Fingest

Skirmett is a hamlet in the parish of Hambleden, in Buckinghamshire, England. It lies in the Hambleden Valley in the Chiltern Hills, between the villages of Hambleden and Fingest.

Cobstone Mill was built around 1816 on Turville Hill in Buckinghamshire, England, and overlooks the village of Turville. It is a smock mill that replaced the original mill that had stood there since the 16th century. The machinery was previously used in another mill in the village of Lacey Green. It was a working mill grinding cereal until 1873. Later, squatters living in the mill caused a fire which damaged the centre post. After this time the mill went further into deterioration. In 1967, for the filming of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the mill was cosmetically restored. The cap was remoulded, and a new fantail and light wooden sails added. The mill and cottage were purchased in 1971 by Hayley Mills and her first husband Roy Boulting, and extensive conversions and remodelling of the interiors were completed as well as interior and exterior restoration and conversion of the mill. The mill has been used as a film location in other films and TV programmes including: Goodnight Mister Tom The New Avengers, "House of Cards" episode. Midsomer Murders, various episodes. Turville Hill is a 22.4-hectare (55-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Turville in Buckinghamshire. It is in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Cobstone Windmill, also known as Turville Windmill, is located at the top.This is a steeply sloping hill, which is a fine example of grazed chalk grassland in the southern Buckinghamshire Chilterns. There is a wide variety of plants, some of which provide food for the larvae of important butterflies on the site. Two butterflies are rare, the silver spotted skipper and the Adonis blue. Another rare invertebrate is the orange clearwing moth.There are footpaths across the hill from Turville, but the windmill is private property.

Cadmore, also known as Cadmore End, is a village in the civil parish of Lane End in the English county of Buckinghamshire. Historically Cadmore End was in two parishes and two counties. Part was a detached part of the parish of Lewknor in Oxfordshire, part of a division of the parish known as Lewknor Uphill consisting of three detached parts. Part of Cadmore End was a manor in the parish of Fingest in Buckinghamshire. In 1852 it became the separate ecclesiastical parish of Cadmore End, and in 1896 the Oxfordshire part of the parish was transferred to Buckinghamshire. The parish church of St Mary le Moor was built in 1851 and is a Grade II listed building. It replaced the mediaeval chapel with the same dedication at Ackhampstead.

Turville is a village and civil parish in Buckinghamshire, England. It is in the Chiltern Hills, 5 miles (8.0 km) west of High Wycombe, 6 miles (9.7 km) east-southeast of Watlington, 7 miles (11 km) north of Henley-on-Thames and 2 miles (3 km) from the Oxfordshire border. The name is Anglo-Saxon in origin and means 'dry field'. It was recorded in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle in 796 as Thyrefeld. The manor of Turville once belonged to the abbey at St Albans, but was seized by the Crown in the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1547. The manor house has since been rebuilt as Turville Park, and was held by the Hoare Nairne family for most of the 20th century. The present incumbent of the manor is Lord Sainsbury. Turville was home to Ellen Sadler, who fell asleep in 1871, aged eleven, and purportedly did not wake for nine years, becoming known as the "Sleeping Girl of Turville". The case attracted international attention from newspapers, medical professionals and the public. Rumours persist in the region that Sadler was visited by royalty for a "laying on of hands". The local pub is the Bull and Butcher. Turville Hill is a Site of Special Scientific Importance, and it includes Cobstone Windmill.

Fayland Chalk Bank is a 0.6-hectare (1.5-acre) Site of Special Scientific Interest in Parmoor, south of Lane End in Buckinghamshire. It is in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.The site is chalk grassland which has a diverse flora. The main grasses are red fescue, quaking grass and yellow oat grass. Orchids include the common spotted and pyramidal, and the profusion of chalk flowers and its south facing location make the site important for bees, grasshoppers and butterflies.The site is on private land with no public access.

Fayland House is a house in Buckinghamshire, England, in the Chiltern Hills between the villages of Skirmett and Hambleden. It was designed by David Chipperfield Architects. Fayland House is situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Parmoor is a hamlet to the south of Frieth in the parish of Hambleden, in Buckinghamshire, England. It has a Site of Special Scientific Interest, Fayland Chalk Bank. In the 1870s, Parmoor House was the home of Henry Cripps, Q.C.. His son Charles Cripps, who inherited it in 1899, was ennobled in 1914 and took the title Baron Parmoor of Frieth. Between 1941 and 1946, the exiled King Zog of Albania lived at Parmoor House.

Bolter End is a hamlet 5 mi (8.0 km) to the west of High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, England. Bolter End lies on the B482 road that connects Stokenchurch and Marlow between Cadmore End and Lane End and where it is crossed by the Piddington to Fingest road. Bolter End is part of Lane End (Where the population was included) civil parish and is within Wycombe district. Bolter End Sand Pit is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Frieth is a village in the parish of Hambleden, in Buckinghamshire, England. It lies on the top of "Frieth Hill", which is part of the chalk escarpments of the Chiltern Hills. Frieth lies at a height of around 550 feet (170 m), on the edge of a broad and deep winterbourne chalk valley in which are located the older settlements of the parish and adjacent parishes – Hambleden, Skirmett, Turville, and Fingest. Because of the shortage of surface water and the relatively poor soils – heavy clay and flint overlaying the permeable chalk – Frieth did not develop into a village until well into Victorian times. However, there are a number of ancient properties and Frieth has all the symbols of a traditional English village. As well as the church, it has a village hall, a village green, two rural pubs, a village society, fine open hilly countryside, and a small but thriving primary school. The village shop and dairy has closed.

Frieth Meadows is a 2.5-hectare (6.2-acre) Site of Special Scientific Interest in Frieth in Buckinghamshire. It is in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.The site consists of traditionally managed and unimproved meadows on neutral to acid soils. Plants include quaking grass, green-winged orchid, lousewort and devil's bit scabious. Hedgerows provide shelter for small mammals and birds, and both the grassland and hedges have a wide range of invertebrates.There is no public access to the site but it can be viewed from Shogmoor Lane.
