Redland Green School

Redland is a neighbourhood in Bristol, England. The neighbourhood is situated between Clifton, Cotham, Bishopston and Westbury Park. The boundaries of the district are not precisely defined, but are generally taken to be Whiteladies Road in the west, the Severn Beach railway line in the south and Cranbrook Road in the east. Redland is also the name of a council ward, which covers a slightly different area. Redland ward extends to the southern part of Bishopston, and does not include the part of Redland south of Redland Road, which is in Cotham ward. Redland is primarily residential, and is known as a popular student accommodation area, particularly with second and third year students from the city's university. Compared to Bristol averages, Redland ward has lower levels of deprivation, relative child poverty, premature mortality and crime. It has higher than average educational attainment, life expectancy, home ownership and car ownership.

Redland High School for Girls was a selective and independent, non-denominational girls' school in the suburb of Redland, Bristol, England. The school merged with The Red Maids' School in May 2016, with the new merged school named Redmaids' High School and based at the Red Maids' site from September 2017 in Westbury-on-Trym.

Redland Parish Church is a Georgian church, built in 1742, in the Redland suburb of Bristol, England. It is a Grade I listed building.

Redland railway station is on the Severn Beach Line and serves the districts of Cotham and Redland in Bristol, England. It is 3.3 miles (5.3 km) from Bristol Temple Meads. Its three letter station code is RDA. As of 2015 it is managed by Great Western Railway, which is the third franchise to be responsible for the station since privatisation in 1997. They provide all train services at the station, mainly a train every 30 minutes in each direction. The line through Redland was opened in 1874 by the Great Western and Midland Railways as part of the Clifton Extension Railway. The station itself was opened in 1897 following a petition by local residents. There were two platforms, with the main station building on the Bristol-bound platform and smaller facilities on the opposite platform. No goods facilities were provided. The main station building, although no longer in railway use, is the only original station building left on the line. In 1903 the station had 11 staff. The Severn Beach Line declined over the latter half of the twentieth century, with passenger numbers falling significantly. All station staff were withdrawn in 1967, with the line through the station reduced to single track in 1970, with the second platform taken out of use. Services had decreased to ten per day each direction by 2005, but have since increased to a train every 30 minutes in each direction.

Bishopston is a suburb of the city of Bristol in south west England. Bishopston is around Gloucester Road (A38), the main northern arterial road in the city and Bishop Road.

Redland Green is a park in the Bristol suburb of Redland. The park consists of a grassland area and an area of scrub and woodland managed as wildlife habitats by Bristol City Council in partnership with local community groups. A major event each year is Redland May Fair, organised by Redland and Cotham Amenities Society, which has been held annually for over 25 years on the first Monday in May and is opened each year by the Bristol street band The Ambling Band. The green was once farmland, part of the manor of Redland. The name comes from the Latin Rubea Terra and in Norman, la Rede Londe, describing the red soil of the area. The palace of the Bishop of Bristol once stood there, but was destroyed by bombing in World War II. Adjacent to the green are Bristol Lawn Tennis and Squash Club, Redland Green Bowling Club and Redland Green secondary school, and to the north there are allotments. Also adjacent to Redland Green is Redland Parish Church, a Georgian place of worship, built in 1742. It is a Grade I listed building, and was previously the chapel of local manor house, Redland Court, which is why it is not dedicated to any particular saint.The park consists of a grassed area and a larger area of scrub and woodland managed by Bristol City Council, in partnership with local community groups, to encourage biodiversity. The park is open all year round and includes a picnic area with picnic benches and a playground with equipment, including a climbing frame, swings, a roundabout, a sandpit and a zip wire.

Cotham is an area of Bristol, England, about 1 mile north of the city centre. It is an affluent, leafy, inner city suburb situated north of the neighbourhoods of Kingsdown and St Paul’s and sandwiched between Gloucester Road (A38) to the east, and Hampton Road to the west. Cotham is closely related to the neighbourhood of Redland to the north, with the Severn Beach Railway Line broadly marking where Cotham ends and Redland begins, though Ward boundaries show Cotham extending to Redland Road. Redland’s boundaries is usually taken to extend to Coldharbour Road. To the north lies Bishopston and Westbury Park, and Durdham Down to the west. Cotham and Redland together make up the Bristol City Council's Cotham and Redland Conservation Area.It is also the name of a council ward of the city, which also includes other areas.

North Bristol Post 16 Centre is a Sixth Form centre in Bristol, England. It is made up of two 'learning communities' at Cotham School and at Redland Green School. It opened in September 2007, one year after Redland Green School opened for Year 7 pupils. It is the sixth form for both schools, as well as its partner schools: Fairfield School, Henbury School, Orchard School Bristol, and Oasis Academy Brightstowe. It also accepts applicants from other schools across the wider Bristol area.

Cotham School is a secondary school with academy status in Cotham, a suburb of Bristol, England. The catchment area for this school is Cotham, Clifton, Kingsdown, Southern Redland, Bishopston, St Paul’s and Easton. The school shares a sixth form, the North Bristol Post 16 Centre, with nearby Redland Green School. The Cotham campus is situated in Charnwood House, although sixth form lessons also take place at the main school site. Construction on a new teaching and dining block was finished in 2018 and increased the school's capacity significantly.Cotham School is one of the few schools in the UK to have educated several Nobel laureates: Paul Dirac, who received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1933, and Peter Higgs, who received the same award in 2013. There are discussions being held regarding the merging of Cotham with Redland Green at a preliminary stage and consolidation of campus buildings.

Gloucester Road North is a road in Bristol, England. It runs through the suburbs of St. Andrew's, Bishopston and Horfield and is a part of the A38, a former coaching route north of Bristol to Filton and the M5 Motorway. The street is a focal point for local businesses, and is promoted by Bristol City Council as a centre of independent trade. The Bristol North Baths on Gloucester Road North were popular for most of the 20th century, and the location was used in filming for several television shows. Numerous shops and bars have achieved popularity in the local press for their unique contribution to Bristol. Graffiti and stencil art is popular and encouraged by some business in the area.

Western College, in Bristol, England, opened in 1906 as a theological college for the Congregational Union of England and Wales. The building was designed by the Bristol architect Henry Dare Bryan, and given Grade II* listing in 1966. It closed in 1968, and the building was subsequently used as the HQ of the Southern Universities Joint Examination Board, and since 1993 as a medical practice.

Cotham Church is a Gothic Revival style church in Cotham, Bristol, England. Since 1975, it has been a Church of England parish church known as the Church of St Saviour with St Mary or simply as Cotham Parish Church.
