Cotham Church

Bewell's Cross is a lost monument which marked the boundary of the county of Bristol when this was created in 1373. It stood in or close to the Gallows Field at the top of St Michael's Hill, the former principal road from Bristol to Wales via the Severn ferry at Aust. It was removed in or before the 19th century, and a stone claimed to be taken from its pedestal is built into the wall of Cotham Church, marked by a plaque. It appears to have taken its name from a spring a short way to the north-west whose name appears to be Old English for 'bee well'. But there was a Bristolian called Elias or Elys recorded in about 1270 with the surname Beowolf. It is just possible that Beowolf is a punning alteration of the name of the spring, although Beowulf is known as a rare surname elsewhere. Bewell's Cross may have been historically confused with Bewys Cross in Kingsweston, also now within the boundaries of the city of Bristol.

Cotham School is a secondary school with academy status in Cotham, a suburb of Bristol, England. The catchment area for this school is Cotham, Clifton, Kingsdown, Southern Redland, Bishopston, St Paul’s and Easton. The school shares a sixth form, the North Bristol Post 16 Centre, with nearby Redland Green School. The Cotham campus is situated in Charnwood House, although sixth form lessons also take place at the main school site. Construction on a new teaching and dining block was finished in 2018 and increased the school's capacity significantly.Cotham School is one of the few schools in the UK to have educated several Nobel laureates: Paul Dirac, who received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1933, and Peter Higgs, who received the same award in 2013. There are discussions being held regarding the merging of Cotham with Redland Green at a preliminary stage and consolidation of campus buildings.

Tyndall's Park is an area of central Bristol, England. It lies north of Park Row and Queen's Road, east of Whiteladies Road and west of St Michael's Hill, between the districts of Clifton, Cotham and Kingsdown. It includes the campus of Bristol Grammar School, and many of the buildings of the University of Bristol. The area is named after Thomas Tyndall, a Bristol merchant and investor in the slave trade who between 1753 and 1767 bought a number of fields which then existed in the area and turned them into an ornamental park. He built a stately house on the crest of the hill, on the site of a Civil War fortification, and named it Fort Royal (now known as Royal Fort House). In 1799 Tyndall's son Colonel Thomas Tyndall employed Humphrey Repton to landscape the gardens.In 1825 and 1833, two roads (Aberdeen Road and West Park) were built in the north western corner of the park, and developed for housing. In 1852 the Tyndalls began selling off the remainder of the western half of the park for development, and in 1877 5 acres (20,000 m2) were sold for a new building for Bristol Grammar School. From 1880, more land was sold to University College, Bristol. The Royal Fort was occupied by members of the Tyndall family until 1916, when Henry Herbert Wills bought it and gave it to the University.

North Bristol Post 16 Centre is a Sixth Form centre in Bristol, England. It is made up of two 'learning communities' at Cotham School and at Redland Green School. It opened in September 2007, one year after Redland Green School opened for Year 7 pupils. It is the sixth form for both schools, as well as its partner schools: Fairfield School, Henbury School, Orchard School Bristol, and Oasis Academy Brightstowe. It also accepts applicants from other schools across the wider Bristol area.

Western College, in Bristol, England, opened in 1906 as a theological college for the Congregational Union of England and Wales. The building was designed by the Bristol architect Henry Dare Bryan, and given Grade II* listing in 1966. It closed in 1968, and the building was subsequently used as the HQ of the Southern Universities Joint Examination Board, and since 1993 as a medical practice.

Cotham is an area of Bristol, England, about 1 mile north of the city centre. It is an affluent, leafy, inner city suburb situated north of the neighbourhoods of Kingsdown and St Paul’s and sandwiched between Gloucester Road (A38) to the east, and Hampton Road to the west. Cotham is closely related to the neighbourhood of Redland to the north, with the Severn Beach Railway Line broadly marking where Cotham ends and Redland begins, though Ward boundaries show Cotham extending to Redland Road. Redland’s boundaries is usually taken to extend to Coldharbour Road. To the north lies Bishopston and Westbury Park, and Durdham Down to the west. Cotham and Redland together make up the Bristol City Council's Cotham and Redland Conservation Area.It is also the name of a council ward of the city, which also includes other areas.

St Michael's Hospital is a hospital in Bristol, England. Built in 1975, it provides maternity services for Bristol. The hospital is managed by University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust.

Bristol Homeopathic Hospital was a hospital in the city of Bristol in south-west England, specialising in homeopathic treatments. The Hampton House building, designed by George Oatley, is a Grade II listed building. Hampton House is now being used as the student health service for Bristol University, offering a range of services to the students of the university.

The Centre for Nanoscience and Quantum Information (abbreviated NSQI) is a research center within the University of Bristol. The center opened in 2009 and was initially intended to serve multiple institutions; however, it was eventually absorbed into the School of Physics of the University of Bristol in 2016. The building was designed to provide a unique ultra-low-vibration research space, with some claims calling it "the quietest building in the world".

Kingsdown is an area of Bristol, located on high ground immediately north of the city centre and south of Cotham. It lies within the Cotham council ward. Kingsdown remained rural until the 18th century, but around 1737 land on the southern slope was laid out to become Bristol's first planned suburb. The area was fully developed over the remainder of the century, and as a result Kingsdown has a mostly Georgian character. There are more than 200 listed buildings, and much of the area has been a conservation area since 1973.St Matthew's Church was built on the northern side of Kingsdown between 1833 and 1835.

A statue of Henrietta Lacks was unveiled in Bristol in October 2021. According to The Guardian, the sculpture is "the first statue of a black woman created by a black woman for a public space" in the United Kingdom.

Colstons Almshouses is a historic building on St Michaels Hill, Bristol, England. It was built in 1691 and has been designated by Historic England as a Grade I listed building. The front wall and gates are also Grade I listed. They are named after the Bristol-born merchant, philanthropist, slave trader, and Member of Parliament Edward Colston. The almshouses were founded by Edward Colston for twelve inmates. They were expected to attend the chapel twice a day for a prayer reading. The baroque chapel contains panels made from ships' timbers and has a barrel vault. On the front wall of the chapel is a plaque to Colston.It is a two-storey limestone building with hipped roofs with triangular canopies over the individual front doors. The building is U shaped, arranged around a courtyard with a wall forming the front of the complex. The windows are divided by stone mullions and transoms. There is a central bell cupola.The building was renovated in 1988. The home provides twelve one-bedroom flats, laundry and communal lounge and a garden. The Society of Merchant Venturers is the trustee for the Almshouses.
