Oostzaan (Dutch pronunciation: [oːstˈsaːn] (listen)) is a municipality and a town in the Zaanstreek, Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. The municipality had a population of 9,689 in 2021. Oostzaan has a total area of 16.08 km2 (6.21 sq mi) of which 4.55 km2 (1.76 sq mi) is water. Oostzaan—together with Westzaan and Assendelft—are considered the "mother towns" of the Zaanstreek (the region around the River Zaan), of which they are the three oldest towns. Oostzaan also played a role in the VOC and WIC shipping and shipbuilding. In the 17th century Oostzaan had its own pirate, named Claes Compaen. Originally sailing from the Netherlands as a legal pirate captain, in the possession of pirate letters, he soon began to raid ships for his private account, from the English Channel, to the Mediterranean Sea and the African-Atlantic coast into even the Caribbean Sea. He liquidated the booty on the coast of Ireland, later in Salé and the Barbary Coast. A street in Oostzaan is named for Claes Compaen. The town has a Reformed church with a cruciform groundplan, the Great Church (1760), which contains two ship models that recall the days when Oostzaan was an important sea-faring community. In the Oostzijderveld area of Oostzaan stands a windmill, De Windjager (The Wind Hunter).

The Second Coen Tunnel is a tunnel under the North Sea Canal, next to the Coen Tunnel in Amsterdam. The tunnel was built in combination with a new highway connection, the Westrandweg, to the A5 motorway. The tunnel consists of 3 fixed lanes and two reversible lanes, which are opened in the direction where traffic is the heaviest. The goal of the Second Coen Tunnel is to lighten congestion which occurs before the original Coen Tunnel on the A8 motorway in the morning and the A10-West motorway in the evening. This greatly increases the accessibility of Amsterdam from the north of the Netherlands. The Second Coen Tunnel was procured under a Public-private partnership model under a DBFM structure (Design Build Finance & Maintain). The project was awarded to a consortium consisting of French group Vinci Concessions, CFE, Dredging International, Besix, Dura Vermeer, TBI Bouwgroep and Arcadis. The consortium was advised by financial advisors RebelGroup and Rabobank, with Clifford Chance acting as legal advisor in the project. Total costs of the project are estimated at 1,2 billion euros and construction started on September 7, 2009. The tunnel was officially opened on July 21, 2014.

The Coentunnel (1966) is a tunnel in the A10 motorway under the North Sea Canal in western Amsterdam. The tunnel is named for the 17th-c colonizer Jan Pieterszoon Coen. The tunnel itself is 1283 metres long of which 587 metres are fully covered. The tunnel connects the Zaan district with the western part of Amsterdam. The tunnel reaches a maximum depth of 22 metres. Before the tunnel was built the Hem ferry and, to a lesser degree, the Schellingwouder bridge were the most important connections between Amsterdam and Zaandam, and this was a serious bottleneck for traffic. In 1959 5,800 vehicles were ferried daily and waiting times reached 45 minutes or more. In the 1950s inhabitants petitioned successfully for a tunnel under the North Sea Canal. Construction commenced in 1961 and the total cost amounted to 45 million Dutch guilders. The opening of the tunnel was inaugurated on 21 June 1966 by Queen Juliana. In 2007, more than 100,000 vehicles passed through the tunnel daily, again ensuring traffic congestion. The Second Coen Tunnel has been procured under a public-private partnership structure, and construction started in the summer of 2009. On 13 May 2013, the new tubes opened for traffic and the old tubes were closed for extensive renovation. It is expected that all four tubes will be available for traffic by mid-2014.

Sport Vereniging De Meteoor are a Dutch amateur football (soccer) club from the Amsterdam borough of Amsterdam-Noord in the neighborhood Tuindorp Oostzaan, founded in 1923. The club hold a Sunday team competing in the Derde Klasse.

Zaandam (Dutch pronunciation: [zaːnˈdɑm] (listen)) is a city in the province of North Holland, Netherlands. It is the main city of the municipality of Zaanstad, and received city rights in 1811. It is located on the river Zaan, just north of Amsterdam. The statistical district Zaandam, which covers the city and the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 76,804. Zaandam was a separate municipality until 1974, when it became a part of the new municipality of Zaanstad.

De Deyselhof is a defunct restaurant in Landsmeer, Netherlands. It was a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star in both 1974 and 1975. The restaurant burned down in the night of 2 and 3 August 1976 and was never rebuilt.Owner of the restaurant was John de Boer, who was also the head chef in the restaurant's first three years of operation. He later appointed another head chef, who earned the Michelin star.De Deyselhof was a member of the Alliance Gastronomique Néerlandaise at least from 1971 to 1975.On the former location of the restaurant is now the estate Deijsselhof.

The hamlet was first mentioned in historical records in the late 14th century. It is named after a swamp, which is now located in a part of Kalverpolder. The oldest house in Haaldersbroek dates from 1661. It is a former fishing village. It consists of about 150 people.

Den Ilp (pronunciation ) is a Dutch village. It is located in the municipality of Landsmeer, North Holland, just north of Amsterdam. The village's population was 809 as of January 2007. In the Netherlands, the village is known for its abundant lighting displays in the weeks leading up to Christmas.

Wijdewormer is a hamlet in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is located in the municipality of Wormerland, about 5 km east of the town of Wormer, in the polder "De Wijde Wormer". De Wijde Wormer was poldered in 1626.Wijdewormer was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1991, when it became a part of Wormerland.
