New Croton Reservoir

The New Croton Dam (also known as Cornell Dam) is a dam forming the New Croton Reservoir, both parts of the New York City water supply system. It stretches across the Croton River near Croton-on-Hudson, New York, about 22 miles (35 km) north of New York City. Construction began in 1892 and was completed in 1906. Designed by Alphonse Fteley (1837–1903), the masonry dam is 266 feet (81 m) broad at its base and 297 feet (91 m) high from base to crest. At the time of its completion, it was the tallest dam in the world. It impounds up to 19 billion US gallons (72,000,000 m3) of water, a small fraction of the New York City water system's total storage capacity of 580 billion US gallons (2.2×109 m3).

Croton Gorge Park is a park in Cortlandt, New York owned and operated by Westchester County. It consists of 97 acres (39 ha) at the base of New Croton Dam, which is one of the largest hand-hewn structures in the world(after the Great Pyramids and the Great Wall of China). The park is a popular venue for fishing, picnicking, sledding and cross country skiing. The Old Croton Trail begins in the park, which also includes a baseball field and an impressive fountain occasionally operated with high pressure water from the reservoir. The fountain was reopened in 2000 after having been out of service since the mid twentieth century. The road over the top of the dam is one of four arteries for crossing the Croton River (only three of the bridges connect to public roads at both ends). Following the September 11 attacks in 2001, this road has been closed to non-emergency vehicles as a security precaution, though it remains open to pedestrians and bicycles, and a popular local venue. Previously, school buses had used the road as the best route available.

Teatown Lake Reservation is a nonprofit nature preserve and environmental education center in Westchester County, New York, U.S., located in the towns of Ossining, Yorktown, Cortlandt, and New Castle. The reservation includes an 1,000-acre (4.0 km2) nature preserve and education center, visited annually by around 25,000 people. Known by locals simply as "Teatown", the organization works to conserve biodiversity, teach ecology and promote nature-friendly living. Located in the Lower Hudson Valley's Hudson Highlands, Teatown Lake Reservation conserves open space, educates about the environment, sustaining the diversity of wildlife and plants.

Salt Hill is a 699-foot-tall (213 m) mountain in the state of New York. It is located southeast of Peekskill in Westchester County. In 1950, a 73-foot-tall (22 m) steel fire lookout tower was built on the mountain. The tower ceased fire lookout operations at the end of the 1971 fire season, due to the increased use of aerial detection. The tower was later cut down or pulled over by unknown individuals, and the remains are still on the summit.

The Old Croton Dam is a historic dam located in Yorktown, Westchester County, New York, now lying submerged beneath the waters of the New Croton Reservoir. The dam was built on the Croton River between 1837 and 1842, and was the first substantial masonry dam in the United States. Construction was delayed by a January 1841 storm that washed away most of the dam, with heavy downstream damage and loss of life.

The Thomas J. Watson Research Center is the headquarters for IBM Research. The center comprises three sites, with its main laboratory in Yorktown Heights, New York, U.S., 38 miles (61 km) north of New York City, Albany, New York and with offices in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

The Isaac Young House is an historic wood frame house on Pinesbridge Road in New Castle, New York, United States. It was built about 1872 in the Second Empire style. Its owner, Isaac Young, was a descendant of early settlers in the area. He chose the Second Empire style, more commonly found in cities and villages than on farms, possibly as a way of demonstrating his affluence. The present structure appears to incorporate parts of a vernacular late 18th-century farmhouse, leaving several anomalies in the current house as a result. The house's position atop a low hill would have, in its time, given it a commanding view of the region, including the Hudson River and New York City's skyline. The Isaac Young House is the only Second Empire house from that era in New Castle. There have been several renovations and alterations, including the removal of its original Italianate central tower. The current owners restored it extensively after purchasing it from the Youngs. In 2004 the house and its barn were listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Turkey Mountain is a hill (despite its name) located in Yorktown Heights, New York. The hill is located on a land reserve and is currently maintained by the Yorktown Land Trust. It is approximately of 125 acres (0.51 km2) of land.

Donald J. Trump State Park is a 436-acre (1.8 km2) state park in the towns of Yorktown and Putnam Valley in Westchester and Putnam counties, New York. The park consists of property that was donated to New York State in 2006 by developer and future President of the United States Donald Trump. Maintenance of the park was halted in 2010 due to budget constraints, and the park remains largely undeveloped. Most of the buildings have been demolished; only a few foundations and the existing tennis court remain. There have been several calls to rename the park.

Asbury United Methodist Church and Bethel Chapel and Cemetery is a national historic district containing a Methodist church, chapel, and cemetery at 19 Old Post Road in Croton-on-Hudson, Westchester County, New York. The church was built in 1883 and is a rectangular brick building with a multi-colored slate-covered gable roof in the Gothic Revival style. It features large Gothic-arched stained and leaded glass windows added in 1891 and a square, engaged, two stage tower. The chapel was built about 1790 and is a 1+1⁄2-story, two-by-two-bay, clapboard-sided building on a granite foundation. Francis Asbury (1745–1816) is known to have visited the chapel on September 20, 1795. The cemetery is in two sections and contains about 5,000 graves; the date of the earliest burial is 1801. It includes the grave of noted playwright and author Lorraine Hansberry (1930–1965).It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

The Williams–DuBois House is located at Grace Lane and Pinesbridge Road in New Castle, New York, United States. It was built by an early settler of the area during the Revolutionary War. In 1989 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.Originally built in the Georgian-influenced American Colonial style, it later acquired some Federal style decoration, particularly on the interior. The lunette windows on the second story may have been added later, after their use on a now-demolished local hotel. Despite later modifications, it is the only house from that era remaining in the town that has a gambrel roof. It remains a private residence.

Croton-Harmon High School is a secondary school located in Croton-on-Hudson, New York. It is administered by the Croton-Harmon Union Free School District, and serves 9th-12th grade students. There were 542 students enrolled in the 2006–2007 school year. In the 2018–2019 school year, there were 506 students enrolled. Due to an increase in students since its original construction, it was expanded in the 1950s with a gym, and again in 2005–2006 with eight new classrooms, an auxiliary gym, and a new library. Between 2006 and 2017, the library also included a space for students to use desktop computers. In 2017, the school received a grant for a Nureva Span system, which replaced the desktop computers in favor of a more collaborative learning support system. Croton-Harmon High School (CHHS) serves students in grades 9–12. The school is noted for student achievement, testing scores, its science research, world language, and performing arts programs, university in the High School and Advanced Placement courses, and graduation and college attendance rates. The school has a 13:1 student–teacher ratio and the school district spends an average of $20,506 per pupil (the national averages are 15.3:1 and $12,435, respectively). 100 percent of CHHS students have proficiency in mathematics and English. The school is consistently ranked within the top 150 high schools in the United States.
