National Railway Museum

The York Leeman Road railway depot, located in York, England, is a passenger multiple unit depot opened in May 2007 by Siemens. It services TransPennine Express Class 185s and Class 68 locomotives. The facility's shed code is YK.

York Integrated Electronic Control Centre was a major signalling control centre on the East Coast Main Line railway between London and Edinburgh. The centre also contained the electrical control centre for the line and the LNE regional control office of Network Rail. Its responsibility for signalling across Yorkshire was transferred to York Rail Operating Centre in December 2018.

York Rail Operating Centre (also known as York ROC) is a Rail operating centre (ROC) located at the south western end of York railway station in York, England. The site is one of twelve that will control all signalling across the mainland of the United Kingdom. It was opened in stages from 2014 onwards, with responsibility for signalling becoming active in January 2015. The York ROC accepted the role of its predecessor, the adjacent York Integrated Electronic Control Centre (IECC), in December 2018. Of the twelve ROC signalling centres that have been built across the regions for Network Rail, York is the largest and controls the London North Eastern (LNE) region which includes the East Coast Main Line between London King's Cross and the Scottish Borders.

York Central is a development on former railway land to the west of York railway station in York, England. The 45-hectare (110-acre) site is one of the largest brownfield developments in England. York Central is sometimes referred to as The Teardrop, because of the shape the development takes when viewed from above. Work on York Central started in 2021, and is expected to deliver 2,500 homes and 1,200,000 square feet (110,000 m2) of commercial space.

York railway station is on the East Coast Main Line serving the cathedral city of York, North Yorkshire, England. It is 188 miles 40 chains (303.4 km) north of London King's Cross and on the main line it is situated between Doncaster to the south and Thirsk to the north. As of June 2018, the station is operated by London North Eastern Railway.York station is a key junction approximately halfway between London and Edinburgh. It is approximately five miles (eight kilometres) north of the point where the Cross Country and TransPennine Express routes via Leeds join the main line, connecting Scotland and the North East, North West, Midlands and southern England. The junction was historically a major site for rolling stock manufacture, maintenance and repair. In Britain's 100 Best Railway Stations by Simon Jenkins, the station was one of only ten to be awarded five stars.

The Ivory Bangle Lady is a skeleton found in Sycamore Terrace, York in 1901. She was a high-status adult female, potentially of North African descent, who died in York in the 4th century AD. Her skeleton was found with bracelets, pendants, earrings, beads as well as a glass jug and mirror. She appears to have originally been from North Africa. A piece of bone inscribed with the words, "Hail, sister may you live in God" was found with her skeleton.

York Clifton Carriage Sidings was a stabling point located in York, North Yorkshire, England. The depot was situated on the East Coast Main Line and was near York station. The depot code was YC.

Holgate Bridge is a iron girder bridge in Holgate, York, England, which straddles the railway lines heading south out of the station. The bridge is set at a skew in comparison to the railway lines underneath, and carries the A59 road into, and out of, York city centre. The current bridge opened on 1 August 1911, and is the third bridge built at that location. During works carried out in the late 1980s when the East Coast Main Line was electrified, the bridge was raised by 12 inches (300 mm) to enable overhead line equipment to be installed underneath.

St Paul's Church is the parish church of Holgate, a suburb of York in England. The area fell within the parish of St Mary Bishophill Junior. Much housing was constructed in the district in the 1840s, and it was decided to build a new church. A site was found on the north side of Holgate Road. A building was designed by J. B. and W. Atkinson, in the Gothic Revival style. It was constructed from 1850 to 1851, designed to seat 700 worshippers. It was consecrated on 3 January 1856, and was given its own parish later in the month. Part of the nave was given to extend the chancel in 1890, and a new east window was added in 1906, to a design by George Fowler Jones. The church was Grade II listed in 1997. The church is built of brick faced with sandstone, and it has a slate roof. The piers are made of cast iron. It consists of a continuous nave and chancel, with north and south aisles, the nave extending one bay further west than the aisles. The west wall has buttresses and two tall pinnacles; similar pinnacles at the east end have been taken down. There is a bellcote at the gable end. There is a central doorway, flanked by narrow pointed arches, with a large rose window above. The east end has a three-light Geometrical window, while the other windows are lancets. On the north side is a vestry, and there is a basement under the north aisle. Inside the church is a king post roof, which also has collar trusses and arched braces. There is a gallery at the west end, which has been converted into an office and meeting room.

The Principal York is an historic Grade II listed building on Station Road, adjacent to York railway station, England. It is a five-storey building of yellow Scarborough brick and was completed in 1878, a year after the present station opened.

Queen Anne Grammar School for Girls was a single-gender female state grammar school in the city of York, England. It began in 1906 as the Municipal Secondary School for Girls and was based in Brook Street. At the end of 1909 the pupils were transferred to a new 5+1⁄2-acre site in Clifton. The school's name was changed in 1920 and Queen Anne was chosen as it was situated on Queen Anne's Road. The school emblem was a sphinx underneath which was a furled ribbon reading the school motto Quod Potui Perfeci.The school became a co-educational comprehensive in 1985. It closed in June 2000 and in 2001 St Olave's School moved to the site.
