It carries locally produced news and music shows, under the BPR News branding. The BBC World Service is heard overnight. WCQS is a Class C3 station. It has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 1,900 watts, with an FCC construction permit to increase power to 5,000 watts. The transmitter is on High Top Mountain Road in Asheville. Serving 14 counties across the mountainous terrain of Western North Carolina requires Blue Ridge Public Radio to broadcast on a host of sister stations and FM translators to effectively reach its audience. Asheville Radio Group, a subsidiary of Saga Communications, operates 105.9 The Mountain as well as adult contemporary WOXL and ESPN Radio 1310 WISE/970 WYSE. Asheville School is a private, coeducational, university-preparatory boarding school in Asheville, North Carolina founded in 1900. Eliada Home is a national historic district located near Asheville, Buncombe County, North Carolina. The district originally encompassed 10 contributing buildings and 3 contributing sites associated with a youth home complex in suburban Asheville. Of the original 10, only 5 remain. They included the early residential, administrative, and agricultural buildings of the home as well as a residence, a tabernacle site, a log guest cabin, and a cemetery. The primary buildings were the Main Building (built in 1915, but is no longer extant) and the Allred Cottage (1930). The buildings included representative examples of the Colonial Revival, Bungalow, Bungalow/craftsman, and Tudor Revival styles.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.In February 2021, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services ordered Eliada Home to shut down two of its cottages for high-risk teenagers, stating those cottages were "an imminent danger to the health, safety and welfare of the clients and that emergency action is required to protect the clients

Clyde A. Erwin High School is a public high school in Asheville, North Carolina, United States. The enrollment in 2018–19 was 1,316 students in grades 9–12. The school's mascot is the Warriors / Lady Warriors and the school principal is Chip Cody.In March 1999, Erwin stopped using "squaw" for its girls' teams because the word was considered offensive, with students selecting "Lady Warriors" in May.

Firestorm Books & Coffee is a worker-owned and self-managed "anti-capitalist business" in Asheville, North Carolina. Named after the firestorm, this infoshop operates with an eye on creating a sustainable, radical community event space. Firestorm features regular events, such as film screenings, political and economic teach-ins, local and traveling musicians and community workshops. Firestorm opened in May 2008, spearheaded by co-creators Libertie Valance and is run by an LGBTQ collective.

Buncombe County Boys' Training School is a historic school building located near Asheville, Buncombe County, North Carolina. It was built in 1927–1928, and is a two-story, granite and brick main building in the Tudor Revival style. It consists of three principal sections with a two-story, rear ell containing the kitchen and other service areas. The school was permanently closed in 1945, and the building was reopened in 1947 as the new County Home for the Aged. Since 1983, the building has housed an Army National Guard training center. The building was renovated around 2006 and today, houses Buncombe County's Emergency Services and Operations Center It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.
