Whitman-Hanson Regional High School

Whitman station is an MBTA Commuter Rail station in Whitman, Massachusetts. It serves the Plymouth/Kingston Line. It is located off South Avenue (MA 27). Parking is available on the south side of South Avenue on both sides of the tracks. The station opened along with the rest of the Old Colony Lines on September 26, 1997.

The Commonwealth Shoe and Leather Company is a historic factory complex at 7 Marble Street in Whitman, Massachusetts. The Commonwealth Shoe Company was formed in 1885 by the merger of Charles H. Jones & Co. and Bay State Shoe & Leather Co. The company produced the hugely popular Bostonian shoe, known for its high quality and comfort. The Whitman factory complex was its original site. In 1968, Commonwealth Shoe and Leather merged with Kayser-Roth, which later sold the Bostonian shoe brand to British shoemaker Clarks in 1979. Clarks still produces shoes under the Bostonian brand. The factory complex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

Hanson is a town in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, United States. Part of Greater Boston, Hanson is located 20 miles (32 km) south of Boston and is one of the inland towns of the South Shore. The population was 10,639 at the 2020 census.

Whitman Park is a historic park near the center of the town of Whitman, Massachusetts. It is bounded by Maple Street and Park, Whitman, and Hayden Avenues. The park was established in 1880 by a gift of land from Augustus Whitman, whose family gave the town its name. The well-known Olmsted Brothers landscape firm was retained to design a public park on this land, which was implemented in 1900. This gave the park the basic layout of its paths, as well as its general appearance as a woodland park with open fields for passive recreation. Features that were part of the Olmsted design include a wading pool, concrete tennis court (now used as basketball court), bandstand, and a drinking fountain. The Olmsteds were retained again in 1931 to update the design, accounting for the addition in 1908 of the Civil War monument, and to deal with problematic drainage of water from the park's low-lying areas. The major intrusion on the Olmsted design has been the construction of a Little League ballfield in one corner.The park was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

The Toll House Inn was an inn located in Whitman, Massachusetts, established in 1930 by Kenneth and Ruth Graves Wakefield. The Toll House chocolate chip cookies are named after the inn.

Cranberry Specialty Hospital was a tuberculosis sanatorium and later a chronic care facility in Hanson, Massachusetts operated by Plymouth County, Massachusetts, which was operational from 1919 until 1992. The hospital was dedicated on May 31, 1919 as Plymouth County Hospital. It was known for its architecture and its modern treatment of tuberculosis-stricken children. The hospital was one of the first to feature a modern, state-of-the-art heating system. An annex was built by 1922 that included additional rooms and wards for patients, as well as an auditorium for patients and employees to enjoy. The hospital was also equipped with a large kitchen, a two-slab morgue, and a laboratory. In 1965, under the direction of superintendent C. Clark Streeter, the hospital transitioned from a tuberculosis sanatorium to a chronic care facility. The hospital complex was renamed the Cranberry Specialty Hospital of Plymouth County in c.1984. During the late 1980s, the hospital struggled with finances, lack of admission, and inadequate treatment. The cost of maintaining the aging historic campus proved too high, and in 1992 the hospital was shut down and relocated to Middleborough, MA, where the new location would shut itself down before 2000.Though most of the campus has remained closed since 1992, the Annex has been used by the Plymouth County Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Plymouth County Beekeepers Association, the University of Massachusetts, 4-H, and is also currently home to the Hanson Food Pantry. The remainder of the property has fallen into a state of disrepair and is condemned. Plans to renovate the large hospital building fell apart after a string of devastating arson fires in the early to mid-2000s that destroyed entire wards, as well as the auditorium, kitchen, and nurses' living area. Retrieved 2017-02-03.Following another large fire in 2016, the Town of Hanson appropriated the funds to demolish the large number of abandoned buildings on the grounds. Partial demolition occurred in October 2016 when the far two right wings of the hospital were demolished. Further demolition of the remainder of the hospital building has started as of January 2017. On March 28, 2017, the physical demolition of the historic hospital building began. As of March 29, 2017, all of the remaining buildings have been entirely demolished. The hospital was known for its Mediterranean Revival/Italianate architecture, a rarity in rural Massachusetts.

Wampatuck Pond is a 64-acre (260,000 m2) pond in Hanson, Massachusetts. Indian Head Brook both flows in and out of the pond. Along the northern shore of the pond are the Routes 14 and 58 concurrency, Hanson's Town Hall, and a small park. Kings Landing way is adjacent from fern hill cemetery opposite the pond. Native American burial site sits next to a man made pond on 34 and 54 kings landing way plots. Cranberry bogs on Main Street abut the town forest and southern side river ways to the pond.Access to the pond includes a concrete ramp behind the Hanson town hall managed by the Town of Hanson suitable for three trailers and six cars. The water quality is toxic and impaired due to noxious aquatic plants.

The Rockland Almshouse is a historic almshouse at 198 Spring Street in Rockland, Massachusetts. The large 2+1⁄2-story L-shaped building was built in 1876, and served as a communal poor house until 1979. It is a rare well-preserved example of a 19th-century almshouse. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. It is currently used as an educational facility.
