The district encompasses 50 contributing buildings and 2 contributing structures in the railroad town of Little Mountain. The buildings date from about 1890 to 1950 and include residences, businesses, and other institutional buildings. They include examples of the Gothic Revival, Neo-Classical, Colonial Revival, Victorian or Queen Anne, and Bungalow styles.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.

Little Mountain is a monadnock that is the highest point in the Midlands region of South Carolina. It has an elevation of 813 feet (247 m) above mean sea level and is located in southeastern Newberry County, about 25 miles from Columbia. The monadnock itself rises 300 feet above the surrounding belt of hills and is formed of Carolina slate. In its early history (dating back to the 19th century) it was known as Ruff's Mountain and eventually took the name of the town that incorporated at its foot, Little Mountain. It was originally part of Lexington County until 1917 and currently has a radio tower that serves the northwestern exurban area of Columbia on its summit that reaches 1040 feet at its top.

Mayfair is a historic home located near Jenkinsville, Fairfield County, South Carolina. It was built about 1824, and is a two-story, weatherboarded Federal style frame residence with a hipped roof. The front façade features a central, two-story, polygonal pedimented portico. According to local tradition, Mayfair was the home of Burrell B. Cook, a moderately wealthy planter, who served in the Twenty-eighth General Assembly of South Carolina from 1828 to 1829.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

Jenkinsville is an incorporated town in western Fairfield County, South Carolina, United States, between the Broad and the Little rivers. It is located east of Monticello Reservoir and is near the Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Generating Station. Also in the area is the Kincaid-Anderson House and quarry. The town was incorporated in 2008. Jenkinsville's population at the 2010 census was 46, making it South Carolina's second smallest town.In addition to the Kincaid-Anderson House, the Ebenezer Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, Dr. John Glenn House, High Point, Little River Baptist Church, and Mayfair are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Robinson-Hiller House in Chapin, Lexington County, South Carolina, was built in 1902. It is significant as a Queen Anne house and for being associated with Charles Plumber Robinson (1867-1944), a businessman who founded C.P. Robinson Lumber Company and other enterprises, and his wife Sarah "Eddie" Smithson Robinson, a "social activist and officer of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union." In 1919, after the Robinsons left Chapin, the house was acquired by James Haltiwanger Hiller.It was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1998. It is currently a commercial spa.

Chapin is located approximately 24 miles (39 km) northwest of Columbia, and many people commute there for work; however, the town is considered fringe rural by the US postal service.The town government is set up in the mayor-council form, and the current mayor is Albert Koon. Chapin has four public schools in the area; the first Chapin school was built in 1924. Lake Murray is the main attraction to Chapin and provides boaters with water-related recreation.

Dr. John Glenn House is a historic home located near Jenkinsville, Fairfield County, South Carolina. It was built about 1845, and is a two-story, five-bay, weatherboarded frame, end-gabled Greek Revival style residence. It has a double-pile and central-hall plan with a rear shed room. The front façade features a two-tiered porch in the three central bays with a pedimented gable end.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
