WHGB (1400 AM) is a commercial radio station in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The station is owned by Cumulus Media and broadcasts a sports radio format. Most programming is supplied by the CBS Sports Radio Network, in which parent company Cumulus has a financial interest. Programming is also heard on two FM translators, W237DE at 95.3 MHz and W243BR at 96.5 MHz.

Shipoke (SHY-poke) is a neighborhood in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Shipoke is delineated by I-83 to the south, Washington Street to the north, Second Street to the east, and the Susquehanna River to the west. It is Harrisburg Ward number one. Compared to the area of Harrisburg's other neighborhoods, Shipoke is small.

The John Harris Bridge is a steel girder multilane highway bridge that carries Interstate 83 and the Capital Beltway across the Susquehanna River at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, connecting the East and West Shores of metropolitan Harrisburg. It is primarily used by commuters and local services, including the extensive local trucking industry, and also carries cross-river traffic to or from the counties of the lower Susquehanna valley. The bridge was named in honor of John Harris, Sr, an early 18th century trader and ferry operator who was among the earliest Europeans to settle in the area, and whose son laid out the city he named after his father. It is also known locally as the South Bridge, in reference to the older Walnut Street, Market Street, and Harvey Taylor bridges upstream, which were the primary local automobile crossings at the time of its construction. A product of the post-World War II growth of the Harrisburg suburbs, the bridge officially opened on January 22, 1960, as part of the Harrisburg Expressway. On the east shore, Central Iron and Steel and parts of the Shipoke neighborhood, both dating from the 19th century, were demolished to accommodate the bridge and its exit ramps into the downtown. The bridge was widened to six lanes in 1982. In 1997, the Expressway and bridge were designated as part of the Capital Beltway which loops the metropolitan area. In 2015, as part of a nearby reconstruction project, a fourth northbound lane was opened, for a total of seven traffic lanes.In 2020, the John Harris was one of nine bridges selected by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) for end-of-life replacement under its Pathways Major Bridge Public-Private Partnership (P3) Initiative. Because P3 costs were to be paid in part by tolling, the Dauphin and Cumberland County governments, state legislators, and business groups came out against the P3 Initiative or making the John Harris a toll bridge. Lawsuits were filed against PennDOT, and in June 2022, Pennsylvania’s Commonwealth Court permanently blocked the P3 Initiative. In July 2022 the state enacted Act 84, rescinding the bridge-tolling plan.

The Dock Street Dam is a low-head dam that crosses the Susquehanna River between the Shipoke neighborhood of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on the east shore and Lemoyne on the west shore. It is constructed of hollow reinforced concrete buttress dam and was built to create recreational depth as a 3-mile lake, provide floor control, prevent mosquitos, and minimize odors. Turbulence downstream of the dam contrasts sharply with the usually placid, lake-like river above the dam. In spite of the dam the Susquehanna is often just a few feet deep at Harrisburg. Proposals have been made to raise the height of the dam in order to enhance the river’s navigability and recreational potential, although the suggestion remains controversial. The present structure has been criticized as creating currents downstream that can draw small boats upstream into the dam, an effect that has been cited in at least seventeen drownings. Since 1935, there have been over 30 documented fatalities because of the dam. Solutions have been proposed, including the piling of stone or concrete debris south of the dam to disrupt the current, but have not been implemented. Dock Street, which was between Hanna and Hemlock streets in the Shipoke neighborhood ran east from Front Street to Ninth Street, was eliminated when Interstate 83 and the John Harris Bridge were built.

Paxton Creek is a 13.9-mile-long (22.4 km) tributary of the Susquehanna River in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania in the United States. The Paxton Creek watershed covers an area of 27.4 square miles (71 km2) and joins the Susquehanna River at South Harrisburg, Harrisburg.The name Paxton, or Paxtang, is derived the Susquehannock term "Peshtank", meaning "where the waters stand" or "the place of springs". It is born from two branches on the southern slopes of Blue Mountain to form the main stem in Lower Paxton Township. It then forms Wildwood Lake in Susquehanna Township, artificially formed in 1908 by damming the creek for recreational activities. Later, it extends downstream approximately 6.2 miles to Harrisburg as a concrete channel built in 1914 (against the wishes of Warren Manning) to mitigate urban runoff and flooding, which is common after severe storms. This urban section of the confluence has been subject to planned restoration efforts, with a 2018 study published by PennDOT stating a goal aiming to "restore the creek’s ecosystem and improve its functions and services" by reversing the negative effects of the concrete channel and its degradation. Where the stream passes through the city it receives the discharges from several large sewers, which, during dry weather, pollute the water and foul the shores and bottom of the creek to a very objectionable extent.

