Maenporth

Bareppa is a hamlet in west Cornwall, England, United Kingdom, three miles (5 km) southwest of Falmouth. It is in the civil parish of Mawnan.

Carlidnack (or Carlinack) is a hamlet in the parish of Mawnan, Cornwall, England. Carlidnack lies 2.7 miles (4.3 km) south-west of Falmouth on a road leading north-east from Mawnan Smith and at around 495 feet (151 m) above sea level.There is evidence of an ancient settlement at Carlidnack called a round that dates back to the late Iron Age or Roman period. This is a scheduled ancient monument that has been listed by English Heritage. The round is a circular area enclosed by a bank of earth and a ditch and with a single entrance; a round is usually a sign of an agricultural settlement. The round at Carlidnack has a bank that is 4 yards (3.7 m) high, a ditch that is 0.7 yards (0.64 m) deep and has a diameter of 140 yards (130 m); there are modern buildings on the site that date back to the early 20th century.

Penjerrick Garden -- often referred to as "Cornwall's true jungle garden"—lies between Budock Water and Mawnan Smith, near Falmouth, United Kingdom. Established in the early 19th century by Robert Were Fox F.R.S. and his children, Anna Maria, Barclay and Caroline (R. W. Fox's brother, Charles was responsible for the Garden at Trebah and his brother, Alfred, for the garden at Glendurgan), the 15-acre (61,000 m2), sub-tropical, spring-flowering garden has views of Budock Water and a considerable historical and botanical interest. The founders planted the upper garden with specimens from abroad including rhododendrons, camellias, magnolias, azaleas, tree ferns and bamboos. The garden is also home to the Penjerrick and Barclayi hybrid rhododendrons. The skeleton of a brain coral brought to Penjerrick by Captain FitzRoy of the Beagle (that was Charles Darwin's expedition ship) can be found in the garden.The lower part of Penjerrick is a dense valley garden reached by a wooden bridge. In this wild, jungle-like setting are four ponds and countless tree ferns that date back almost to the original planting of the garden. The tranquil garden (now owned by Rachel Morin) is at its best in April and May.

Mawnan Smith (Cornish: Mownan an Gov) is a village in the civil parish of Mawnan in south Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is situated approximately three miles south of Falmouth. In 2019 it had an estimated population of 1020.The parish church of St Mawnan and St Stephen is in Mawnan village (also known as Mawnan Church). A second church, St Michael's, was built in the village of Mawnan Smith in 1876 and there was also a Wesleyan Methodist chapel in the village. The village name may derive from the fact that it once had four working smithies serving the many farms in the parish. By the early 20th century only one remained in business. It was operated by blacksmith Billy James followed by his son Dryden and closed when the latter died in 1994. The Mawnan Anvil Trust has since restored the smithy as a working forge with a resident Artist Blacksmith and the site now also includes a Silversmith, Sign Writer and Carpenter.

Penmere Manor Hotel near Falmouth, Cornwall, is a house of historical significance and is Grade II listed on the English Heritage Register. It was built in about 1825 by a wealthy sea captain and was the home of numerous notable people over the next 150 years. It is now a hotel which provides accommodation and restaurant facilities and has a leisure club.

Budock Water (Cornish: Roseglos, meaning church hillspur) is a village and former manor in the civil parish of Budock, Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. The village is situated two miles (3 km) west of Falmouth.According to the 2001 census Budock parish had a population of 1,399. This had increased to 1,537 at the 2011 census. The parish includes the smaller villages of Lamanva and Treverva and encompasses 2,400 acres (9.7 km2) of land. The hamlet of Mongleath is also in the parish. Arable farming in the parish includes early potatoes, broccoli and daffodils.

It is in the former administrative district of Kerrier and is bounded to the south by the Helford River, to the east by the sea, and to the west by Constantine parish. The population was 1,454 in the 2001 census, rising slightly to 1,476 at the 2011 census. The church town of the parish is Mawnan Church, also known simply as Mawnan, and the only large village in the parish is Mawnan Smith, approximately three miles south of Falmouth.

The Helford River (Cornish: Dowr Mahonyer) is a ria (flooded river valley) in Cornwall, England, fed by small streams into its many creeks. There are seven creeks on the Helford; from west to east these are Ponsontuel Creek, Mawgan Creek, Polpenwith Creek, Polwheveral Creek, Frenchman's Creek, Port Navas Creek, and Gillan Creek. The best known of these is Frenchman's Creek, made famous by Daphne du Maurier in her novel of the same name. A little further up river is Tremayne Quay, built for a visit by Queen Victoria in the 1840s which she then declined to make, allegedly because it was raining.

Swanpool (Cornish: Lynyeyn Pryskelow, meaning cold pool of the elm thicket) is a small coastal saline lagoon with a shingle bar, separating it from the beach of the same name. The South West Coast Path crosses the bar. The pool is near the town of Falmouth, on the south coast of Cornwall, England, UK, between Maenporth and Gyllyngvase. A notable building in the area is Swanpool House, a 19th-century building which was occupied by American forces during the Second World War but is now in use as holiday apartments. There was formerly a mine extending beneath the lagoon.
