Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts is located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The center is the first complex of its kind in the United States to use science as an entry to the arts. Whitaker Center exhibits science, the performing arts, and a digital cinema under one roof. The center encompasses a total of 130,000 square feet (12,000 m2), including the three main components, plus STAGE TWO, Discovery Lab classrooms, multi-purpose rooms, the AMP Grand Lobby and the Kunkel Gallery.

Colonial Theatre, also known as the Lochiel Hotel, is a historic theater and commercial building located at Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. The building consists of a five-story, brick and frame front section and a rear brick and frame auditorium. The original Colonial Theatre was built about 1836, as a hotel in the Greek Revival style and featured a four columned portico on the Market Street entrance. It was subsequently modified in form and use a number of times. In the 1870s, a mansard roof was added. The rear auditorium was added in 1912, when the building was converted from a hotel to hotel and movie / vaudeville theater. The lobby was remodeled in the 1930s / 1940s in an Art Deco style; the auditorium has Italian Renaissance style detailing. The theater and hotel closed in 1976, and the building used for offices and shops.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 9, 1982.

Keystone Building is a historic commercial building located at Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1875 as the State Printing Office. It is a six-story office building, plus basement, 7 bays wide and 12 bays deep. It is faced in granite on the first floor, with brick above. It was remodeled in 1917, with the addition of a structural steel frame and 12-inch reinforced floors.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.This building is not to be confused with the Commonwealth Keystone Building, a nearby State Government office building completed in 2000.

SoMa, or South of Market Street, is a neighborhood in Downtown Harrisburg, Pennsylvania around South Third Street, bounded by Market to the north, 3rd to the west, Chestnut to the south, and 4th to the east. The name "SoMa" derives from the area being "South of Market Street", coined by Harristown Enterprises in 2007 to rebrand the South Third Street area for new development relating to international business and the arts. Eight restored historic buildings became 20 apartments branded as "SoMa on Third". The area is a popular housing area for students attending the nearby Harrisburg University. The area contains popular retail and bar & restaurant destinations and hosts frequent block parties in which they participate with other incoming vendors and entertainment.

Downtown Harrisburg is the central core neighborhood, business and government center which surrounds the focal point of Market Square, and serves as the regional center for the greater metropolitan area of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, United States. Harrisburg's downtown Center City comprises the original 80-acre (320,000 m2) borough laid out in a grid pattern by John Harris in 1785. East–west streets are named and north–south streets are numbered. Market Street, running east–west, is the dividing point between north and south street designations.Harrisburg's Central Business District includes the Pennsylvania State Capitol Complex and other state government offices, the Dauphin County Courthouse and other county government offices, City of Harrisburg offices, Pennsylvania State Museum, federal government offices, and other, non-government related commercial retail and office development. Some residential development, both in apartment high-rises and in the upper floors of mixed commercial/residential use buildings, is also located in the downtown area. Downtown is bordered in the northwest by the mixed commercial/residential use Capitol District, in the west by the Susquehanna River, in the southwest by the largely residential Shipoke neighborhood, in the south by Interstate 83, in the east by Amtrak and Norfolk Southern Railway lines, and in the north by Midtown Harrisburg, a mixed-use commercial and residential neighborhood. Forster Street is usually considered the boundary between Downtown and Midtown Harrisburg. City Island, located in the middle of the Susquehanna River directly west of downtown, is typically considered part of Downtown Harrisburg.

Strawberry Square is a mixed-use retail and commercial complex located in downtown Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. It is owned and managed by the Harristown Development Corporation (HDC), a non-profit organization.

Old Downtown Harrisburg Commercial Historic District is a national historic district located at Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. The district includes 50 contributing buildings in the old central business district of Harrisburg and dating from the late-19th and early-20th centuries. Notable buildings include the Daily and Weekly Telegraph Building (1873-1874), City Bank Building (c. 1872), F.W. Woolworth (1939), Rothert's Furniture Store (1906), Bowman's Department Store (1907, 1910), Pomeroy's Department Store (c. 1890, c. 1940), and Doutrich's Clothing Store. Located in the district and listed separately are the Colonial Theatre, Keystone Building, Kunkel Building, and the William Seel Building. The Telegraph Building was delisted after having been demolished. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, with a boundary increase in 1984.

Harrisburg's Market Square is located in Downtown Harrisburg at the intersection of 2nd and Market Streets. The square was created in 1785. Since then, it has traditionally been the navigational center of the city, and since the 1980s has undergone a revival with several new commercial, residential and retail spaces either planned or built. Market Square serves as a hub for Capital Area Transit (CAT) buses. It is one block from Riverfront Park and the Market Street Bridge, which crosses over the Susquehanna River.

William Seel Building is a historic commercial building located at Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1912–1913, and is a narrow four-story, four bay wide office building built of brownstone and brick. It features two elegant arches at the first floor and an overhanging cornice.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Harrisburg Historic District is a national historic district located at Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. The district includes 340 contributing buildings and 1 contributing site in a 19th-century residential area of Harrisburg. It contains the original core of the city. Located in the district is Harris Park, which unifies the district. Notable buildings include the Y.M.C.A. (1932), William Maclay Mansion (1792), Grace Methodist Church (1871), St. Stephen's Episcopal Cathedral (1826), St. Michael's Lutheran Church (1906), Cathedral of Saint Patrick (1907) and the Unit Row Houses. The John Harris Mansion is located in the district and listed separately.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

Harrisburg University of Science & Technology, commonly referred to as Harrisburg University (HU), is a private STEM-focused university in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, with an additional location in Philadelphia. Founded in 2001 as Harrisburg Polytechnic Institute, it offers STEM-focused degree and certificate programs. Harrisburg University places special emphasis on education in fields related to engineering, applied science and technology and offers 15 bachelor's degrees, 13 master's degrees, and 3 doctoral degrees and certificate programs. The university is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

The Capital Area School for the Arts (CASA) is a 9th to 12th grade, public charter school located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, USA. The School began as an arts magnet school, which was founded in 2001 as a partnership between the Capital Area Intermediate Unit and Open Stage of Harrisburg (a regional professional theater group). After first moving through several sites in downtown Harrisburg, the school now resides in its permanent location in the first and third floor of Strawberry Square. Capital Area School for the Arts Charter School utilizes a 21st-century, hybrid model of teaching and learning. The curriculum is designed to meet all of the Pennsylvania Core State Standards. In 2013, the School received charter status and converted to an intensive, all-day academic and arts high school. CASA Charter School was approved in May 2013 for five years.Students apply to attend the school, with an audition required. If more applications are made than the slots available, the school is required by law to conduct a lottery for admission. Students from public schools in Dauphin County, Cumberland County and Perry County have attended the school in the past. CASA is located in the downtown area of the City of Harrisburg. The students have the opportunity to use the city as the "classroom", including the numerous resources offered (such as the nearby Susquehanna Art Museum and the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts. Students must attend 1 of 2 sessions daily and choose one of six artistic areas such as; visual arts, film, music, dance, film and video or theater. Beginning in the 2010-2011 school year, a creative writing discipline was added for PM classes. Morning classes are studio-based while afternoon classes focus on collaborative interdisciplinary work. The culmination of the afternoon classes' work is a one-night student-produced performance at the nearby Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts.
