Plas Newydd (Anglesey)

HMS Conway was a naval training school or "school ship", founded in 1859 and housed for most of her life aboard a 19th-century wooden ship of the line. The ship was originally stationed on the Mersey near Liverpool, then moved to the Menai Strait during World War II. While being towed back to Birkenhead for a refit in 1953, she ran aground and was wrecked, and later burned. The school moved to purpose-built premises on Anglesey where it continued for another twenty years.

St Edwen's Church, Llanedwen, is a 19th-century parish church near the Menai Strait, in Anglesey, north Wales. The first church was founded here by St. Edwen (daughter of Edwin of Northumbria, king and saint) in 640, but the present structure dates from 1856 and was designed by Henry Kennedy, the architect of the Diocese of Bangor. It contains some memorials from the 17th and 18th centuries and a reading desk that reuses panel work from the 14th and 17th centuries. The 18th-century historian Henry Rowlands was vicar here, and is buried in the churchyard. The church is on land that forms part of the Plas Newydd estate, home of the family of the Marquess of Anglesey since 1812 and owned by the National Trust. Some of the Marquesses of Anglesey, and some of their employees, are also buried in the churchyard. The church is used for worship by the Church in Wales, one of seven in a combined parish. A service is held using the Book of Common Prayer each Sunday morning. St Edwen's is one of the few churches in regular use in Wales to be lit entirely by candles. It is a Grade II listed building, a national designation given to "buildings of special interest, which warrant every effort being made to preserve them", in particular because it is regarded as "a good example of H Kennedy's designs for a small-scale rural church."

Llanfairpwll railway station is a station on the North Wales Coast Line from Crewe to Holyhead, serving the village of Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, Anglesey, Wales.

Port Dinorwic railway station was the name of two railway stations located on the Bangor and Carnarvon Railway near the village of Port Dinorwic (now Y Felinheli), Gwynedd, Wales. The first station was opened in 1852 and closed in 1874. A replacement station with the same name was opened later in 1874. This closed to passengers in 1960 and to all traffic in 1964.The stations were not the first in the village. Previously a small station for goods only was opened in 1824 on the Dinorwic Railway, which was later replaced by the 1842 Padarn Railway. These were built to take slate from the Dinorwic Quarry to the village. The new station of 1852 however connected local residents to passenger services throughout the country. The line through the 1852 station was doubled in 1872. and it was decided to demolish it and build a new replacement on a site 200 yards to the south, nearer the village. This station was far more substantial with a two-storey yellow brick station building, ticket office, waiting room and toilets. The second (down) platform was connected by an underpass to the first and had a yellow brick shelter on it. A small signal box was found close by.The main station building is still in existence and was Grade II listed in 1997.

Y Felinheli (Welsh pronunciation), formerly known in English as Port Dinorwic, is a village and community beside the Menai Strait (Welsh: Y Fenai or Afon Menai) between Bangor and Caernarfon in Gwynedd, northwest Wales.

Bryn Celli Ddu Welsh pronunciation: [brʌn keːɬi ðɨː] is a prehistoric site on the Welsh island of Anglesey located near Llanddaniel Fab. Its name means 'the mound in the dark grove'. It was archaeologically excavated between 1928 and 1929. Visitors can get inside the mound through a stone passage to the burial chamber, and it is the centrepiece of a major Neolithic Scheduled Monument in the care of Cadw. The presence of a mysterious pillar within the burial chamber, the reproduction of the 'Pattern Stone', carved with sinuous serpentine designs, and the fact that the site was once a henge with a stone circle, and may have been used to plot the date of the summer solstice have all attracted much interest.

The Faenol Festival (Welsh: Gŵyl y Faenol) is a music festival organised by Welsh singer Bryn Terfel, originally held annually on the Faenol Estate (Welsh: Y Faenol), near Y Felinheli in Gwynedd, north Wales. The festival was launched in 2000 and traditionally takes place on August Bank Holiday weekend. It includes both classical and Welsh popular music. In 2006 the four-day festival was attended by over 35,000 people, a record figure for the event. Cancelled in 2009, the festival was offered £250,000 of match funding over three years by the Welsh Assembly Government from 2010, but was cancelled in early August 2010 because of poor ticket sales. Scheduled headline act Westlife performed at Venue Cymru on 28 August 2010 instead.There was no festival in 2011, with Bryn Terfel saying "I prefer people to see the loss of the festival rather than try again and possibly fail again .... Perhaps there is a need to restructure the festival."In 2012 the Festival is due to return as part of the Southbank Centre's Festival of the World. It will run at the Festival Hall, London, on 4–7 July, and is designed as part of the run-up to the London 2012 Olympics.

Vaynol or Y Faenol (Welsh [ə ˈveɨnɔl]) is a country estate dating from the Tudor period near Y Felinheli in Gwynedd, North Wales (grid reference SH536695). It has 1,000 acres (4.0 km2) of park, farmland, and gardens, with more than thirty listed buildings, surrounded by a wall which is 7 miles (11 km) long. "Y Faenol" means "the manor" and is a mutated form of the Welsh word maenol. The buildings on the estate include two Grade I listed halls: Faenol Old Hall, much of which dates from the Williams' period of ownership, and Vaynol Hall, built in 1793 and extended during the 19th century. Once Vaynol Hall was built, Faenol Old Hall became a farmhouse and subsequently deteriorated; in 2003 it appeared on the BBC's Restoration programme, championed by Robert Hardy. In 2009, the BBC revisited the project, and said that Faenol Hall was now "in private ownership and has been restored". There is also a Grade I listed chapel and a very old barn on the site.The Vaynol estate should not be confused with the neighbouring National Trust land called Glan Faenol.
