Gerpinnes (French pronunciation: [ʒɛʁ.pin]; Walloon: Djerpene) is a municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Hainaut, Belgium. On 1 January 2018 the municipality had 12,660 inhabitants. The total area is 47.10 km2, giving a population density of 269 inhabitants per km2. Every year at Whitsun, a large procession is organised in honour of Saint Rolendis (Sainte Rolende). Participants are dressed as Napoleonic soldiers, and walk about 40 km around the whole municipality.

Loverval (Walloon: Lavervå) is a village of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Gerpinnes, located in the province of Hainaut, Belgium.

Montignies-sur-Sambre (Walloon: Montgneye-so-Sambe) is a town of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Charleroi, located in the province of Hainaut, Belgium. It was a municipality of its own before the fusion of the Belgian municipalities in 1977.

The Bois du Cazier (French pronunciation: [bwa dy kazje]) was a coal mine in what was then the town of Marcinelle, near Charleroi, in Belgium which today is preserved as an industrial heritage site. It is best known as the location of a major mining disaster that took place on August 8, 1956 in which 262 men, including a large number of Italian labourers, were killed. Aside from memorials to the disaster, the site features a small woodland park, preserved headframes and buildings, as well as an Industrial Museum and Glass Museum. The museum features on the European Route of Industrial Heritage and is one of the four Walloon mining sites listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 2012.

The Marcinelle mining disaster (French: Catastrophe de Marcinelle) occurred at the Bois du Cazier coal mine at Marcinelle in Hainaut Province, Belgium, on 8 August 1956. One of the largest and most notorious mining disasters in Belgian history, it led to the deaths of 262 miners many of whom were guest workers from Italy. On the morning of 8 August 1956, an accident occurred underground as a result of the attempt to use the hoist mechanism before a coal wagon had been correctly loaded into the lift. Cables were severed, and an electrical fire broke out at a time when there were 274 workers underground. As a result of measures introduced to respond to the labour shortage in post-war Belgium, the majority of the workers were guest workers from Italy and other parts of Europe. Although attempts were made to rescue the workers, 262 miners died of smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide poisoning. Widely covered at the time in newspapers and television reports, the disaster remains prominent in folk memory in Belgium. The Bois du Cazier mine now operates as a museum.

Châtelet (French pronunciation: [ʃatlɛ] ; Walloon: Tcheslet) is a city and municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Hainaut, Belgium. It lies on the river Sambre. As of January 1, 2018, Châtelet had a total population of 36,101. The total area of the municipality is 27.03 km2 which gives a population density of 1,336 inhabitants per km2. The municipality consists of the following districts: Bouffioulx, Châtelet, and Châtelineau. Châtelet was a long established independent city prior to its fusion with the other entities.

The Hanzinne is a stream, and a tributary of the river Sambre, in Belgium.Its source is located in Hanzinne, a part of the Florennes municipality in the province of Namur. It passes through Hymiée, Gerpinnes, Acoz and Bouffioulx and is connected with river Sambre in Châtelet.

The N5 is a road in Belgium connecting the small ring in Brussels and Philippeville via Charleroi (commonly named French: Route de Philippeville till the ring of Charleroi). This road could be one of the deadliest of the country. This is not only due to the traffic density and the old fashioned road safety features, but also because many country roads are joining onto a high speed lane, namely the tractors harvesting sugar beet. It has also been part of the history of Belgium in the Battle of Waterloo, during which the Imperial French Army went through this path to join the battlefield of Quatre-Bras/LignyThe N5 crosses or borders 17 municipalities in total. 4 municipalities are located in the Brussels Capital Region, 1 in Flemish Brabant, 5 in Walloon Brabant, 4 in Hainaut and 3 in Namur. Marcinelle (French pronunciation: [maʁsinɛl]; Walloon: Mårcinele) is a town of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Charleroi, located in the province of Hainaut, Belgium. Until 1977, it was a municipality of its own. The town of Marcinelle is renowned as the home of comics publisher Dupuis and as the birthplace of the celebrated Marcinelle school of Franco-Belgian comics. Many notable creators in the genre have been based in Marcinelle, lending to its reputation as a hub of comic artists. Marcinelle is also the place where serial killer Marc Dutroux lived, before his arrest.

Ham-sur-Heure Castle (French: Château d'Ham-sur-Heure) is a castle in Ham-sur-Heure, a village in the municipality of Ham-sur-Heure-Nalinnes, province of Hainaut, Wallonia, Belgium. From 1491 to 1941 it belonged to the de Mérode family, and from 1941 to 1952 to the descendants of Charles John d'Oultremont. They sold it to the municipal authorities of Ham-sur-Heure, who used it as their town hall. After the local government reorganisation of 1977 it became the town hall of the present municipality of Ham-sur-Heure-Nalinnes.

Pont-de-Loup (Walloon: Pondlô) is a village of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Aiseau-Presles, located in the province of Hainaut, Belgium. The residents of Pont-de-Loup are referred to as "Lupipontain(e)." The village is officially a "lieu dit" ("named place") in the commune of Tourrettes-sur-Loup.[1]. The village is best known for an annual religious festival in honor of Our Lady Del Manock. Our Lady of Manock is the subject of veneration for pilgrims hoping to invoke the saint's miraculous healing of deafness. Every year in August, a procession is held along with the feast day for the patron church of Saint-Clèt. The village is nestled in a bend of the River Sambre.

Tirou is a Charleroi Metro station, located in downtown Charleroi, in fare zone 1. Tirou is an open-air station located at street level (Rue de l'écluse) and offers same-platform bus transfer. The station's lateral platform are publicly accessible and serve as regular street sidewalks. The station and the nearby Tirou Boulevard are named after Joseph Tirou (1876–1952), a former Belgian politician and mayor of Charleroi.
