New Croton Dam

Croton Gorge Park is a park in Cortlandt, New York owned and operated by Westchester County. It consists of 97 acres (39 ha) at the base of New Croton Dam, which is one of the largest hand-hewn structures in the world(after the Great Pyramids and the Great Wall of China). The park is a popular venue for fishing, picnicking, sledding and cross country skiing. The Old Croton Trail begins in the park, which also includes a baseball field and an impressive fountain occasionally operated with high pressure water from the reservoir. The fountain was reopened in 2000 after having been out of service since the mid twentieth century. The road over the top of the dam is one of four arteries for crossing the Croton River (only three of the bridges connect to public roads at both ends). Following the September 11 attacks in 2001, this road has been closed to non-emergency vehicles as a security precaution, though it remains open to pedestrians and bicycles, and a popular local venue. Previously, school buses had used the road as the best route available.

The New Croton Reservoir is a reservoir in Westchester County, New York, part of the New York City water supply system lying approximately 22 miles (35 km) north of New York City. It is the collecting point for water from all reservoirs in the Croton Watershed.

Salt Hill is a 699-foot-tall (213 m) mountain in the state of New York. It is located southeast of Peekskill in Westchester County. In 1950, a 73-foot-tall (22 m) steel fire lookout tower was built on the mountain. The tower ceased fire lookout operations at the end of the 1971 fire season, due to the increased use of aerial detection. The tower was later cut down or pulled over by unknown individuals, and the remains are still on the summit.

Teatown Lake Reservation is a nonprofit nature preserve and environmental education center in Westchester County, New York, U.S., located in the towns of Ossining, Yorktown, Cortlandt, and New Castle. The reservation includes an 1,000-acre (4.0 km2) nature preserve and education center, visited annually by around 25,000 people. Known by locals simply as "Teatown", the organization works to conserve biodiversity, teach ecology and promote nature-friendly living. Located in the Lower Hudson Valley's Hudson Highlands, Teatown Lake Reservation conserves open space, educates about the environment, sustaining the diversity of wildlife and plants.

Asbury United Methodist Church and Bethel Chapel and Cemetery is a national historic district containing a Methodist church, chapel, and cemetery at 19 Old Post Road in Croton-on-Hudson, Westchester County, New York. The church was built in 1883 and is a rectangular brick building with a multi-colored slate-covered gable roof in the Gothic Revival style. It features large Gothic-arched stained and leaded glass windows added in 1891 and a square, engaged, two stage tower. The chapel was built about 1790 and is a 1+1⁄2-story, two-by-two-bay, clapboard-sided building on a granite foundation. Francis Asbury (1745–1816) is known to have visited the chapel on September 20, 1795. The cemetery is in two sections and contains about 5,000 graves; the date of the earliest burial is 1801. It includes the grave of noted playwright and author Lorraine Hansberry (1930–1965).It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

Croton-Harmon High School is a secondary school located in Croton-on-Hudson, New York. It is administered by the Croton-Harmon Union Free School District, and serves 9th-12th grade students. There were 542 students enrolled in the 2006–2007 school year. In the 2018–2019 school year, there were 506 students enrolled. Due to an increase in students since its original construction, it was expanded in the 1950s with a gym, and again in 2005–2006 with eight new classrooms, an auxiliary gym, and a new library. Between 2006 and 2017, the library also included a space for students to use desktop computers. In 2017, the school received a grant for a Nureva Span system, which replaced the desktop computers in favor of a more collaborative learning support system. Croton-Harmon High School (CHHS) serves students in grades 9–12. The school is noted for student achievement, testing scores, its science research, world language, and performing arts programs, university in the High School and Advanced Placement courses, and graduation and college attendance rates. The school has a 13:1 student–teacher ratio and the school district spends an average of $20,506 per pupil (the national averages are 15.3:1 and $12,435, respectively). 100 percent of CHHS students have proficiency in mathematics and English. The school is consistently ranked within the top 150 high schools in the United States.

The Battle of Pine's Bridge was a minor engagement during the American Revolutionary War in the town of Yorktown, New York, on May 14, 1781. Loyalist forces under the command of James De Lancey surprised an American defensive position guarding the Pine's Bridge crossing of the Croton River held by the Rhode Island Regiment (which had some African-American soldiers) along with detached soldiers of the Massachusetts Continental Line and the New Hampshire Continental Line on the north bank of the Croton River, killing and capturing many of the American soldiers. Colonel Christopher Greene and Major Ebenezer Flagg of the Rhode Island Regiment were killed in the action. Greene and Flagg were buried at the 1st Presbyterian Church in nearby Yorktown where their graves are marked by a large monument. Near the monument, a second stone marker and plaque known as the Monument to the First Rhode Island Regiment honors the memory of some African-American soldiers who died defending their commander.

St. Augustine's Episcopal Church Complex is a historic Episcopal church complex at 6 Old Post Road north of Croton-on-Hudson, Westchester County, New York. The complex consists of the church and rectory The church consists of the original building and a later parish hall connected by an enclosed hyphen. The church was built in 1857, the parish hall was added in 1882, and the rectory was completed in 1910. The church and parish hall are in the Gothic Revival style, while the rectory is in the Colonial Revival style.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

Croton-on-Hudson is a village in Westchester County, New York, United States. The population was 8,327 at the 2020 United States census over 8,070 at the 2010 census. It is located in the town of Cortlandt as part of New York City's northern suburbs. The village was incorporated in 1898.

Launch 5 is a restored NYPD patrol launch presently in use as a United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Facility as well as for volunteer non-profit environmental, public safety and educational work. Launch 5 enjoys a rich history beginning with her construction and dedication in 1966 and continuing to this day including valuable missions and enjoying substantial media exposure. Her crew is a group of volunteers who donate time and money to keep her afloat and to take her to public service. In addition to being a working vessel, Launch 5 serves as a floating memorial to the officer she was named after, Patrolman Henry Walburger, who was killed in the line of duty in 1964. The vessel goes by both names - Patrolman Walburger and Launch 5. All NYPD Harbor Unit patrol launches are given a numbered designation welded to the outside of the wheelhouse. Patrolman Walburger was assigned No 5. She is fifty two feet in length, powered by twin diesel engines and weighs 25 tons.

Van Cortlandt Manor is a 17th-century house and property built by the van Cortland family located near the confluence of the Croton and Hudson Rivers in the village of Croton-on-Hudson in Westchester County, New York, United States. The colonial era stone and brick manor house is now a museum and is a National Historic Landmark.

Croton North station is a disused train station on Senasqua Road in Croton-on-Hudson, New York, United States. It was built by the New York Central Railroad in the late 19th century. In 1987 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as Croton North Railroad Station. It had long been out of active service, and was converted to office use three years before the listing. Despite the conversion it remains largely intact, and is considered an excellent example of a commuter railroad station from this era, when stations began to reflect the industrial role of the railroads. Included in the listing are two 1930s Pullman electric passenger coaches parked on a disconnected spur north of the station.
