Whitwell, Isle of Wight

The Church of St. Mary and St. Radegund, Whitwell is a parish church in the Church of England located in Whitwell on the Isle of Wight.

Whitwell Station, on the Ventnor West branch of the Isle of Wight Central Railway, was opened on 20 July 1897 along with the other stations on the branch (with the exception of Ventnor West which opened in 1900). It was equipped with a passing loop, two platforms, a signal box and a substantial station building.

Nettlecombe is a farming hamlet on the Isle of Wight. It is the site of a deserted medieval village and there is evidence of earthworks close to the present hamlet. There are several fishing lakes in Nettlecombe.It lies along Nettlecombe Lane, about half a mile north-east of Whitwell. Until 1952, the Isle of Wight Central Railway had a station on Nettlecombe Lane.

The A3055 is an A-Class Road on the Isle of Wight in Southern England. It forms the Southern portion of the circular around-the-Island A-class loop, the northern section being the A3054. The stretch along the south-west coast of the Island is formed by the Military Road. Because of the road's relatively short length, there are no confirmatory signs with distances, although on a few direction signs at junctions there are distances to the next town. The final destination of the road (Freshwater/Totland or Ryde), in common with most UK roads, is not signed along the whole length of the route. As well as fitting with national practice, this is also because anybody wishing to travel from Totland to Ryde by road would do so via the North coast A3054, as it is much more direct. Numerous landslips have affected the road in recent history, particularly around Undercliff Drive between Ventnor and Niton, which has resulted in sections being closed for repair on several occasions.

Mirables ("fine prospect") is an English country house on the Isle of Wight in South East England. It was built by George Arnold of Ashby Lodge, Northamptonshire.

Bierley is a hamlet on the Isle of Wight, UK. Bierley is in the south of the Isle of Wight, north of Niton and 0.7 miles to the west of Whitwell. Bierley is at the corner of Kingates Lane and Newport Road. Bierley was the site of brickmaking operations in the past. The Prichetts, a local family involved in brickmaking, opened the Bierley brickyard in 1800. In the 1901 Census the brickmaking operations are being run by William Scovell of Ryde Public transport is provided by Southern Vectis bus route 6, running from Newport to Ventnor.

Binnel Bay is a bay on the south coast of the Isle of Wight, England. It lies between the villages of St. Lawrence and Niton. It faces south towards the English Channel, and is just under one mile (1.6 km) in length. It stretches from Binnel Point in the east to Puckaster Cove in the west. The bay is remote with a rocky and exposed shoreline backed by low cliffs and woodlands. It is best viewed from Binnel Point, where the bay can be seen stretching west towards Puckaster Cove, with St Catherine's Lighthouse visible in the distance. Large sections of a now destroyed 19th century seawall can be seen along the shore.

St Lawrence railway station is a former railway station in the village of St Lawrence on the Isle of Wight.

Woody Bay is a small bay on the south coast of the Isle of Wight, England. It lies along the coastline beneath the village of St. Lawrence. The bay faces south towards the English Channel, its shoreline is 260 yards (240 m) in length.The bay has a rocky and exposed shoreline with areas of shingle and a storm beach formed from large pebbles. It is backed by cliffs composed of landslide debris from the Upper Greensand and Chalk. The bay is part of the Undercliff landslide complex, although is a largely stable area of the landslide zone despite recent minor movements. The Isle of Wight Coastal Path runs along the coast behind the bay and onto Woody Point, where the bay can be best viewed from. A small track runs down from the coastal path on which the bay can be accessed. During the winter of 2019/2020 a large rotational landslide took place in the cliff face in the central section of the bay. Further minor landslides took place in the winter of 2020/2021, driving further landslide debris onto the beach. Immediately west of Woody Bay is the Sugarloaf, a geological formation formed from a block of tilted and slipped Upper Greensand Formation originally derived from the inland cliff. A footpath leads to the top of the Sugarloaf, with views along the Undercliff coast.

St Lawrence's Church, St Lawrence is a parish church in the Church of England located in St Lawrence, Isle of Wight. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building.

Reeth Bay is a small curved bay on the southernmost tip of the Isle of Wight, England. It lies to the south of the village of Niton with a 1⁄4-mile-long (0.4 km) shoreline. It faces south out into the English Channel and lies to the east of St. Catherine's Point lighthouse. It is at the centre of a small hamlet called Castlehaven where there is a concrete ramp for launching small craft. The beach is predominantly sand and pebbles. The seabed is a mixture of rocks and mud. The bay is best accessed from the road from Niton that leads down to the bay.

Niton is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Niton and Whitwell, on the Isle of Wight, England. It is west of Ventnor, with a population of 2,082. It has two pubs, several churches, a pottery workshop/shop, a pharmacy, a busy volunteer-run library, a medical centre and two local shops including a post office. The post office includes a pub and café that serves as a local meeting place. The village also offers a primary school with a co-located pre-school and nursery.
