The Battle of the Natividad took place on November 16, 1846, in the Salinas Valley, in present-day Monterey County, California, United States, during the California Campaign of the Mexican–American War, between United States organized California militia and loyalist Mexican militia.

Rancho La Natividad was a 8,642-acre (34.97 km2) Mexican land grant in present-day Monterey County, California given in 1837 by Governor Juan B. Alvarado to Manuel Butrón and his son-in-law, Nicolás Alviso. Rancho La Natividad and Rancho Los Vergeles were adjoining ranchos along Gabilan Creek north of present-day Salinas. The headquarters of each rancho were close to the entrance to the pass through the Gabilan Range to San Juan Bautista. The Rancho La Natividad grant encompassed present-day Natividad.

Natividad (Spanish for "Nativity") is an unincorporated community and ghost town in Monterey County, California. It is located 5 miles (8 km) northeast of Salinas, at an elevation of 164 feet (50 m).Natividad was named for the Rancho La Natividad Mexican land grant which included the community. It was the site of a significant battle of the Mexican-American War in 1846. A post office operated at Natividad from 1855 to 1908. Natividad was a bustling station for stage coaches in the 1850s until traffic was re-routed through Salinas. The town declined after the completion of the Southern Pacific Railroad through Salinas in 1872, and its last remaining building, a saloon, was demolished in 1964.The Battle of Natividad of the Mexican-American War was fought just north of the townsite. A historical marker commemorates the battleground.

Northridge Mall features more than 110 shops, two restaurants, a fast-food court with eight outlets (2 vacant), a Round One Entertainment, and three department stores including Hobby Lobby, JCPenney, and Macy's with one vacant anchor last occupied by Sears. It receives approximately 7.2 million visitors annually with approximately 5,800 spaces in the open-air parking lot. It's the only indoor shopping mall between San Jose and Santa Maria.

North Salinas High School is a public high school established in Salinas, California. It is one of five primary high schools of the Salinas Union High School District. The school was founded in 1959 as the second high school in the system to relieve overcrowding at the original high school in Salinas, Salinas High School. Students at North Salinas usually come from Harden Middle School, Washington Middle School, and Gavilan View Middle School.

The name means "flower garden". Rancho La Natividad and Rancho Los Vergeles were adjoining ranchos, north of present-day Salinas. The rancho headquarters of each were close to the entrance to the pass through the Gabilan Range to San Juan Bautista.
