Ickworth

Horringer, formerly also called Horningsheath, is a village and civil parish in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England. It lies on the A143 about two miles south-west of Bury St Edmunds. The population in 2011 was 1055.

Little Horringer Hall is a Grade II-listed house in Horringer, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, England.There has been a hall in this location since the 17th century, and an earlier property was once the residence of Sir Richard Gipps. The present house was built around 1750 from red brick. A pair of bay windows and a replacement front door were added in the 20th century. It was the final residence of John Hervey, 7th Marquess of Bristol after he sold the remaining lease of the nearby Ickworth House to the National Trust owing to financial difficulties.

Horringer Court Caves is a 3.8-hectare (9.4-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest on the southern outskirts of Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk.This site has over 500 m (1,600 ft) of chalk mines, with five grilled entrances, which are used by bats for hibernation. They have been the subject of research since 1947. The main bats using the caves are Daubenton's, but other species include the very rare barbastelle, which have been recorded eight times in 36 years.This site in the grounds of a hotel is private property.

Whepstead is a village and civil parish in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England, located south of Bury St Edmunds. Once the property of Bury Abbey it became a possession of the Drury family at the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 16th century. Whepstead Church is dedicated to St Petronilla the only such dedication in England. In 1870–72, John Marius Wilson described Whepstead in his Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales like this: "WHEPSTEAD, a parish, with a village, in Thingoe district, Suffolk; 4½ miles SSW of Bury-St. Edmunds r. station. It has a post-office under Bury-St. Edmunds. Acres, 2,670. Real property, £4,281. Pop., 677. Houses, 140. The property is much subdivided. Plumpton House is the seat of W. R. Bevan, Esq. The church is good; and there are an endowed school with £35 a year, and charities £50"Hamlets in the parish of Whepstead include Melon Green, Mickley Green and Stone Cross Green. There is one pub in Whepstead called The White Horse, which is a free house built in the 17th century.A community centre is located on the B1066 Bury St Edmunds to Hartest road. It is managed by the local community and is regularly used for activities including keep fit, carpet bowls, and the cricket club.

RAF Westley is a former Royal Air Force satellite airfield located to the west of Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, England, between 1938 and 1946. It was established by the Straight Corporation which set up the West Suffolk Aero Club in May 1938, before the airfield was taken over by the RAF Volunteer Reserve.

Mickley Green is a hamlet in Suffolk, United Kingdom to the east of the village of Whepstead on the road to Melon Green.

Hay Wood, Whepstead is a 10.4-hectare (26-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest west of Whepstead in Suffolk.This ancient wood on poorly drained boulder clay has coppice trees of small-leaved lime and field maple with an understorey of hazel. Flora include wood spurge, herb Paris, ramsons and early purple orchid.The site is private land, with no public access.

Thingoe was a hundred of Suffolk, consisting of 31,850 acres (128.9 km2).One of the smaller hundreds of Suffolk, around 9 miles (14 km) wide and 11 miles (18 km) long, Thingoe contained the borough of Bury St Edmunds on its eastern border, though the town was considered a separate jurisdiction. The remainder of the hundred consisted of the land to the west of Bury St Edmunds. The River Lark rises in the hundred, flowing north to the River Little Ouse. The name derives from the words thing, a Norse word meaning "assembly", and howe, again Norse, meaning detached hill or mound.

Hardwick House was a manor house near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, owned by Sir Robert Drury, Speaker of the House of Commons, of Hawstead Place. It was subsequently purchased in the seventeenth century by Royalist Thomas Cullum, a former Sheriff of London. Experts in Suffolk county history as well as noted authorities in antiquarian and botanical matters, the Cullum family of eight successive baronets authored works on the county and its fauna and flora. Sir Thomas Gery Cullum, a Charterhouse graduate, medical doctor and member of the Royal Academy and the Linnean Society, was a well-regarded author on science and botany.
