Rafina

Rafina-Pikermi (Greek: Ραφήνα-Πικέρμι) is a municipality in the East Attica regional unit, Attica, Greece. The seat of the municipality is the town Rafina. The municipality has an area of 40.501 km2.

Araphen (Ancient Greek: Ἀραφήν, romanized: Araphén) was the name of a deme of ancient Athens, situated on the eastern coast to the north of Brauron and Halae Araphenides, on the west of the current village of Rafina, located near the mouth of the river of the same name.The area was already inhabited in the Archaic Period and was flourishing due to the port which gave access to the Cyclades islands. Two settlements of that period were found on a hill two kilometers south of the port; now there remain a few archaeological finds, which were buried by modern constructions.

Mati (Greek: Mάτι, meaning "eye") is a village in Greece. The village is located on the east coast of the Attica region, 29 kilometres (18 mi) east of Athens, and it is a popular holiday resort.

Halae Araphenides or Halai Araphenides (Ancient Greek: Ἁλαὶ Ἀραφηνίδες, romanized: Halái Araphenídes) was a deme of ancient Attica, situated on its eastern coast between Brauron and Araphen, and was the harbour of Brauron, whence persons crossed over to Marmarium in Euboea.

Artemida (Greek: Αρτέμιδα, until 1977 Loutsa, Greek: Λούτσα) is an Eastern suburb of Athens. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Spata-Artemida, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 18.653 km2.

East Attica (Greek: Ανατολική Αττική) is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the region of Attica. The regional unit covers the eastern part of the urban agglomeration of Athens, and also the rural area to its east.

Teithras (Ancient Greek: Τείθρας) or Tithras (Τίθρας) was a deme of ancient Attica, of the phyle of Aegeis, sending four delegates to the Athenian Boule.As evidenced by the discovery of a sacred calendar, the deme revered Athena, Zeus, Heracles, Kore, and the heroes Datylus and Teithras. There was also a sanctuary of Dionysus, in which theatrical performances took place. In ancient times the dried figs produced in this deme were famous.In The Frogs by Aristophanes, the "Gorgons of Teithras" are characters invented by Aeacus to scare Dionysus. The playwright probably referred to the women of the deme, who were considered terrible and ugly by contemporary Athenians. Its site is located near modern Pikermi.

Phegaea or Phegaia (Ancient Greek: Φηγαία) was a deme of ancient Attica in the phyle of Aigeis. The Suda places Phegaea in the phyle of Aeantis.Phegaea's site is tentatively located near modern Ierotsakouli.

Nea Makri (Greek: Νέα Μάκρη) is a town in East Attica, Greece. Since the local government reform of 2011, it has been a municipal unit within the municipality of Marathon. The municipal unit has an area of 36.662 km2. It is part of the Athens metropolitan area.

Pikermi (Greek: Πικέρμι) is a suburb of Athens and a former community of East Attica regional unit, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Rafina-Pikermi, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 21.522 km2.

Myrrhinutta or Myrrinoutta (Ancient Greek: Μυρρινοῦττα) was a deme of ancient Attica, of the phyle of Aegeis, sending one delegate to the Athenian Boule.Its site is located near modern Nea Makri.

The Petalioi Gulf (Greek: Κόλπος Πεταλιών - Kolpos Petalion) is a gulf of the Aegean Sea, Greece. It stretches between the east coast of Attica and the south tip of the island Euboea. It takes its name from the Petalioi islands, that are situated in the northeastern part of the Gulf, off the Euboean coast. The Petalioi Gulf is connected to the South Euboean Gulf to the north. Its length is approximately 50 km long from north to south and its width is approximately 5 km in the north to about 50 km in the south. There are several uninhabited islands in the gulf, including the Petalioi and Makronisos. Promontories include Strongylo and Vigla in the island of Euboea.
