Maaria-Paattinen (Finnish; S:t Marie-Patis in Swedish) is a ward (suuralue, storområde) of Turku, Finland, also known as Ward 9. The ward includes almost half of the city's land area, and is its most sparsely populated district. It is located to the north of the city, and named after Maaria and Paattinen, the two former municipalities from which it was formed after both of them were annexed into Turku. Maaria-Paattinen is the second smallest ward of Turku by population, with only 8,756 inhabitants (as of 2004). The population increases by 0.95% annually. 22.66% of the ward's population are under 15 years old, while 9.92% are over 65. The ward's linguistic makeup is 95.76% Finnish, 1.29% Swedish, and 2.95% other.

Maaria (S:t Marie in Swedish) is a former municipality of Finland in what is now the northern part of the city of Turku. The area has been inhabited since the Iron Age, and it became an important village in the 15th century with the construction of a church dedicated to the Virgin Mary (hence the district's name). Also Koroinen, with the former residence of the Bishop of Finland is in the area. The municipality of Maaria was founded in 1868, and it included the northern parts of modern Turku south of Paattinen, some enclaves to the north of Paattinen, and the island of Hirvensalo to the south of Turku. In 1944, Hirvensalo, Raunistula and some other parts of the municipality were annexed into Turku, and the rest of the municipality followed suit in 1967. Since then, it has seen considerable growth. The Maaria Reservoir, which serves as an alternative source of tap water for Turku, was constructed in the area in 1982. The area that used to be central Maaria is currently divided into the districts of Jäkärlä, Saramäki, Turku Airport and Yli-Maaria. The former municipality's name is preserved in administrative units such as the parish of Maaria, the district of Yli-Maaria and the ward of Maaria-Paattinen, which includes the five northern districts of Turku.

Paattinen (Finnish: [ˈpɑːtːinen]; Swedish: Patis) is a village in south-west Finland and a district of the city of Turku. It is located to the north of the city, and is the largest of the city's districts by area. It borders the neighbouring municipalities of Vahto, Nousiainen, Mynämäki, Pöytyä, Aura and Lieto. It is rather sparsely populated, and has a population of only 2,430 (as of 2004) despite being much larger than any other of the city's districts. Paattinen has an annual population growth rate of 0.99%. 20.21% of the district's population are under 15 years old, while 15.31% are over 65. The district's linguistic makeup is 98.40% Finnish, 1.03% Swedish, and 0.58% other, making Paattinen one of the most homogeneous districts in Turku. Paattinen is also a former municipality of Finland. It is the most recent municipality to be annexed to Turku, in 1973.

Yli-Maaria (Finnish; Övre S:t Marie in Swedish) is a district in the Maaria-Paattinen ward of the city of Turku, in Finland. It is located to the north of the city, and is a very sparsely populated area. The district was previously part of the municipality of Maaria, which was annexed into Turku in 1967. The current (as of 2004) population of Yli-Maaria is 2,209, and it is increasing at an annual rate of 3.71%. 32.10% of the district's population are under 15 years old, while 4.89% are over 65. The district's linguistic makeup is 97.24% Finnish, 1.49% Swedish, and 1.27% other.

Old Castle of Lieto (Finnish: Liedon Vanhalinna) is a site of a hillfort in Lieto, Finland. It rises 55 meters above the sea level.The original name of the castle is not known. According to excavations, the castle has been in use three times during its history, in the Late Bronze Age (1100–500 BCE) and in Middle Iron Age (500–700 CE). The third phase of the site between years 1000-1370 can be divided into two. According to the excavations the years 1000–1150 are marked with German money and prehistoric artefacts and the years 1200–1370 with Scandinavian bracteates and medieval artefacts. The hillfort was used by the local Finns proper population until 1170, when it was conquered most likely by the Swedes who possibly used it as a stronghold against Tavastians. The steep hillside supported by fortifications on top of the hill provided a good defensive position. Constructions on the hillfort were mostly made of wood. In the latest phase bricks were used as well. Remains of 11 buildings have been found from the top of the hillfort. Earliest defensive structures have been dated to 500 BCE and an outer bailey was in use in the Middle Ages. Total of 14 arrowheads and 150 crossbow bolt heads have been found from the area as well as several spear heads which the oldest has been dated to 6th century. Also several traces of fire have been found from the hillfort. Earliest traces of fire have been dated to Migration Period and the latest to 1360s.The castle was located between two ancient transport routes: Aura river and Hämeen härkätie leading to central Tavastia. Its importance decreased when the Turku castle was finished in beginning of the 14th century. Hence the name Old Castle of Lieto.

