The Flatbush Avenue–Brooklyn College station (announced as Brooklyn College–Flatbush Avenue station on trains) is the southern terminal station on the IRT Nostrand Avenue Line of the New York City Subway. It is located at the intersection of Flatbush and Nostrand Avenues in Flatbush, Brooklyn, locally called "The Junction". The station is served by the 2 train at all times and the 5 train on weekdays. It is also the closest subway station to Brooklyn College and Midwood High School. The Flatbush Avenue station was built along with the Nostrand Avenue Line as part of the Dual Contracts. The station opened on August 23, 1920, along with the rest of the line. Various proposals to extend the line past Flatbush Avenue were considered throughout the 20th century, but none were carried out. The Flatbush Avenue–Brooklyn College station contains two side platforms and two tracks; the platforms are connected to each other at the southern end. It is the only such terminal station in the subway system, creating an inefficient design in which passengers must know which track a train is departing from before going to the platform. The platforms contain exits to the intersection of Nostrand and Flatbush Avenues, with a secondary exit to Avenue H. The station contains an elevator, which makes it compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

The George Gershwin Theatre is a 500-seat proscenium theatre, one of four situated in the Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts complex located on the campus of Brooklyn College at 2900 Campus Road in Brooklyn, New York, United States. Named after the prolific Brooklyn-born composer, it opened its doors in 1953. It is used for four annual productions staged by the college's theatre department, whose alumni include Jimmy Smits, Paul Mazursky, and Joel Zwick, as well as music concerts, recitals, and film screenings, many of which are offered free to the community. In 1993, President Bill Clinton unveiled his AmeriCorps initiative at the theater.

The bust of George Floyd is a sculpture of George Floyd (1973–2020), an African-American man who was murdered by a police officer during his arrest in Minneapolis. It is situated in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. The sculpture sits on a marble base, with the 6-foot (1.8 m) bust being made of layers of CNC-cut okoumé plywood. It was created by artist Chris Carnabuci and unveiled by Floyd's brother Terrence, as part of the 2021 Juneteenth federal holiday, saying "My brother was the sacrifice, so I need y'all to continue to pay attention and keep my big brother's name ringing in the ears of everyone."The sculpture was scheduled to be moved to Union Square, Manhattan in July 2021.

Flatlands Dutch Reformed Church, also known as Flatlands Reformed Church, is a historic Dutch Reformed church at Kings Highway and East 40th Street in the Flatlands neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. The complex consists of the church, administration building, and cemetery. The congregation was founded in 1654. The church was built in 1848 in the Greek Revival style. The Greek Revival administration building was constructed in 1904; it was enlarged in the 1920s. The cemetery contains about 1,500 burials dating to 1660.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Brooklyn College is a public university in Brooklyn, New York. It is part of the City University of New York system and enrolls about 15,000 undergraduate and 2,800 graduate students on a 35-acre campus. Being New York City's first public coeducational liberal arts college, it was formed in 1930 by the merger of the Brooklyn branches of Hunter College, then a women's college, and of the City College of New York, then a men's college, both established in 1926. Initially tuition-free, Brooklyn College suffered in New York City government's near bankruptcy in 1975, when the college closed its campus in downtown Brooklyn. During 1976, with its Midwood campus intact and newly its only campus, Brooklyn College charged tuition for the first time. The Mount Sinai Hospital located in Brooklyn (also "Mount Sinai Brooklyn" was founded in 1955 as a private hospital. Like nearby New York Community Hospital, the 3201 Kings Highway facility with a history of name changes is One Address, Many Hospitals.As with Community, its Kosher supervision is under Vaad of Flatbush.

Midwood High School is a high school located at 2839 Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn, New York City, administered by the New York City Department of Education. It has an enrollment of 3,938 students. Its H-shaped building, with six Ionic columns and a Georgian cupola, was constructed in 1940 as part of the Works Projects Administration.

The Conservatory of Music at Brooklyn College (also known as Brooklyn College Conservatory) is the music school of Brooklyn College of the City University of New York (CUNY). It is located on the 26-acre (110,000 m2) Brooklyn College campus in Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York City. The Conservatory offers undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate degrees in instrumental and vocal performance, jazz, conducting, composition, music education, music technology, and musicology. Students study with a faculty of distinguished performers, musicologists, theorists, and composers, in addition to a roster of notable guest artists and lecturers. The conservatory is home to the Brooklyn College Center for Computer Music (BC-CCM) and the H. Wiley Hitchcock Institute for Studies in American Music. Many members of the faculty also teach at The Juilliard School or the Manhattan School of Music.

Hebrew Language Academy Charter School is a public K-8 Charter school in Brooklyn, New York. HLA is an intentionally diverse charter school which teaches the Modern Hebrew language. Like all public schools HLA does not provide religious instruction and will neither encourage nor prohibit religious devotion. The enrollment is 35% black, 6% Hispanic, 55% white, and 4% other.

Brooklyn College Academy is a high school located in Brooklyn, New York City, New York in the New York City Department of Education. A double-sited school, it serves grades 9–12. Brooklyn College Academy was ranked second (tied with Benjamin Banneker Academy) for highest graduation rate in the borough of Brooklyn, with 97% of students graduating on time. It provides children with an early college program, which ensures that they get college credit while they are still in high school.

Flatlands is a neighborhood in the southeast part of the borough of Brooklyn in New York City. The current neighborhood borders are roughly defined by the Bay Ridge Branch to the north, Avenue U to the south, Ralph Avenue to the east, and Flatbush Avenue to the southwest. Catherine McAuley High School was a small, all-girls', private, Catholic high school in the East Flatbush section of Brooklyn, New York. Founded by the Brooklyn Sisters of Mercy in 1942, it is located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn. It remains the only all-girls' Catholic high school in Brooklyn or Queens to have earned the Blue Ribbon Award from the U.S. Department of Education. McAuley closed at the end of the 2012-2013 school year. The closing was the result of declining enrollment due to changing demographics, the increasing number of charter schools, rising costs, and the economic downturn. The final commencement took place on Saturday, June 1, 2013.
