Virugambakkam

Virugampakkam is a legislative assembly constituency in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Its State Assembly Constituency number is 22. It comprises a part of Chennai and falls under Chennai South Lok Sabha constituency for national elections to the Parliament of India. The constituency was created following delimitation of constituencies in 2007. It is one of the 234 State Legislative Assembly Constituencies in Tamil Nadu.

Alwarthirunagar is an urban locality in Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu, India. Alwarthirunagar Pin code is 600087 and postal head office is Valasaravakkam. It falls under Valasaravakkam municipality, in Maduravoyal (State Assembly Constituency) constituency in Tiruvallur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The word nagar refers to a settlement in sanskrit. The neighbourhood was developed by the City Lando Corporation in the late 1960s. With the opening of schools and shopping centres, Alwarthirunagar emerged as a service centre in Chennai's west. Twenty acres of forestation in the area acts against pollution. The area is traversed by state road number 113.

St John's Matriculation Higher Secondary School is a school in Alwarthirunagar which had its beginnings in the early 1980s. The school was founded by D John Ponnudurai. This school is part of IYAP consortium. The school follows Matriculation Syllabus for students between Grade 1 to Grade 10 and Tamil Nadu State Board for grades Eleven and Twelve. It has branches in Porur, Triplicane and a sister school in the name of the Good Shepherd in Alwarthirunagar. The medium of education is English with Tamil, Hindi and French as second languages. The school has three floors with the top floor being thatched. It has a creche and more classrooms across the street. The competition comes from Balalok, Avichi and A V Meiyappan. The school uses the R K Ground nearby for games and sports.

Valasaravakkam is a neighbourhood in the Chennai district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu and a residential suburb of the city of Chennai. It is located in the Poonamallee Taluk at a distance of approximately 15 kilometres from the Kilometer Zero stone. Valasaravakkam lies on the Arcot Road, one of Chennai's arterial roads. It is under the Maduravoyal election constituency. In October, 2011 Valasaravakkam Municipality ceased to exist and the area became part of Chennai Corporation as Ward Nos 149 and 152 (Zone XI), Southern Region, Corporation of Chennai. As of 2011, the town had a population of 47,378. Famous Sivan temple is in Kesavardhini.

St. Anne's Church which was the substation of Ashok Nagar was established as a parish in 1999, with Rev Fr Philip Manathra as the first parish priest. The church and the parochial house were constructed in 2000 and 2002 respectively by Rev Fr Philip Manathra.

Saligramam (சாலிகிராமம்) is a residential locality situated in the western part of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It is surrounded by Porur, Valasaravakkam and Maduravoyal. It is part of Chennai corporation under zone 11. Entry in to Alapakkam is through two main roads, that is, Arcot Road and Poonamallee High Road. Alapakkam belongs to Sriperumbudur Lok Sabha constituency and Maduravoyal assembly constituency.

Sridevi Nrithyalaya is a dance school based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The school was founded in 1987 and operates as a trust. The main aim of the institution is to support and promote the southern Indian classical dance form Bharathanatayam. It specialises in Melattur style of Bharathanayam.

The 2005 December Chennai stampede incident happened on 18 December 2005 in a school at MGR Nagar in Chennai, the capital of the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, where the relief supplies were distributed by the state government for the people affected by severe flooding. There were 42 deaths in the accident, which left another 37 injured. The state government appointed a one-man commission under retired justice A. Raman to look into the enquiry. The state government also announced a compensation of ₹100,000 for all the victims and ₹15,000 for the injured. During 2005, there were heavy rains in Tamil Nadu and its coastal areas were flooded. Many people were rendered homeless by flooding during November and December. Relief measures were announced by the government that necessitated collecting tokens from authorities in different centres across the city.

Aminjikarai taluk is a taluk of the city district of Chennai in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It was formed in December 2013 from parts of the erstwhile Perambur-Purasawalkam taluk and the Egmore-Nungambakkam taluk. It comprises the neighbourhoods of Aminjikarai, Anna Nagar, Arumbakkam, Koyambedu, Thirumangalam, Vada Agaram and Villivakkam.
