The Diocese of Paterson (Latin: Dioecesis Patersonensis) is a Latin Church ecclesiastical territory, or diocese, of the Catholic Church in northern New Jersey. It is a suffragan diocese in the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Archdiocese of Newark. The patrons of the diocese are Saint Patrick and John the Baptist. Its proper feasts are the Feast of St. Patrick (March 17), the Nativity of John the Baptist (June 24) and the anniversary of the dedication of the cathedral church (June 30).As of 2023, the current bishop of Paterson is Kevin J. It has since evolved into a major destination for Hispanic immigrants as well as for immigrants from Turkey, the Arab world, and South Asia. Paterson has the nation's second-largest per capita Muslim population.

Eastside High School (or EHS) is a four–year public high school located in Paterson section of Passaic County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, that serves the eastern section of Paterson. EHS, which serves ninth through twelfth grade students, operates as part of the Paterson Public Schools. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1928. Eastside High School opened on February 1, 1926.As of the 2022–23 school year, the school had an enrollment of 2,323 students and 133.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 17.5:1. There were 1,188 students (51.1% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 37 (1.6% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.The school mascot—the Ghosts—derives from the location of Eastside's football field, where a nineteenth-century cemetery once stood. A May 1927 article in The Paterson Evening News refers to the Eastside team as the "Galloping Ghosts".

It is one of a number of academy programs serving students in ninth through twelfth grades based at the Eastside High School campus. As of the 2020–21 school year, the school had an enrollment of 695 students and 48.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 14.5:1. It is one of a number of academy programs serving students in ninth through twelfth grades based at the Eastside High School campus. As of the 2020–21 school year, the school had an enrollment of 653 students and 49.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 13.3:1. There were 395 students (60.5% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 8 (1.2% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

The Paterson Public Schools (PPS) is a comprehensive community public school district that serves students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade from Paterson, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The district is one of 31 former Abbott districts statewide that were established pursuant to the decision by the New Jersey Supreme Court in Abbott v. Burke which are now referred to as "SDA Districts" based on the requirement for the state to cover all costs for school building and renovation projects in these districts under the supervision of the New Jersey Schools Development Authority.As of the 2020–21 school year, the district, comprised of 50 schools, had an enrollment of 25,937 students and 1,916.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 13.5:1. For the 2014–15 school year, the district anticipated a budget with total expenditures of $591 million and per pupil spending of $16,696.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "A", the lowest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.Among the 594 students who took the SAT in 2013, the mean combined score was 1120 and there were 19 students (3.2% of those taking the exam) who achieved the combined score of 1550 that the College Board considers an indicator of college readiness, a decline from the 26 students (4.3%) who achieved the standard the previous year.District enrollment in Paterson surged at the start of the 2015–16 school year, creating a public school enrollment of 700 students higher than expected and putting the school district in a situation of needing to hire teachers rapidly not long after the district had laid off 300 positions.

The Frederick William Cooke Residence was a historic building built 1883–1886 and located at 384 Broadway in the city of Paterson in Passaic County, New Jersey. Also known as the Cooke Mansion, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 8, 1982, for its significance in architecture, industry, and transportation. It was destroyed by fire in 1991.

Al-Huda School was an Islamic school located in Paterson, New Jersey. Al-Huda School officially closed down in 2014.The school served students in grades PreK-12. As of the 2009–10 school year, the school had an enrollment of 104 students (plus 12 in pre-K) and 11.5 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student-teacher ratio of 9.0:1.

The Paterson Armory, an armory in Paterson, New Jersey, was a facility of the New Jersey National Guard and an arena. The building at 461-473 Market Street was long disused and in a state of disrepair when on November 10, 2015, a fire damaged it heavily. As of November 16, 2015, the armory was in the process of being demolished. Certain decorative features, such as the keystone in the arch at the entrance, may be chiseled out and given to the Paterson MuseumIn January 2017, in the absence of proposals, the city relaxed regulations regarding the building site. to encourage re-use and redevelopment for commercial and residential uses. In July 2018, the city announced the potential sale of the armory for new construction including remaining historical elements of the building.
