Llangunllo

Llangynllo railway station is a countryside stop in Powys about 5 miles west of Knighton, on the Heart of Wales Line. The station is located 1.4 miles north of Llangunllo village (also known as Llangynllo), at road level beside one house and two cottages on a minor rural road off the B4356 road.

St Mary Magdalene's Church is an active parish church in the village of Bleddfa, Powys, Wales. Tradition asserts that a clas church was founded on the site by St Brendan the Navigator in the 6th century but there is neither documentary or built evidence to support the claim. The present church dates from the 13th century. The bellcote was built in 1711 and the church restored in the early 20th century and again in the 1970s. St Mary Magdalene's is designated by Cadw as a Grade I listed building.

Bleddfa Castle (sometimes referred to as Bledeach or Bledvach Castle) was a motte and bailey structure near Llangunllo in modern-day Powys, Wales. It is believed to have been built before 1195 and abandoned by 1304. What remains today is described as a "mutilated oval mound" of 46 by 36 metres (151 ft × 118 ft), containing some traces of masonry. It is surrounded by a rectangular bailey measuring 100 by 60 metres (330 ft × 200 ft), with a hedge on its northern border.

Bleddfa is a village which lies on the road from Knighton to Penybont and is located in the community of Llangunllo, Powys, Wales. It is 5 miles (8 km) from Knighton. Until 1983 Bleddfa was a community itself. Two hillforts dating to around 200 BC guard the village: Clog Hill above the village, and Llysin Hill to the west. St Mary Magdalene's Church, Bleddfa dates from the 13th century. In the 19th century part of the building was used as a schoolroom. It is a Grade I listed building. In 1766, the Swiss philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau, whose ideas were instrumental in underpinning the French Revolution, was offered lodgings in a 16th-century grange house called 'Monaughty' which was near Bleddfa. He was so enamoured by Wales during his stay that he hoped Wales would be his final resting place (though he eventually died in Ermenonville, France).

Monaughty House (or Mynachdy, Welsh for 'Monastery') stands in the community of Llangunllo, Powys, Wales. Dating from c. 1565, it is one of the oldest stone-built houses in the county and a Grade I listed building.

Llanfair Waterdine, sometimes written as Llanvair Waterdine and meaning St Mary's Church Waterdine, is a small village and civil parish in Shropshire, England, on the north side of the Teme valley and adjacent to the Wales-England border.

Knucklas (Welsh: Cnwclas, meaning "green hillock") is a village in the community of Beguildy, in Powys, Wales, previously Radnorshire. It lies in the upper valley of the River Teme, just off the B4355 road and is served by Knucklas railway station on the Heart of Wales Line. It is approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) from the market town of Knighton.

Radnor Forest (Welsh: Fforest Clud) is a rock dome composed of Silurian shales, mudstones and limestone in the historic county of Radnorshire, Powys, Mid Wales. It is a forest in the medieval sense of the word (an area of land set aside for hunting). It lies within the Welsh Marches region since Offa's Dyke lies nearby to the east. The area lies to the north of the Black Mountains and to the east of the Cambrian Mountains. Hergest Ridge is immediately to the south-east of the area (just across the English border into Herefordshire), near the small town of Kington. The highest point in the area is Rhos Fawr a broad plateau which reaches 660 metres (2,165 ft), and is equipped with a trig point to mark the summit. A similar plateau adjoining to the east, Black Mixen is the only Nuttall to have a communications mast (a radio transmitter) on its summit.

Black Mixen (Welsh: Y Domen Ddu) is a subsidiary summit of Rhos Fawr or Great Rhos in the Radnor Forest. The summit is large peat bog plateau. The summit is marked with a cairn, and is next to a radio transmitter and its building.Black Mixen is the only Nuttall to have a communications mast (a radio transmitter) on its summit. To the east is Bache Hill, to the south are the Black Mountains, to the west is the Great Rhos plateau. The summit cairn is probably of Bronze Age date, with most peaks in the area showing similar barrowss.

Cascob (Welsh: Casgob) is a small village in Powys. It is located in a valley five miles to the south-west of Knighton. The village is part of Whitton, Powys. The village is situated to the east of Radnor Forest, an area of moorland just within Wales. It also lies to the north-west of the small border town of Kington. In 1086, when the Domesday Book was compiled, Cascob was listed with no recorded population but within the hundred of Leintwardine. Additionally, it was counted under both Herefordshire and Shropshire.

Knucklas railway station serves the village of Knucklas, Powys, Wales, 34+3⁄4 miles (55.9 km) south west of Shrewsbury. The station is located on a steep hillside overlooking the village and operates as a request stop. Passengers wishing to board are required to signal to the driver, while those intending to alight must notify the train staff. After departing from the station in the westerly direction, trains pass over the 190 yd (173 m) long Knucklas viaduct. This is one of the major structures on the route, its 13 stone arches carrying the line at a maximum height of 75 feet (23 m) across the Heyope valley and Knucklas village. The route then climbs sharply from east to west for the next 4 miles (6.4 km) on a ruling gradient of 1 in 60, en route to the summit of the line just to the south of Llangynllo Tunnel. All trains serving the station are operated by Transport for Wales.

The Battle of Bryn Glas (also known as the Battle of Pilleth) was a battle between the Welsh and English on 22 June 1402, near the towns of Knighton and Presteigne in Powys, Wales. It was part of the Glyndŵr Rising of 1400-1415. It was an important victory for the Welsh under Owain Glyndŵr, as it resulted in the prolongation of the Welsh war of independence and the destabilisation of English politics for several years afterward.
