The John Randle Center for Yoruba Culture and History is a civic and social club located at Onikan, Lagos Island, Nigeria. The centre is named after John K Randle, a physician from Sierra Leone, active in the politics of Lagos in the colonial era. The Centre is a tourist destination for people interested in culture, history, and heritage

The Tafawa Balewa Square, (TBS) is a 14.5-hectare (35.8-acre) ceremonial ground (originally called "Race Course") in Lagos Island, Lagos.

The Mobolaji Johnson Arena is a multi-purpose stadium in Lagos. It is currently used for football matches and it is the home stadium of various Lagos teams, most notably Ikorodu United F.C., Stationery Stores F.C., First Bank and Julius Berger FC. The stadium has a capacity of 10,000 people and is the oldest in Nigeria. Located on the southeastern corner of Lagos Island near Tafewa Balewa Square, the original stadium was built in 1930 and six years later named after King George V. Between 1963 and 1973, it became known as the Lagos City Stadium. The current Onikan Stadium was renovated and reopened for football and cultural activities in the 1980s. In March 2008, the stadium was banned for use the rest of the season by the Nigeria Football League when a pitch invasion injured many members of the Warri Wolves after a scoreless draw with First Bank.

Independence House is a 25 storey office building, this long time edifice is located west of Tafawa Balewa Square, Onikan Lagos.The project was commissioned by the British government as a testimonial to and as a good will support to Nigeria's independence in 1960.The building is built of reinforced concrete, the building has housed major corporations and also the Defense headquarters under the Babangida administration and was which was commonly referred to as Defense House. In 1993, portions of it caught fire and since the incident, the building has not been managed properly.

NECOM House (formerly NITEL Tower and before that, the NET Building) is a skyscraper located in Lagos. The 32-story building was completed in 1979, and houses the headquarters of NITEL. The communications spire at the top of the tower serves as a lighthouse beacon for Lagos Harbour. The building is constructed of concrete. The building was the tallest in West Africa at the time of completion.

Southern Nigeria was a British protectorate in the coastal areas of modern-day Nigeria formed in 1900 from the union of the Niger Coast Protectorate with territories chartered by the Royal Niger Company below Lokoja on the Niger River.The Lagos colony was later added in 1906, and the territory was officially renamed the Colony and Protectorate of Southern Nigeria. In 1914, Southern Nigeria was joined with Northern Nigeria Protectorate to form the single colony of Nigeria. The unification was done for economic reasons rather than political—Northern Nigeria Protectorate had a budget deficit; and the colonial administration sought to use the budget surpluses in Southern Nigeria to offset this deficit.Sir Frederick Lugard, who took office as governor of both protectorates in 1912, was responsible for overseeing the unification, and he became the first governor of the newly united territory. Lugard established several central institutions to anchor the evolving unified structure. A Central Secretariat was instituted at Lagos, which was the seat of government, and the Nigerian Council (later the Legislative Council), was founded to provide a forum for representatives drawn from the provinces. Certain services were integrated across the Northern and Southern Provinces because of their national significance—military, treasury, audit, posts and telegraphs, railways, survey, medical services, judicial and legal departments—and brought under the control of the Central Secretariat in Lagos.The process of unification was undermined by the persistence of different regional perspectives on governance between the Northern and Southern Provinces, and by Nigerian nationalists in Lagos. While southern colonial administrators welcomed amalgamation as an opportunity for imperial expansion, their counterparts in the Northern Province believed that it was injurious to the interests of the areas they administered because of their relative backwardness and that it was their duty to resist the advance of southern influences and culture into the north. Southerners, on their part, were not eager to embrace the extension of legislation originally meant for the north to the south.

Lagos Island (Ìsàlẹ̀ Èkó) is the principal and central local government area (LGA) in Lagos, it use to be the Capital of Lagos State until 1957. It covers the western part of the eponymous island and is part of the Lagos Division. As of the preliminary 2006 Nigerian census, the LGA had a population of 209,437 in an area of 8.7 km2. The LGA only covers the western half of Lagos Island; the eastern half is simply referred to as Lagos Island East LCDA.

General Hospital, Lagos is the oldest hospital in Nigeria.

First Consultant Hospital (also known as First Consultant Medical Centre) is a private hospital in Lagos. It is located on St. Gregory's College Road in Obalende, a neighborhood of Lagos Island, in Lagos. The hospital came to worldwide attention in 2014 as the hospital where the Ebola virus disease patient Patrick Sawyer was taken after becoming ill on arrival in Lagos. Sawyer later died at the hospital on 24 July.On 19 August, it was reported that the doctor who treated Sawyer at the hospital, Ameyo Adadevoh, had also died of Ebola disease. Adadevoh was posthumously praised for preventing Sawyer from leaving the hospital at the time of diagnosis, thereby playing a key role in curbing the spread of the virus in Nigeria.

Freedom Park is a memorial and leisure park area in the middle of downtown Lagos in Lagos Island, Nigeria which was formerly Her Majesty's Broad Street Prison. It was designed by the Architect Theo Lawson. The Park was constructed to preserve the history and cultural heritage of Nigerians. Monuments in the park reveal the Lagos colonial heritage and history of Her Majesty's Broad Street prisons. It was built to commemorate the 50th anniversary independence celebration in October, 2010. The Park serves as a National Memorial, a Historical landmark, a Cultural site, Arts and Recreation centre. The park, when it was a prison hosted some political activists who fought for Nigeria's independence.The park, which is now a serene abode for individuals, visitors' collective contemplation and interaction is open to the public every day. Today, freedom park has become a venue for diverse social events and recreational entertainment.

Holy Cross Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in Lagos, Nigeria, and is the seat of the Archdiocese of Lagos. The Gothic style building was constructed in 1939, when the region was still administered as an apostolic vicariate, and thus was only elevated to the status of cathedral in 1950.

Ikoyi Cemetery is one of many landmarks located in Ikoyi, part of the Eti Osa local government area of Lagos state, Nigeria. Many prominent Nigerians such as Herbert Macaulay are interred at Ikoyi Cemetery.
