Woodward Island

Indian Slough is a slough, tributary to the Old River, an old channel of the San Joaquin River in California. Its mouth is at an elevation of 7 feet (2.1 meters), at its confluence with the Old River. Its source is at its confluence with Kellogg Creek at an elevation of 7 feet (2.1 meters) at the location 37°54′58″N 121°36′18″W.

Fay Island is a small, partially submerged island in the San Joaquin River delta, in California. It is part of San Joaquin County, and managed by Reclamation District 2113. Its coordinates are 37.9485348°N 121.5652291°W / 37.9485348; -121.5652291 (Fay Island). It appears, almost completely submerged, on a 1952 United States Geological Survey map of the area.

The Orwood Tract is an island in the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta. It is part of Contra Costa County, California. It, along with Palm Tract to the north, are managed by Reclamation District 2024 (Orwood and Palm Tracts). Its coordinates are 37°55′42″N 121°35′00″W, and the United States Geological Survey measured its elevation as 13 ft (4.0 m) in 1981. It appears on 1913 and 1952 United States Geological Survey maps of the area.

The Victoria Island structure is a 5.5 km (3 mi) bowl-shaped structure buried in the shale sediments of the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, 12 miles (19 km) west of Stockton, California. The circular structure is part of a former sea bed, and lies 1,490–1,600 meters (4,890–4,250 ft) below sea level.Discovered during oil exploration and reported at the Lunar and Planetary Science Conference in Houston, Texas, in March 2007, it is thought to be a buried impact crater formed between 37 and 49 million years ago.Victoria Island, which the structure is named for, is in the San Joaquin River Delta at approximately 37.890°N 121.535°W / 37.890; -121.535. The current publications do not list a more precise location for the impact structure than the island.

Bacon Island is an island in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, twenty kilometres east of Antioch, and twenty kilometres west of Stockton. The 2,200 ha (5,400-acre) island is bounded on the west by Old River, on the north by Connection Slough, on the east by Middle River, and Woodward Island Canal on the south. It is in San Joaquin County, and managed by Reclamation District 2028. It appears on 1913 and 1952 United States Geological Survey maps of the area.

The Palm Tract is an island in the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta. It is part of Contra Costa County, California. It, along with Orwood Tract to the south, are managed by Reclamation District 2024 (Orwood and Palm Tracts). Its coordinates are 37°57′14″N 121°35′22″W, and the United States Geological Survey measured its elevation as 10 ft (3.0 m) in 1981. It appears on 1913 and 1952 United States Geological Survey maps of the area.

Discovery Bay is a census-designated place (CDP) in eastern Contra Costa County, California in the United States, about 60 miles (97 km) from San Francisco. It is located in the San Francisco Bay Area. As of 2020, its population was 15,358, a 15% percent gain from 13,352 at the 2010 census.Discovery Bay was originally a waterfront community built on a network of man-made dikes, surrounded by fresh water, except for the southeast quadrant, which comprises the golf course of Discovery Bay Country Club. Some homes have private docks with access to the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta. Newer developments have been added on former agricultural land to the west of the initial town-site. Road access is via California State Route 4.

The Jones Tract is an island containing Lower Jones Tract and the Upper Jones Tract in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, fifteen kilometres west of Stockton. The 4,900 ha (12,000 acres) island is bounded on the north by Empire Cut, on the northeast by Whiskey Slough, on the southeast by Trapper Slough, and on the west, Middle River. The tracts are bifurcated by the parallel running Mokelumne Aqueduct, West Lower Jones Road, and a railroad originally built by the Achison Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad, which now carries freight trains of the BNSF Railway and Amtrak California's San Joaquin. It is in San Joaquin County, and managed by Reclamation District 2039. It appears on 1913 and 1952 United States Geological Survey maps of the area.

Point of Timber is a former settlement in Contra Costa County, California. It was located on Indian Slough 2 miles (3.2 km) north of Byron, and about 2.5 miles east of Union Cemetery in Brentwood. It was originally named Point of Timber Landing. The landing was built by Josiah Wills, who organized the deepening of Indian Slough, connecting the landing to the Old River. Point of Timber got its name from the mile wide strip of open Oak woodland that ran from just east of the house of John Marsh along the course of Arroyo del Sur to the edge of the marshes bordering Indian Slough and Old River.: 416 The northern end of La Vereda del Monte, a trail through the backcountry of the Diablo Range to the Central Valley was located at Point of Timber. Joaquin Murrieta and other ranchers and mesteñeros used the trail along Arroyo del Sur to drive mustangs, captured legally in rodeos held on Marsh's Rancho Los Meganos, southward from Contra Costa County. From the time the Five Joaquins Gang was formed stolen horses were fed into the droves of mustangs at its various stations as they were driven down the Vereda.: 399, 413, 416, 418, 420 The community included a general store and a blacksmith shop. A post office operated at Point of Timber Landing from 1869 to 1882, with a closure from 1871 to 1872. Tule fires burned the landing about 1882, but it was rebuilt by 1884.Author Jack London anchored his yacht, "The Sea Wolf" at the landing while he collaborated with Captain C. W. Lent on a book, "The Seafaring Life of a Captain." London died before the work was finished. The book was never completed. Lent was a sea captain who had retired to Byron and operated a passenger ship between the landing and Stockton, California.

Kellogg Creek is a tributary of Indian Slough, in Contra Costa County, California. Indian Slough itself is a tributary of the Old River, an old channel of the San Joaquin River. Kellogg Creek was formerly named Arroyo Santa Ángela de Fulgino by Pedro Font, on April 4, 1776, as the expedition of Juan Bautista de Anza passed through the area.: 1  In the 19th century it was known to the Californios as Arroyo del Sur.: 399 The mouth of Kellogg Creek lies at an elevation of 7 feet (2.1 meters) at its confluence with Indian Slough in Contra Costa County. Its source is located at 37°47′23″N 121°42′51″W at the head of a canyon in the hills north of Brushy Peak, in the Diablo Range in Alameda County, California. It arises at an elevation of 1,162 feet (354 meters).

Widdows Island is a small island in the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta along the Old River distributary of the San Joaquin River. It is part of San Joaquin County, California. Its coordinates are 37°51′40″N 121°34′27″W, and the United States Geological Survey measured its elevation as 0 ft (0 m) in 1981. It appears on USGS maps of the area as dry land up to 2018; the latest 2021 topographic map shows the island now mostly flooded, with the old levee surrounding it still above water.