The Simon Cameron House, also known as John Harris Mansion and the Harris–Cameron Mansion, is a historic house museum at 219 South Front Street in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Built in 1766 and frequently extended and altered, it is one of Harrisburg's oldest buildings, and is nationally notable as the summer residence of Simon Cameron (1799–1889), an influential Republican Party politician during and after the American Civil War. The house and family items were donated to the Historical Society of Dauphin County in 1941, which now operates it as a museum. The mansion was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1975, and is located in the Harrisburg Historic District.

The Mulberry Street Bridge is a concrete arch bridge that spans Cameron Street and Paxton Creek in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The bridge is the second constructed at the current site to connect the Allison Hill neighborhood of East Harrisburg to Downtown. It replaced an iron and fire-prone, wood-decked structure erected in 1891, which was heralded as a unifier of a "Greater Harrisburg". The concrete replacement bridge constructed in 1909, was a marvel at the time, and is eligible to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The John A. F. Hall Manor is a neighborhood of mixed-income housing in South Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, managed by the Harrisburg Housing Authority and named after former mayor John A. F. Hall. Built in 1953, there are 540 apartments in 54 buildings spread over 43 acres. The HHA plans to re-submit an application for a planning grant under the Choice Neighborhood Program, and apply funds to reconfigure the neighborhood with more vibrant amenities currently non-existent, and eventually redevelop it in the long term. In the adjacent John N. Hall Club House (named after unrelated John Newton Hall, a late civic philanthropist from Camp Hill) is one of the Harrisburg Boys & Girls Clubs of America locations. Also present is a community center with day-care and on-site family services and medical facilities.

The Philadelphia & Reading Railroad Bridge carries Norfolk Southern rail lines across the Susquehanna River between Cumberland County, Pennsylvania and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Some of its concrete piers encase stone masonry piers from an earlier truss bridge on this site, completed in 1891 by the Philadelphia, Harrisburg and Pittsburgh Railroad, which was then acquired by the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad to connect its Harrisburg and Lurgan lines. The current structure was constructed from 1920 to 1924 by replacing the trusses with concrete arches one track at a time. The bridge has fifty-one concrete arches, three more than the nearby Rockville Bridge.

Seidle Memorial Hospital was a community hospital located in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and part of the PinnacleHealth System, a primary chain of hospitals and clinics serving central Pennsylvania. The hospital provided outpatient services including ambulatory surgery, FirstPlace Health Care (urgent care center), women's health, physical and occupational therapy and diagnostic radiology. The facility also housed a 35-bed hospital-based skilled nursing unit.The hospital was built on the grounds of the former Irving Female College and the building complex incorporates its President's Mansion. The hospital closed in the mid 2000s and was purchased by fox subacute.

The hospital is a teaching facility providing comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services. Physician residency programs exist on-site for family practice, internal medicine, emergency medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopaedic surgery, and general surgery.In November 2020 UPMC announced the opening of the new pediatric unit at UPMC Harrisburg. The new unit was opened in partnership with the UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and consist of 26-pediatric-beds. The unit treats infants, children, teens, and young adults age 0-21. The unit is named "UPMC Children’s Harrisburg" and features telemedicine connections to the main hospital in Pittsburgh.In May 2021 UPMC announced the renaming of UPMC Pinnacle Harrisburg to UPMC Harrisburg, effective May 24.

The Mount Pleasant Historic District is an historic district in the western part of the Allison Hill neighborhood of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. It is located from Market to Brookwood and Allison Hill Bluff to 19th street.Home to mostly Victorian architecture, it is the oldest section of Allison Hill, and represents Harrisburg's early development to the east of downtown. It was entered onto the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
