Oakland International Airport station

Oakland International Airport (IATA: OAK, ICAO: KOAK, FAA LID: OAK) is an international airport in Oakland, California, United States, 10 miles (16 km) south of downtown located in the San Francisco Bay Area. It is owned by the Port of Oakland and has domestic passenger flights to cities throughout the United States and international flights to Mexico, El Salvador and the Azores, in addition to cargo flights to China and Japan. The airport covers 2,600 acres (1,100 ha) of land.

Martin Luther King Jr. Shoreline is a regional park located on the shores of the San Leandro Bay in Oakland, California. Part of the East Bay Regional Parks system, it is named after Civil Rights Movement leader Martin Luther King Jr. The park was established in 1993 on a 741 acres (300 ha) tract of land leased from the Oakland Airport.

The Doolittle Maintenance and Storage Facility (also known as the Wheelhouse) is the operations management center for the BART Coliseum–Oakland International Airport line. The building is used for storage and maintenance of the Cable Liner cars, and is also the powerhouse for the system's 12-foot (3.7 m) drive wheels. It was initially planned to also be a passenger station; that was cut due to lack of funding but may be added as an infill station in the future. Vehicles stop at the structure in both directions to switch cable loops, but do not allow passengers to disembark.

Oyster Bay Regional Shoreline is a park in San Leandro, California, part of the East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD). It is located along the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay directly to the south of Oakland International Airport. The property was originally used as a landfill for 37 years, until it was filled to capacity in 1977, when it was capped with a clay cover. EBRPD bought the property in 1980, intending to use it as a park.

The Boeing School of Aeronautics was started by Boeing to compete against the Wright brothers' Wright Flying School and Curtiss Flying School in San Diego, California. Founded in 1929 at Oakland Municipal Airport in Oakland, California, the school started with a staff of 19 and 100 students. It was licensed by the Aeronautical Chamber of Commerce, which licensed aviation schools in that time period.By 1937, the school had expanded operations to 41 staff and 500 students. In October 1938, General Arnold brought in the top three aviation school representatives to request they establish an unfunded startup of Civilian Pilot Training Program schools at their own risk. These were Oliver Parks of Parks Air College, C. C. Moseley of the Curtiss-Wright Technical Institute, and Theophilus Lee, Jr., of the Boeing School of Aeronautics; all agreed to start work. This expanded in 1940 to include training of 5000 U.S. Army Mechanics. The school expanded to 14 buildings and 1000 students at its peak in 1942. Commercial pilot training was suspended to customer United Airlines to meet wartime demand in August that year. By 1943, the CPTP contract had expired and Boeing absorbed the school operations into the parent company. The facilities remained under the new name United Air Lines Training Center which continued to train mechanics under a Navy contract until 1945, before closing. The school operated early Boeing aircraft. These included the Boeing Model 81 and Model 100 pursuit fighter in 1928 and the Boeing Model 203 in 1929. Students would help design, develop, test fly and maintain Boeing aircraft, providing the parent company sales and engineering feedback. Several original aircraft were designed by students and teachers, such as the 1939 Thorp T-5, and T-6.The Oakland Aviation Museum is based at the former Boeing building.

Oakland Aviation Museum, formerly called Western Aerospace Museum, was founded in 1981 as a non-profit organization operating an aviation museum located at North Field of Oakland International Airport in Oakland, California. It has over 30 vintage and modern airplanes, both civilian and military, and other displays that highlight noted aviators and innovators.

The Independent Institute is an American libertarian think tank based in Oakland, California. Founded in 1986 by David J. Theroux, the institute focuses on political, social, economic, legal, environmental, and foreign policy issues. It has more than 140 research fellows. The institute was originally established in San Francisco, was re-located in 1989 to Oakland, and since 2006 has had an office in Washington, D.C. The institute is organized into seven centers addressing a range of issues. According to the 2020 Global Go To Think Tank Index Report (Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program, University of Pennsylvania), the institute is ranked number 42 (of 110) in the "Top Think Tanks in the United States".

The San Leandro Oyster Beds in San Leandro, California, were the origin of the oyster industry in the U.S. state of California. During the 1890s, the oyster industry thrived until it became the single most important fishery in the state. According to the description provided by the California Office of Historic Preservation, Moses Wicks is supposed to have been the first to bring seed oysters around Cape Horn and implant them in the San Leandro beds. The oyster industry in San Francisco Bay was at its height around the turn of the 20th century. It reached a secondary peak by 1911 and then faded away because of polluted conditions of the bay.The former site of the oyster beds was named a California Historical Landmark (#824) and is located in the San Leandro Marina. The historical marker has been stolen but the mounting holes remain in a large mosaic depicting oyster harvesting early in the 1900s. A photograph of the site is available online. It shows the curved mosaic mural and the space where the historical marker was formerly located.

Mulford Landing is a neighborhood in San Leandro in Alameda County, California. Originally known as Wicks Landing, the landing at San Leandro was founded in 1853 by Moses Wicks, Thomas W. Mulford, Eliphalet M. Smith, and William Smith. They made a living by selling wildfowl, which was trapped in the Rancho San Leandro and transported from their landing across the Bay to San Francisco. Mulford, who had come to California in 1849, bought the others out in 1868.The Mulford station on the South Pacific Coast railway line between Alameda Point and Newark took its original name from this. It was later renamed the West San Leandro station when the Southern Pacific Railroad Company bought the line in 1887.Thomas W. Mulford also leased from José Joaquín Estudillo, and eventually owned, a farm named Shore Acres; had an oyster fishery; and was the manager of a hotel and restaurant in San Leandro, Estudillo House built in 1855. The farm lost all of its livestock as a result of a mass slaughter to stem hoof-and-mouth disease in 1924, and the farmland, which had been in Mulford family hands until that time, was sold in 1927 to form a subdivision, named Mulford Gardens. In 1957, this subdivision was then incorporated into San Leandro.

Oikos University is a private Korean Christian university in Oakland, California. The university is accredited by the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS).

The Oikos University shooting occurred on April 2, 2012, when a gunman shot at people inside Oikos University, a Korean Christian college in Oakland, California, United States, killing 7 people. One L. Goh, a former student at the school, was taken into custody and identified as the suspect in the shooting. Along with the California State University, Fullerton massacre, this was the fourth-deadliest university shooting in United States history, after the Virginia Tech massacre, the University of Texas Clock Tower shooting, and the Umpqua Community College shooting, and the ninth-deadliest U.S. school massacre overall. It is the deadliest mass killing in the city's history.

San Leandro Creek (Spanish: Arroyo de San Leandro) is a 21.7-mile-long (34.9 km) year-round natural stream in the hills above Oakland in Alameda County and Contra Costa County of the East Bay in northern California.
