Cantagalo Station

Cantagalo–Pavão–Pavãozinho is a bairro (neighborhood), a grouping of two favelas in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, located between the bairros of Ipanema and Copacabana. As of 2010, it has circa 9,500 inhabitants.Cantagalo and Pavão–Pavãozinho were well known for violence, especially that associated with drug wars. However, beginning in December 2009, the bairro was pacified by a then-newly formed Pacifying Police Unit (UPP). On 30 June 2010, the Rubem Braga Complex was inaugurated in it, composed of two towers, an overlook (named by the inhabitants of the region "Mirante da Paz", or the "Peace Overlook") and two lifts linking the favela to the General Osório Metro Station.The Rio de Janeiro section of the 2009 first-person shooter video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was fashioned after the favela complex. Gospel music singer Fernanda Brum has a song entitled "Pavão Pavãozinho"; it was inspired by and had its music video shot at the favela.

The Eva Klabin House Museum (in Portuguese, Casa Museu Eva Klabin) is an historic house museum located in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is a private institution established in 1990 by the Brazilian collector and philanthropist Eva Klabin (1903–1991), with the purpose of preserving and displaying the art collection gathered together during her life. The collection is open to the public in the house where Klabin lived for over thirty years. It is considered one of the largest classical art collections in Brazilian museums, with over 2000 works spanning almost 5000 years, from Ancient Egypt to Impressionism.

The South Zone (Portuguese: Zona Sul - Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈzonɐ ˈsuw]) is an area of the city of Rio de Janeiro situated between the Tijuca Massif, the Atlantic Ocean and Guanabara Bay. Most of it is made up of neighborhoods along the Atlantic coastline, such as São Conrado, Vidigal, Leblon, Ipanema, Copacabana, and Leme. It also includes the neighborhoods of Urca, Botafogo, Flamengo and Glória, on Guanabara Bay, and Santa Teresa, Catete, Laranjeiras, Cosme Velho, Humaitá, Lagoa, Jardim Botânico and Gávea, bordering on Tijuca Forest to the West or North. Zona Sul includes a number of favelas, such as Rocinha, close to São Conrado, Vidigal, close to Leblon, Cantagalo and Ladeira dos Tabajaras, in Copacabana, and Morro Dona Marta, in Botafogo. It is in this region that the majority of the city's balneario beaches and hotels are located, as are the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, much of the Tijuca National Park, the Sugarloaf Mountain, with its cable car, the Corcovado hill, where the statue of Christ the Redeemer stands, and other natural wonders and tourist attractions. It is the richest region of the city and is visited by thousands of tourists from different parts of the world throughout the year.

General Osório / Ipanema is a station on Line 1 of the Rio de Janeiro Metro located in the Ipanema borough of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is the line's southern terminus. The station opened in December 2009.

General Osório Square (Portuguese: Praça General Osório) is a square in Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The square is bordered to the north by Rua Visconde de Pirajá, the main commercial street in Ipanema; Rua Jangadeiros to the east; Rua Prudente de Morais to the south, which extends west from the square; and the small Rua Teixeira de Melo to the west. General Osório Square was designed by José Antônio Moreira Filho, 2nd Baron of Ipanema (1830–1899), founder of Vila Ipanema, the precursor to the present-day neighborhood. The square was formerly called Praça Ferreira Viana, and later Praça Marechal Floriano Peixoto, In 1922 it was renamed in honor of Manuel Luís Osório, Marquis of Erval (1808–1879), a Brazilian military officer during the Paraguayan War. Saracuras Fountain, designed by Valentim da Fonseca e Silva in 1796 at the Convento da Ajuda, was moved to the square in 1911 after the demolition of the convent.The square was home to a happening titled "Flags at General Osório Square" (Bandeiras na Praça General Osório) in February 1968. Numerous artists of the period, including Nelson Leirner, Flávio Mota, Carlos Scliar, Hélio Oiticica, and others, decorated the square with textile art on the eve of Carnival. While the happening was not overtly political and attracted little attention from the military police, it closely predated the murder of Edson Luís de Lima Souto in March 1968 and the subsequent March of the One Hundred Thousand against the violence of the military regime. The Sunday Hippie Fair (Feira Hippie de Ipanema) at General Osório Square, a weekly art fair, dates to the same year.General Osório Station, the terminal station of Line 1 of the Rio de Janeiro Metro, opened in December 2009 northeast of the square.

Bairro Peixoto is a region in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil but it is not officially recognized as a neighborhood. Officially, it forms part of the neighborhood of Copacabana, but has distinct characteristics.

The Environmental Protection Area (APA) of Copacabana and Arpoador Promontories, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was created to protect its rocky coast and native plant life species. The APA ranges from Fort Copacabana to the "Girl from Ipanema" Park. Fort Copacabana was inaugurated in 1914 with a mission to protect the coast of Rio de Janeiro and the entrance to the harbour. Today the fort provides visitors educational and cultural activities. In the past, at very end of Arpoador Promontory - The Arpoador Rock- fishermen used to harpoon the whales that came to reproduce in this warm waters. The harpoon used by those fishermen gave the park its name and also has been used to identify the rock (in Portuguese Arpoador means fishermen who uses harpoon). The Arpoador Rock is preserved by the Municipal Historic Heritage. Also within the APA limits there is a public square called Girl of Ipanema Park after the world-famous song composed by Vinicius de Moraes and Antônio Carlos Jobim.

Fort Copacabana (Portuguese: Forte de Copacabana, IPA: [ˈfɔʁtʃi dʒi ˌkɔpakaˈbɐnɐ]) is a military base at the south end of the beach that defines the district of Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro. The base is open to the public and contains the Museu Histórico do Exército (Army Historical Museum) and a coastal defense fort that is the actual Fort Copacabana.

Ipanema (Portuguese pronunciation: [ipaˈnẽmɐ]) is a neighbourhood located in the South Zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, between Leblon and Arpoador. The beach at Ipanema became known internationally with the popularity of the bossa nova jazz song, "The Girl from Ipanema" ("Garota de Ipanema"), written by Antônio Carlos Jobim and Vinícius de Moraes.

The Edelstein Center for Social Research is a Brazilian think tank based in Rio de Janeiro, that: 1) promotes research and publications designed to improve public policies and institutions to enhance democracy and social justice in Latin America; 2) fosters the dialogue between social actors and knowledge producers to disseminate internationally Latin American social sciences production and research institutions; 3) develops free access virtual libraries, data banks and the translation of Latin American social research works into English.

Arpoador (literally, the harpoon thrower) is a region located on the southern zone of the city Rio de Janeiro, in a small peninsula between Ipanema and Copacabana. Part of its territory belongs to the neighbourhood of Ipanema, and part to Copacabana.

Fonte da Saudade is a region in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, which is not officially recognized as a neighbourhood. It is located in the neighborhood of Lagoa.
