Gothenburg Municipality (Göteborgs kommun or Göteborgs stad) is a municipality in Västra Götaland County in western Sweden. Its seat is located in the city of Gothenburg. When the first Swedish local government acts were implemented in 1863 the City of Gothenburg, founded and chartered in 1621, became a city municipality with an elected city council (stadsfullmäktige). Its territory has since then been added through amalgamations in 1868, 1906, 1922, 1931, 1945, 1948, 1967 and 1974. The local government reform of 1971 made the city a unitary municipality, like all others in the country. The municipality prefers, however, to style itself Göteborgs stad (City of Göteborg), whenever legally possible. In March 2018 it was reported that the municipality and municipality-owned companies had 236 employees working with public relations (Swedish: kommunikation), more than Stockholm, to a cost of 400 000 SEK daily or 151 million SEK annually.

Carl Johan Church (Swedish: Carl Johans kyrka) is a Church of Sweden parish church on Sagberget, in Gothenburg. The church, designed by Fredrik Blom, is named after King Charles XIV John (Karl XIV Johan), who a year before the opening ceremony in 1826 was on a visit to the nearby porter brewery at Klippan. The parish serves Kungsladugård, Nya Varvet, Sandarna and large parts of Majorna.

Backa Theatre (Swedish: Backa Teater) is a youth theater located in Gothenburg, Sweden. It focuses on producing theater for children and their families. The theater was founded in 1978 by director Eva Bergman and actor Ulf Dohlsten as part of Gothenburg City Theatre. It is now led by playwright, director Carl Mattias Andersson, who himself has background as an actor at Backa Theatre. The company has had the privilege to set up newly written plays, for example In a dark and northern place which was written by Mattias Andersson. The theatre moved into new premises on Gothenburg's northern riverbank during autumn 2007.

Masthugget Church (Swedish: Masthuggskyrkan) in Gothenburg, Sweden, was built in 1914. Its position on a high hill (Masthugget) close to the city and near the Göta älv makes it a striking sight – the church tower is 60 m (200 ft) high in itself. The church represents the National Romantic style in Nordic architecture and was designed by Sigfrid Ericson. The church, which has become one of the symbols of Gothenburg, is a popular tourist attraction.

Lindholmen (literally "The Linden Tree Island") is a former island in the Göta Älv river, now part of the larger island of Hisingen. Lindholmen was not attached to Hisingen until 1864, or perhaps even later, and the western part of the channel separating the two islands is preserved in the form of the inlet Sannegårdshamnen, which now functions as a marina.In the Middle Ages, Lindholmen was the site of Lindholmen Castle, which was briefly an important royal residence during the reign of Magnus IV of Sweden. Later, in the nineteenth century, the Lindholmen shipyard was located in the area.

Majorna (pronunciation) is a residential area in Gothenburg, Sweden. It is a part of the borough Majorna-Linné. It is located west of the city just outside the city centre, with Göta älv in the north, Masthugget and Slottsskogen in the east, Högsbo in the south and Älvsborg in the west.

The Chalmers Lindholmen University College or Chalmers Lindholmen was a university college, and an affiliate of Chalmers University of Technology, located in Gothenburg, Sweden. The campus is located at Lindholmen on the island Hisingen. As of 2005, Chalmers Lindholmen no longer exists as a separate organisation. Campus Lindholmen is now one of Chalmers' two campuses.

Lindholmen Science Park is a science park dedicated to research and development in mobile communication, intelligent vehicles and transports systems, and modern media industry, located in Lindholmen Gothenburg, Sweden. Chalmers University of Technology, the University of Gothenburg, and the IT University of Göteborg collaborate with high tech industries and the local community in different development projects. Currently 250 companies with 24,000 employees are active at Lindholmen, the biggest companies are Volvo Cars, Volvo Technology, Ericsson, IBM, Semcon, and SVT. Campus Lindholmen has 10,000 university students, scientists, and teachers. Several gymnasiums are also located in the vicinity. The main operators of Lindholmen Science Park are Gothenburg Municipality, Chalmers University of Technology, the University of Gothenburg, Volvo Group, Ericsson, Volvo Cars, Business Region Göteborg, TeliaSonera, Saab, and the Swedish Road Administration.

Majorna (pronunciation) was until 2011 one of the 21 boroughs of Gothenburg Municipality. Since 2011 it is joined with the former borough of Linnéstaden and they do together form the new borough of "Majorna-Linné". It was composed of four districts: Kungsladugård Majorna Sanna Stigberget

Karlatornet is a skyscraper under construction by Serneke in Lindholmen in Gothenburg, Sweden. When finished, it will be 246 meters high, with 74 floors above ground. The building's architect firm is Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, and it is being built by Serneke Group AB. It is planned to be finished in 2024. When completed, it will reach 246 meters tall (804 ft), and will be the tallest building in the Nordic countries. On 22 September 2022, the tower reached this milestone at 193 meters, officially surpassing Turning Torso in Malmö.Karlatornet is one out of 9 buildings that will be parts of the Karlastaden complex. Other buildings are: Cassiopeja, 147 m (482 ft) 43 floors Auriga, 125 m (410 ft) 36 floors Virgo, 27 floors Capella, 17 floors Lynx, 17 floors Aries, 12 floors Callisto, 7 floors

Eriksberg is an area on Hisingen in Gothenburg where Eriksbergs Mekaniska Verkstads AB had their shipyard until bankruptcy in 1979. For over a century the area was dominated by shipbuilding but a crisis in the 1970s destroyed the industry. Since the collapse of the shipyards, the area has been rebuilt into a modern neighbourhood. The former machinery buildings have been renovated into a hotel with conference facilities. An 84-metre high gantry crane – the Eriksberg crane – stands as a remnant of the area's shipbuilding past. A large grass area, now used for apartment buildings, was used for concerts from 1987 to 1990 (when Ullevi was closed for such concerts). Michael Jackson performed in front of 106,000 people for 2 sold-out shows during his Bad World Tour in June 1988. U2 and David Bowie performed in 1987, and the Rolling Stones and Madonna in 1990. In 2014, the progressive metal band Evergrey from Gothenburg filmed a music video for the song "King Of Errors" from their album Hymns for the Broken atop the Eriksberg gantry crane.

Slottsskogen (Swedish: [ˈslɔ̂tːˌskuːɡɛn], "Castle Forest") is a 137-hectare park located in central Gothenburg, Sweden.
