University of Ouagadougou

The International Institute for Water and Environmental Engineering (2iE) is a higher education and research institute, a member of the Conférence des grandes écoles (CGE), based in Burkina Faso. Specializing in water, energy, environment, civil engineering, and mining, its engineering degrees have been accredited by the French Commission des Titres d'Ingénieur (CTI), granting them European recognition through the EUR-ACE label. 2iE was established in 2007, resulting from the merger and restructuring of the former inter-state schools EIER (École d'Ingénieurs de l'Equipement Rural) and ETSHER (École des Techniciens de l'Hydraulique et de l'Equipement Rural), created respectively in 1968 and 1970 by 14 West and Central African states.

The National School of Administration and Judiciary (ENAM), created on December 4, 1959, is a higher education institution for training administrative personnel in Burkina Faso, headquartered in Ouagadougou.

Sahelis Productions is a film and television video production and post-production company based in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. The company was founded in 1992 by Sékou Traoré (Director), Issa Traoré de Brahima (Director, Artistic Director) and Dani Kouyaté (Director).

For the museum in the USA, see National Music Museum.The National Museum of Music is in Ouagadougou, (Burkina Faso) in a two-story building on Oubritenga Avenue on the south side of the Phillipe Zinda Kabore School. The building that once housed the Association for the Development of African Architecture and Urban Planning (ADAUA) was renovated to accommodate the museum. The building is in Sudanese Sahelian style with dome-shaped roofs. It is in the centre of the city and is easily accessible to the general public. The first collection, put together between September 1998 and March 1999, is constantly growing. Instruments from all families are represented including aerophones, membranophones, idiophones and chordophones. Each object is the only one of its kind and varies from 5 to 200 years in age. The Confédération Nationale des Travailleurs Burkinabé (trans. National Confederation of Workers of Burkina; CNTB) is a trade union centre in Burkina Faso. It is affiliated with the International Trade Union Confederation. CNTB emerged from the Confédération africaine des travailleurs croyants.

La Maison du Peuple, Ouagadougou is a building in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. The building is 2,500-seat theatre that opened in 1965 and is still used for concerts and events. It is considered an important example of modernist architecture. The World Monuments Fund named the building as one of the most threatened buildings of 2022.

On 15 January 2016, gunmen armed with heavy weapons attacked the Cappuccino restaurant and the Splendid Hotel in the heart of Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. The number of fatalities reached 30, while at least 56 were wounded; a total of 176 hostages were released after a government counter-attack into the next morning as the siege ended. Three perpetrators were also killed. The nearby YIBI hotel was then under siege, where another attacker was killed. Notably, former Swiss MPs Jean-Noël Rey and Georgie Lamon were killed. Responsibility for the attack was claimed by Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) and Al-Mourabitoun.

Nineteen people were killed and 25 others were injured when suspected jihadists opened fire on a Turkish restaurant and hotel in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, on 13 August 2017. Police cornered the attackers, who took hostages and then were killed in an ensuing shootout.

Ouagadougou Airport (IATA: OUA, ICAO: DFFD), officially Thomas Sankara International Airport Ouagadougou, is an international airport in the center of the capital city of Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso. It was built in the 1960s, and it is approximately 1.5 kilometres (1 mi) southeast of the main commercial area. The site itself is approximately 4.8 kilometres (3.0 mi) in length, 0.5 kilometres (0.31 mi) in width at its narrowest point, and covers an area of approximately 4.26 km2 (1,050 acres). Its runway is 3,000 metres (9,800 ft) long. When the airport was built it was on the southern boundary of the city. Ouagadougou has since experienced rapid urbanization and the airport is now surrounded by urban development.Besides having outgrown its capacity constraints, Ouagadougou Airport is a source of pollution and risk. The government has plans for a new airport 30 km north of the capital.In addition to civilian traffic, the airport has a military sector.Ouagadougou Airport handles about 98% of all scheduled commercial air traffic in Burkina Faso. Air Burkina and Air France handle about 60% of scheduled passenger traffic. Between 2005 and 2011, air passenger traffic at Ouagadougou airport grew at an average annual rate of 7.0%, reaching about 404,726 passengers in 2011 and was estimated to reach 850,000 by 2025. In 2007 it was the 15th busiest airport in West Africa in passenger volume, just ahead of Port Harcourt (Nigeria) and behind Banjul (Gambia). The total air cargo grew 71% from 4,350 tons in 2005 to about 7,448 tons in 2009.

The Lycée français Saint Exupéry is a French international school in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. It serves levels maternelle (preschool) through lycée (senior high school). It was established in 1975. The secondary school is in the centre of the city while the primary school is in proximity to the hôtel Indépendance.As of 2016 there are about 125 employees and 1,000 students.

The Apostolic Nunciature to Burkina Faso is an ecclesiastical office of the Catholic Church in Burkina Faso. It is a diplomatic post of the Holy See, whose representative is called the Apostolic Nuncio with the rank of an ambassador.