Liên Tâm Monastery (previously Lotus Heart Temple) is a Buddhist monastery located in Moisio, Turku. It is the first Buddhist monastery inaugurated in Finland. The monastery is administered by the Vietnamese Buddhist Association of Finland. The association is one of the biggest Buddhist associations in Finland and follows Mahayana. Moreover, Pure Land Buddhism and Zen are practiced in the monastery.In 2010 during its construction the monastery fell victim to an attempted arson.

Saramäki (Finnish; Starrbacka in Swedish) is a district in the Maaria-Paattinen ward of the city of Turku, in Finland. It is located to the north of the city, and is a very sparsely populated area. The current (as of 2004) population of Saramäki is 530, and it is decreasing at an annual rate of 1.70%. 16.60% of the district's population are under 15 years old, while 15.09% are over 65. The district's linguistic makeup is 95.28% Finnish, 0.75% Swedish, and 3.96% other.

Oriketo is a district in the Koroinen ward of the city of Turku, in Finland. It is located to the north of the densely built suburb of Halinen, and consists mostly of industrial area. Turku's waste processing plant is located in Oriketo, despite the staunch opposition of the residents of Räntämäki, another residential suburb located nearby. The current (as of 2004) population of Oriketo is 120, and it is increasing at an annual rate of 5.83%. 11.67% of the district's population are under 15 years old, while 9.17% are over 65. The district's linguistic makeup is 89.17% Finnish, 0.83% Swedish, and 10.00% other.

Ravattula Church (also the Ristimäki Church) was a Medieval church in the village of Ravattula in Kaarina, Finland. It is the oldest known church site in Finland, dating back to the late 12th century–early 13th century. The well-preserved foundations of a wooden church were found on the Ristimäki hill in 2013.The Ravattula Church was a wooden building approximately the size of 6×10 meters. It consisted of two rooms and a smaller narrow choir. The church was built with a horizontal timbering technique and the floor was covered with planks. The only remains today are the foundations made of stone.The church was used for only few decades until the 1230s or 1240s. It was demolished and the wooden material was most likely used elsewhere. Ravattula Church is surrounded by a cemetery which may date back to the late Iron Age. The site is located by the river Aurajoki, some 4 kilometers upstream the present Turku Cathedral which was completed in 1300.

Zoolandia is a zoo located Lieto, Finland, about a 20-minute drive north of Turku. The zoo is home to about 160 animals representing 50 species.

Southwest Finland or Finland Proper (Finnish: Varsinais-Suomi; Swedish: Egentliga Finland; Latin: Ducatus Finlandiae Meridionalis) is a historical province in southwestern Finland, administered by its historic capital of Turku (Swedish: Åbo). It borders Satakunta, Tavastia, and Uusimaa. It is also bounded by the Baltic sea facing Åland. There was also a modern region by the name Finland Proper. Southwest Finnish dialects were spoken in Southwest Finland.

Halinen (Finnish; Hallis in Swedish) is a district and a suburb of the city of Turku, Finland. It is located in the north-eastern part of the city, bordering the Littoinen district in Kaarina. It is rather densely populated, having a population of 3,501 (as of 2004), with an annual growth rate of 0.34%. 23.11% of the district's population are under 15 years old, while only 3.43% are over 65, making the district one of the youngest in Turku. The district's linguistic makeup is 50% Finnish, 4.51% Swedish, and 45% other. This reflects the fact that Halinen is one of the areas with the highest proportion of immigrants in the city, as well as one with a high student population.
