Chatham Green

Little Leighs is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Great and Little Leighs, in the Chelmsford district in the English county of Essex. In 1931 the parish had a population of 158. On 1 April 1949 the parish was abolished and merged with Great Leighs to form "Great and Little Leighs".Little Leighs lies beside the River Ter, just south of the village of Great Leighs. Until rerouting bypassed the village, Little Leighs was on the A131 road. The church in the village is dedicated to St John the Evangelist. Built of flint rubble, the fabric of the structure dates back at least as far as the early twelfth century.

Little Waltham is a village and civil parish just north of Chelmsford, in Essex, England. It is adjacent to the village of Great Waltham. The Domesday Book refers to the two villages as Waltham, consisting of several manors. The site of an Iron Age village was excavated before upgrading the main road north between the current villages. The village straddles the River Chelmer. Its main street has a number of old houses near the bridge, notably a rare Essex example of a Wealden hall house, now divided into three cottages. A footpath leads south alongside the river to an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, part of which is a nature reserve. The countryside is under continued threat from housing and road development.

Great and Little Leighs is a civil parish in the City of Chelmsford in Essex, England. The parish includes the villages of Great Leighs and Little Leighs. In 2011 the civil had a population of 2,709. The villages was mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086, and was then called Leg(r)a. The parish was created in 1946.

Phyllis Currie Nature Reserve is an 8.9-hectare (22-acre) nature reserve north-west of Great Leighs in Essex. It is owned and managed by the Essex Wildlife Trust.This site is named after Mrs Phyllis Currie, who bequeathed it to the trust. It has diverse habitats, with grassland, a lake, woodland and ditches. Birds include kingfishers and grey herons, and 23 species of butterflies and 13 of dragonflies and damselflies have been recorded.There is access from Dumney Lane.

Littley Green is a hamlet in the civil parish of Great Waltham and the Chelmsford borough of Essex, England. The hamlet is at the extreme north of Great Waltham, with the nearest settlement the hamlet of Hartford End, less than 1 mile (2 km) west in the civil parish of Felsted. At the north-west edge of the hamlet and within the parish is the 319 acres (1.3 km2) residential farm of Littley Park. The house is timber framed and plastered, dates to the 16th century, and is Grade II listed. Littley Park was in the possession of Richard Rich (1496/7 – 1567), Lord Chancellor and founder of Felsted School, who gained the property after the suppression of the monasteries. It was put up for sale in 2017 at a guide price of above £5m. Other listed buildings at Littley Green included the timber framed and plastered houses, dating from the 15th to 17th century, of Bywater House, Butlers, Butlers Hall, Hope cottage, Mabb's Farmhouse, and Oak House which was formerly the Royal Oak Inn.From 1882 to at least 1914, Littley Green was in the ecclesiastical parish of Ford End, also known as Forth End, which was formed out of Great Waltham, and centred on the village of Ford End 1.5 miles (2.4 km) to the west. In 1882, Littley Green had a beer retailer and pig dealer, and one farmer at Littley Park; in 1894 two, with the extra farmer at Butler's Lodge. A licensed victualler at The Compasses public house was listed in the late 19th century to at least the First World War; in 1894 he was also a shopkeeper. In 1902, a blacksmith and beer retailer was listed, but just a blacksmith in 1914.Littley Green has a public house called The Compasses Inn.

Howe Street is a rural hamlet on the banks of the River Chelmer. It is situated in the parish of Great Waltham, in the Chelmsford district, in the county of Essex, England. It is 6 miles north of the City centre. It has a population of around 200, the village post office and shop closed in 2008 and closest nearby shop and schools are located in Great Waltham 1.3 miles away. Howe Street has a Historic Grade II listed 14th-century Freehouse pub (one of the oldest in Essex) known as The Green Man, which opened 7 November 2016 to the public, after major refurbishment costing £3 million and investment being part of a new venture for renowned Essex born Michelin star chef brothers Chris and Geoff Galvin. It is one of several listed historic buildings in the hamlet many of which are well preserved examples of Early East Anglia Timber Frame construction. There is also some light industry including an active working farm known as Fitzandrews (part of the Langleys Estate) and several commercial units located at Warners Farm providing local employment. Howe Street is also known as the birthplace of Milbank Floors established by Geoffrey Milbank in 1947 however no longer based in the village they were located on the site now known as Bridge Croft - a 1980s built housing development.

Sandylay and Moat Woods is a 7.5-hectare (19-acre) nature reserve east of Great Leighs in Essex. It is owned and managed by the Essex Wildlife Trust.These adjacent woods are mainly coppiced small-leaved lime, with a small stream and many flowering plants, including wood anemones, sweet violets, spurge laurel, stinking iris and early purple orchid.There is access by a footpath from Mill Lane.

Minnow End is a hamlet in the parish of Great Waltham in Chelmsford district, in the English county of Essex. Nearby settlements include the town of Chelmsford and the villages of Great Waltham and Little Waltham. For transport there is the B1008 road, the A131 road and the A130 road nearby.

Lyons Hall is a Grade II listed house in Great Leighs, Essex. The house dates to the 15th century. The house has been home to the Tritton banking family for many years, and Joseph Herbert Tritton died there in 1923.

The River Ter SSSI is a stretch of the River Ter and its banks south of Great Leighs in Essex which has been designated a geological Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is a Geological Conservation Review site.According to the Natural England citation: This reach of the River Ter is representative of a lowland stream with a distinctive floor regime. It is flashy, draining a low-lying catchment on glacial till, and has a very low base flow discharge but high flood peaks; daily, monthly and annual flow variability are also high. In addition the site demonstrates characteristic features of a lowland stream including pool-riffle sequences, bank erosion, bedload transport and dimensional adjustments to flooding frequency.Most of the river is inaccessible as it is surrounded by dense vegetation, but a footpath runs through an area of the north bank, east of the road called Cole Hill, which is within the SSSI.

Leez Priory is a 16th-century mansion in Little Leighs, a small parish in the district of Chelmsford in the county of Essex, England. The civil parish boundary between Felsted and Great and Little Leighs crosses the priory, so that it partially lies in Felsted and partially in Great and Little Leighs. The priory was designated a Grade I listed building in 1952.
