 and 33 which are three times an ordinary range of its widths, meaning the numbering scheme today skips ten following numbers, destroyed to make room for these, to culminate with №s 44 to 50 and the highest-numbered buildings of Great Cumberland Place – its corner houses, №s 63 and 68. That street, this square and Wyndham Place run broad and straight for 750 metres without building projections between an 1821-built church and Marble Arch, moved to its permanent site in 1851. Traffic circulates clockwise around the square and numbering runs anti-clockwise.

St Mary's, Bryanston Square, is a Church of England church dedicated to the Virgin Mary on Wyndham Place, Bryanston Square, London. A related Church of England primary school which was founded next to it bears the same name.

Gloucester Place is a street in Marylebone in Central London. Located in the City of Westminster, it runs north from Portman Square across the Marylebone Road eventually merging into Park Road. It is parallel to Baker Street to the east and forms part of the A41 road from nearby Marble Arch. The Portman Estate was developed into grids of streets for affluent residential housing from the mid-eighteenth century. Gloucester Place was named after the Duke of Gloucester, younger brother of George III. The street has largely kept its original Georgian character. For some of the route the street is paralleled by Gloucester Place Mews to the west. Once part of the mews stabling for the houses, it now consists of independent dwellings. The 1935 art deco Dorset House apartment block was completed in 1935 at the junction with Marylebone Road. On the opposite corner of the junction is the neo classical Marylebone Town Hall the side of which faces onto Gloucester Place. Notable historic residents have included Mary Anne Clarke the mistress of Frederick, Duke of York and the American General Benedict Arnold. Novelist Wilkie Collins lived at 65 Gloucester Place where a blue plaque commemorates him. Another blue plaque appears on Dorset House where Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger's film production company was headquartered during the 1940s.
