Palmyra () is a town in southwestern Wayne County, New York, United States. The population was 7,975 at the 2010 census. The town is named after the ancient city Palmyra in Syria. The town contains a village also named Palmyra. The town is about 20 miles (32 km) southeast of Rochester, New York.

The district includes 207 contributing buildings, 2 contributing sites, 7 contributing structures, and 1 contributing object. It encompasses Palmyra's commercial, civic, religious, and residential core. Most of the buildings were built between about 1830 and 1890, and is representative of a quintessential canal town in New York State. It includes the previously listed Market Street Historic District, East Main Street Commercial Historic District, and Zion Episcopal Church. New areas in the district are the Palmyra Village Civic Center Area, Four Churches Area, Swift Cemetery Area, Residential West Main Street, Palmyra Elementary School Area, Residential Cuyler Street and East and West Jackson Street, The Fairgrounds, and Residential East Main Street. Notable buildings include the Village Hall (1866-1868), Griffith Block (c. 1893), First National Bank (1925), bandstand on the village green (c. 1906), First Methodist Church (1866-1867), Western Presbyterian Church (c. 1832), First Baptist Church (1871), St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church (1859-1870s), Alexander McKachnie House (c. 1830), Garlock Office Building, Sherburne Ford building (c. 1910), Palmyra Elementary School (1924), the Carlton Rogers House (1850s), and the Floral Hall (1856).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

The Book of Mormon Historic Publication Site is a historic site located in the village of Palmyra, Wayne County, New York, United States. The historic site includes the E. B. Grandin Building and some neighboring structures. It was in the E. B. Grandin building that Egbert B. Grandin printed and sold the first copies of the Book of Mormon. Because of the building's historical significance to Mormonism, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) purchased it in 1978. In the mid-1990s the church restored the Grandin building, while remodeling and adding to some neighboring structures to create a visitors' center.

East Main Street Commercial Historic District is a national historic district located at Palmyra in Wayne County, New York, USA. The district encompasses Palmyra's downtown business area and contains two blocks of solid, brick 19th century commercial architecture. These almost unbroken commercial facades are two and three stories high with a variety of cornice detail and first floor treatment. Included are a number of cast iron storefronts.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. In 2009, it was included in the Palmyra Village Historic District.

Market Street Historic District is a national historic district located at Palmyra in Wayne County, New York. The district consists of a set of commercial and residential structures built between the 1830s and 1880s. Some of the commercial buildings have cast iron storefronts.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. In 2009, it was included in the Palmyra Village Historic District.

Ambrose S. Lapham House is a historic home located at Palmyra, Wayne County, New York. It was built about 1869, and is a large 2+1⁄2-story, Italianate style brick dwelling. It has a low hipped roof with overhanging eaves and decorative brackets topped by a cupola. Also on the property are the contributing late-19th century wood-framed barn with its historic cupola, doors and horse stalls; a rustic late-19th century gazebo; and four extant historic brick piers along the property line.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

Palmyra-Macedon High School, known as "Pal-Mac", is a public high school located on the border of Palmyra and Macedon, New York, United States. It is part of the Palmyra-Macedon Central School District which serves the towns of Palmyra and Macedon. The principal is Andrew Wahl. The school colors are red and white.

The Palmyra New York Temple is the 77th operating temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). The site for the Palmyra New York Temple, atop a wooded hill in pastoral western New York, is in an area prominent in the early history of the Latter Day Saint movement. Nearby is the grove of trees known as the Sacred Grove in which the founder and first prophet of the church, Joseph Smith, reported having a vision in which he saw God the Father and Jesus Christ, an event known as the First Vision. The temple grounds, on the border between the towns of Manchester and Palmyra, are also on the grounds of the original Smith Family Farm. The church itself was organized thirty miles away in Fayette, New York in 1830.

The Sacred Grove is a forested area of western New York near the home of Joseph Smith where the foundational event of the Latter Day Saint movement took place. It is the location where Smith said he had his First Vision, a theophany, occurring in the spring of 1820. The exact location of the Sacred Grove is not known, but it would likely have been west of Smith's adolescent home on the border of the towns of Palmyra and Manchester. This area was being cleared at the time for farming by the Smith family, who were also using the trees to harvest maple syrup. The area has been purchased by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), which cares for the area and allows tourists to visit. Latter Day Saints view the place as a sacred site. The Sacred Grove was ranked the No. 74 Most Holy Place on Earth by religious leaders, writers and scholars in the Patheos multi-faith religion project Sacred Spaces: The 100 Most Holy Places on Earth.

The Smith Family Farm was the boyhood home of Joseph Smith, the founder of the Latter Day Saint movement.The farm—located in the townships of Palmyra, Wayne County and Manchester, Ontario County, New York—includes the Sacred Grove, the Smiths' restored frame home, and a reconstructed log home. The farm site passed into ownership of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) in 1915, and in the 1990s, the church restored the frame home, reconstructed the log home, and built a welcome center. Church missionaries provide free tours.
