KION (1460 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Salinas, California, and serving the Monterey-Salinas-Santa Cruz region of the Central California Coast. It broadcasts a talk radio format and owned by iHeartMedia, Inc. The studios are shared with KION-TV in Salinas.KION transmits with 10,000 watts. To protect other stations from interference, it uses a directional antenna with a four-tower array. The transmitter is on Natividad Road at Old Stage Road in Natividad, California. Programming is also heard on 99-watt FM translator 101.1 K266BD in Carmel Valley.

Natividad (Spanish for "Nativity") is an unincorporated community and ghost town in Monterey County, California. It is located 5 miles (8 km) northeast of Salinas, at an elevation of 164 feet (50 m).Natividad was named for the Rancho La Natividad Mexican land grant which included the community. It was the site of a significant battle of the Mexican-American War in 1846. A post office operated at Natividad from 1855 to 1908. Natividad was a bustling station for stage coaches in the 1850s until traffic was re-routed through Salinas. The town declined after the completion of the Southern Pacific Railroad through Salinas in 1872, and its last remaining building, a saloon, was demolished in 1964.The Battle of Natividad of the Mexican-American War was fought just north of the townsite. A historical marker commemorates the battleground.

Rancho La Natividad was a 8,642-acre (34.97 km2) Mexican land grant in present-day Monterey County, California given in 1837 by Governor Juan B. Alvarado to Manuel Butrón and his son-in-law, Nicolás Alviso. Rancho La Natividad and Rancho Los Vergeles were adjoining ranchos along Gabilan Creek north of present-day Salinas. The headquarters of each rancho were close to the entrance to the pass through the Gabilan Range to San Juan Bautista. The Rancho La Natividad grant encompassed present-day Natividad.

Everett Alvarez High School is a public high school established in Salinas, California. The school is named in honor of Everett Alvarez, Jr., a much-decorated former U.S. Navy Commander and the 2nd longest held prisoner of war.

Gabilan Acres (Gabilán, Spanish for "Sparrow hawk") is an unincorporated community in Monterey County, California. It is located on San Juan Grade Road northeast of Salinas and Bolsa Knolls and 6.5 miles (10 km) west of Fremont Peak, at an elevation of 203 feet (62 m). The Gabilan Acres subdivision was laid out in 1940 and planned as a race-restricted community. By 1948 the neighborhood had 48 homeowners and children attended school in nearby Santa Rita. In 1964, The Californian newspaper recognized Gabilan as one of nine unincorporated subdivisions outside Salinas, along with Santa Rita, Oak Park, San Juan Acres, Bolsa Knolls, Spreckels, Pedrazzi, Pine Canyon, and San Benancio. In 1998 an 11-year-old girl was killed in her home in Gabilan Acres.

The Battle of the Natividad took place on November 16, 1846, in the Salinas Valley, in present-day Monterey County, California, United States, during the California Campaign of the Mexican–American War, between United States organized California militia and loyalist Mexican militia.

Rancho Sausal was a 10,242-acre (41.45 km2) Mexican land grant in the Salinas Valley, in present-day Monterey County, California, given in 1834 by Governor José Figueroa to José Tibúrcio Castro. An additional grant was made by Governor Pío Pico in 1845. The name is Spanish for "willow grove". The grant encompassed present-day Salinas.

Natividad Hospital commonly referred to as just Natividad is a 172-bed acute-care teaching hospital located in Salinas, California. The hospital is owned and operated by Monterey County and the hospital's emergency department receives approximately 52,000 visits per year.As a safety-net hospital providing healthcare to the residents of Monterey County for over 134 years, Natividad provides healthcare access to all patients regardless of their ability to pay. The hospital operates with a medical staff of over 300 physicians and has several specialty clinics as well as outpatient primary care clinics operated by the Monterey County Health Department. Natividad Hospital is a Level II Trauma Center providing the immediate availability of specialized personnel, equipment, and services to treat the most severe and critical injuries. In 2015, Natividad was formally designated as a level II trauma center.Natividad is the only teaching hospital on the Central Coast through its affiliation with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Recognized nationally and internationally as a model program, Natividad's Family Medicine Residency Program is postgraduate training for physicians specializing in family medicine. About 1/3 of the graduates remain on the central coast to establish a practice. Natividad is governed by a Board of Trustees, under the guidance of the Monterey County Board of Supervisors. Alisal (; Spanish for "Sycamore grove"), sometimes called East Salinas, is a neighborhood of Salinas in Monterey County, California. It is located east of downtown, at an elevation of 89 feet (27 m). The unincorporated community of Alisal was annexed to Salinas in 1963. Alisal is home to Alisal High School. The first post office at Alisal opened in 1866, closed in 1869, with service transferred to Gabilan. The East Salinas post office opened in 1940, was renamed Alisal in 1947, renamed back to East Salinas in 1949, and back to Alisal in 1950. Alisal's ZIP Code is 93905.

North Salinas High School is a public high school established in Salinas, California. It is one of five primary high schools of the Salinas Union High School District. The school was founded in 1959 as the second high school in the system to relieve overcrowding at the original high school in Salinas, Salinas High School. Students at North Salinas usually come from Harden Middle School, Washington Middle School, and Gavilan View Middle School.
