Cammeringham Priory

Cammeringham is a village and civil parish in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated 6 miles (10 km) north of Lincoln, and just off the A15 road near RAF Scampton. According to the 2001 census the village had a population of 123, increasing slightly to 127 at the 2011 census.Cammeringham Grade II* listed Anglican church is dedicated to St Michael. St Michael's is a remnant of a much larger church; arches from the earlier building are embedded into its aisle wall, and the west doorway has a pre-Conquest knotwork sill. The graveyard holds ancient graves hollowed out of rock.Within the parish was the Praemonstratensian Cammeringham Priory, founded by Richard de Haya about 1160 as an alien cell to the Abbey of Blanchelande in Normandy. The priory and its rights was sold in 1396 to the Cistercian Abbot of Hulton in Staffordshire.John de Bothby, Lord Chancellor of Ireland, who died in about 1383, is recorded as owning a manor at Cammeringham. RAF Ingham was renamed RAF Cammeringham in 1944. The airfield is now disused and derelict.

The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 111, having slightly fallen from a figure of 113 quoted on the 2001 census. It is situated 5 miles (8 km) north of Lincoln, to the west of the A15, and near to RAF Scampton. In 1981 the village was designated a conservation area.

Aisthorpe is a small village and civil parish in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. Aisthorpe is recorded as Æstorp in 1086, probably meaning "the secondary settlement to the east" from the Old English east and Old Danish thorp.It is situated between Scampton and Brattleby on the B1398, a small back road to the west of, and parallel to, the A15 northern section of Ermine Street out of Lincoln.Aisthorpe, or East Thorpe, is listed in the 1086 Domesday Book as consisting of 12 households.The parish church is a Grade II listed building dedicated to Saint Peter and was built in 1867 by T. C. Hine of Nottingham.Aisthorpe Hall is a Grade II listed country house dating from the 17th century, with later additions. The Hall also has an 18th-century Grade II listed stable block.

Scampton is a village and civil parish in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. The population of the civil parish including Brampton and Broadholme at the 2011 census was 1,358. It is situated 8 km (5 mi) north of Lincoln, 16 km (10 mi) south-east of Gainsborough, and immediately west of the A15. In the civil parish, between the village and the A15, is RAF Scampton, to which the parish lends its name. The airfield first opened in 1916 as Home Defence Flight Station Brattleby, becoming Scampton the following year, and then closing in 1919; it re-opened in 1936 as RAF Scampton.

Royal Air Force Cammeringham or more simply RAF Cammeringham (formerly RAF Ingham) was a Royal Air Force station used by RAF Bomber Command between 1940 and 1945 and the Polish Air Force until 1946. The airfield was located between the A15 (Ermine Street) and B1398 roads, 10.3 mi (16.6 km) north of the city Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England and due east of the village of Ingham. Mainly used as an overflow airfield for nearby RAF Hemswell and later as a training establishment, its continued use was limited by damage to its grassed runways. The airfield closed in early December 1946.

Fillingham is a village and civil parish in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated 9 miles (14.5 km) north from the city and county town of Lincoln, and just over 1 mile (1.6 km) west from the A15 road. Fillingham Grade II* listed Anglican church is dedicated to St Andrew. Originally a building in Early English and Decorated style, it was largely rebuilt in 1777 with a new chancel and tower. It was further restored in 1866. The earliest element is a c.1200 round-headed doorway in the west transept. In the churchyard is a cross, 30 feet (9 m) high, dedicated to Major Thomas N. Dalton, killed in the Battle of Inkerman in 1854. John Wycliffe was rector of the village from 1361 to 1368.There is evidence of a Roman camp in the village and Anglo Saxon pottery has also been found. Archaeological excavations have also found evidence of an Anglo Saxon cemetery which may have been associated with a second church in the village.Fillingham Castle is a castellated mansion built in 1760 by Sir Cecil Wray. A nearby stone manor house was built about a century before.Fillingham Lake is one of the sources of the River Till, a small river whose lower reaches form the Fossdyke Navigation.

Royal Air Force Scampton or RAF Scampton (formerly IATA: SQZ, ICAO: EGXP) is a former Royal Air Force station located adjacent to the A15 road near to the village of Scampton, Lincolnshire, and 6 miles (9.7 km) north-west of the city of Lincoln, England.RAF Scampton stood on the site of a First World War Royal Flying Corps landing field, which had been called Brattleby. The station was closed and returned to agriculture following the First World War, and reactivated in the 1930s. It has provided an airfield for fighters in the First World War, bombers during the Second World War and V-force Avro Vulcans during the Cold War. The station was temporarily closed in 1996, but subsequently re-opened to provide a home for the RAF Aerobatic Team the Red Arrows, and to private companies, temporarily, such as Hawker Hunter Aviation, for the maintenance and storage of aircraft.In July 2018, the Ministry of Defence announced that Scampton would close and be sold, with all units relocated elsewhere. The station closed on 31 March 2023.

North Carlton is a village and civil parish in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 172. It is situated about 5 miles (8.0 km) north from the city and county town of Lincoln. The church of Saint Luke is a Grade II listed building dating from the 15th century, although it was largely rebuilt in the early 1770s.

The Lincolnshire Showground is an agricultural showground and exhibition centre in North Carlton, north of Lincoln in England. It is the chief exhibition centre of the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society, and has been used for large events such as LincsFest, the Lincolnshire Farming Conference, Poacher International Jamboree for scouts and guides, and as a vaccination centre during the COVID-19 crisis in England.The venue incorporates the EPIC exhibition centre and a woodland.
