Loverval (Walloon: Lavervå) is a village of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Gerpinnes, located in the province of Hainaut, Belgium.

The N5 is a road in Belgium connecting the small ring in Brussels and Philippeville via Charleroi (commonly named French: Route de Philippeville till the ring of Charleroi). This road could be one of the deadliest of the country. This is not only due to the traffic density and the old fashioned road safety features, but also because many country roads are joining onto a high speed lane, namely the tractors harvesting sugar beet. It has also been part of the history of Belgium in the Battle of Waterloo, during which the Imperial French Army went through this path to join the battlefield of Quatre-Bras/LignyThe N5 crosses or borders 17 municipalities in total. 4 municipalities are located in the Brussels Capital Region, 1 in Flemish Brabant, 5 in Walloon Brabant, 4 in Hainaut and 3 in Namur. The Bois du Cazier (French pronunciation: [bwa dy kazje]) was a coal mine in what was then the town of Marcinelle, near Charleroi, in Belgium which today is preserved as an industrial heritage site. It is best known as the location of a major mining disaster that took place on August 8, 1956 in which 262 men, including a large number of Italian labourers, were killed. Aside from memorials to the disaster, the site features a small woodland park, preserved headframes and buildings, as well as an Industrial Museum and Glass Museum. The museum features on the European Route of Industrial Heritage and is one of the four Walloon mining sites listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 2012.

The Marcinelle mining disaster (French: Catastrophe de Marcinelle) occurred at the Bois du Cazier coal mine at Marcinelle in Hainaut Province, Belgium, on 8 August 1956. One of the largest and most notorious mining disasters in Belgian history, it led to the deaths of 262 miners many of whom were guest workers from Italy. On the morning of 8 August 1956, an accident occurred underground as a result of the attempt to use the hoist mechanism before a coal wagon had been correctly loaded into the lift. Cables were severed, and an electrical fire broke out at a time when there were 274 workers underground. As a result of measures introduced to respond to the labour shortage in post-war Belgium, the majority of the workers were guest workers from Italy and other parts of Europe. Although attempts were made to rescue the workers, 262 miners died of smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide poisoning. Widely covered at the time in newspapers and television reports, the disaster remains prominent in folk memory in Belgium. The Bois du Cazier mine now operates as a museum.

Marcinelle (French pronunciation: [maʁsinɛl]; Walloon: Mårcinele) is a town of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Charleroi, located in the province of Hainaut, Belgium. Until 1977, it was a municipality of its own. The town of Marcinelle is renowned as the home of comics publisher Dupuis and as the birthplace of the celebrated Marcinelle school of Franco-Belgian comics. Many notable creators in the genre have been based in Marcinelle, lending to its reputation as a hub of comic artists. Marcinelle is also the place where serial killer Marc Dutroux lived, before his arrest.

Tirou is a Charleroi Metro station, located in downtown Charleroi, in fare zone 1. Tirou is an open-air station located at street level (Rue de l'écluse) and offers same-platform bus transfer. The station's lateral platform are publicly accessible and serve as regular street sidewalks. The station and the nearby Tirou Boulevard are named after Joseph Tirou (1876–1952), a former Belgian politician and mayor of Charleroi.

On 6 August 2016, a man attacked two policewomen with a machete in Charleroi, Belgium, before being shot dead by another police officer.

Parc is a Charleroi Metro station, located in downtown Charleroi, in fare zone 1. It is an underground station with a central platform accessible from the street at both ends. Interior decoration, themed around the Lucky Luke Belgian comics character, features a fresco of the comics main characters on one side, and a short comics strip depicting a train attack by the Daltons on the other side. There's also a Lucky Luke statue outside of the station, near the park's eastern entrance. Until 26 February 2012 Parc was the terminus of former lines 55 and 88. Trams would arrive from Janson on the western side of the central platform, then move forward to a turnback siding in a short tunnel section south of the station, before returning to the station for departure on the eastern side of the platform. The turnback now forms part of the Parc to Tirou section. The station name (French for Park) comes from the adjacent municipal park.

Janson is a Charleroi Metro station, located in downtown Charleroi, Belgium, in fare zone 1. It is an underground station featuring a central platform, with street access at both ends. Interior decoration, designed by architect Jean Yernaux, is themed around the Belgian comics characters from Dupuis Publishing, a well-known Belgian comics publishing company based in Marcinelle (part of the Charleroi municipality). The station and the nearby Paul Janson Boulevard are named after Belgian politician Paul Janson.

Stade du Pays de Charleroi is a football stadium in the city of Charleroi, Belgium. It was built for the 2000 UEFA European Championship in Belgium and the Netherlands in replacement of the old stadium known as Mambourg. The name Stade du Mambourg officially changed in front of 25,000 spectators on 24 May 1999 during the inaugural match between Sporting and Metz. It is the home of Sporting Charleroi. Its capacity was 30,000 for Euro 2000 but was reduced shortly after to 25,000 in line with Charleroi's average attendances. The capacity was reduced again in 2013 to 15,000. After the capacity reduction, the stands T2, T3, T4 were covered by a new roof. Between 2014 and 2015, minor adjustments to the seating and compliance of the stands for European competitions have been made. The future of this structure of Charleroi is in doubt as the club plans to move to a brand new stadium in the periphery of the city.

Athénée Royal Vauban is a Francophone secondary school in Charleroi, Belgium. For much of its history it was a school for girls, originating from a private school opened by Mrs Dupuis in 1831. The royal decree of 26 Septembre 1881 created a state school for girls, Ecole Moyenne de l'Etat pour Demoiselles. It was officially designated a Royal Antheneum as per the Decree of the Regent of 27 August 1947. The preparatory section began having coeducational education in 1974, with coeducation affecting other portions by 1979. That year the school was renovated.

Charleroi-Central railway station (French: Gare de Charleroi-Central, Dutch: Station Charleroi-Centraal) is the main railway station serving Charleroi, Hainaut, Belgium. It is operated by the National Railway Company of Belgium (SNCB/NMBS). It was formerly called Charleroi-South railway station (French: Gare de Charleroi-Sud, Dutch: Station Charleroi-Zuid) until December 2022.Charleroi-Central is also the main TEC bus station in Charleroi, and a station of the Charleroi Metro.
