University of Trnava

The Archdiocese of Trnava (Slovak: Trnavská arcidiecéza, Latin: Archidioecesis Tyrnaviensis) is a Latin Catholic archdiocese in western Slovakia including bigger part of the Trnava, and parts of Nitra and Trenčín regions. It has its seat in Trnava. Although it is an archdiocese, it is not a metropolitan and is instead a suffragan of Bratislava. In 2013 Pope Francis appointed Auxiliary Bishop Ján Orosch as the next Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Trnava.

St. John the Baptist Cathedral (Slovak: Katedrála svätého Jána Krstiteľa, Hungarian: Keresztelő Szent János székesegyház) is one of the most significant historic monuments of Trnava, western Slovakia.

The City Tower (in Slovak Mestská veža) is one of the most important historic monuments of Trnava, Slovakia. The tower's construction began on 28 July 1574. In 1666 and 1683 the tower was affected by fire and since then it has remained without a roof. The tower has a square ground plan in the shape of a solid prism with eight floors and is 57 metres high. The tower has a scenic gallery 29 metres above ground level. The corners and the highest floor are decorated with diamond sgraffito. On the south-west side is a sundial. In the alcove above the entrance is circular relief a symbol of Christ. On the top of the tower was originally a moon with a star emblem. This symbol was replaced by a statue of the Virgin Mary sometimes between 1739–1742, but since that time it was toppled by windstorm and replaced by a life-size gilt copper statue. In 1729 a clockwork mechanism from Franz Langer's workshop was added to the fifth floor. The bobs weigh 300 kilograms and hang on a 30-metre rope. In 1818 a new entrance into the tower was built above which was sgraffiti of Christ and the Latin lettering: Nisi dominus custodierit civitatem, frustra vigilat, gui custodit eam ("except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain", Psalm 127). The tower was reconstructed in 1938–1941 by the Pittel and Brausvetter company. The sgraffiti were covered by plaster and the statue was re-gilded in the workshop of Peter Michaletz. Another reconstruction took place in 1997–1998.

Trnava (Slovak pronunciation: [ˈtr̩naʋa] , German: Tyrnau, German: [ˈtʏrnaʊ̯] ; Hungarian: Nagyszombat, also known by other alternative names) is a city in western Slovakia, 47 km (29 mi) to the northeast of Bratislava, on the Trnávka river. It is the capital of the Trnava Region and the Trnava District. It is the seat of a Roman Catholic archbishopric (1541–1820 and then again since 1977). The city has a historic center. Because of the many churches within its city walls, Trnava has often been called "Little Rome" (Slovak: Malý Rím, Latin: parva Roma), or more recently, the "Slovak Rome".

The Status Quo Ante Synagogue in Trnava (Slovak: Synagóga status quo ante) was completed in either 1891 or 1897 at Halenárska Street in Trnava, Slovakia. The synagogue was built in the Moorish-Byzantine style. The city had two Jewish congregations: an Orthodox and a Status Quo one; the building served the latter. The synagogue was devastated in World War II. Today the synagogue is the center of contemporary art, housing the Ján Koniarek gallery, and hosts a number of exhibitions and concerts. Inside, apse and chapel are surrounded by a gallery for women, which is supported by cast iron columns with composite capitals. In the center of the chapel is a glass dome with its original design. Historically and to this day the synagogue is one of the most characteristic and most original buildings in the city. Its most characteristic features are the towers of spherical domes. The synagogue is no longer active. In front of the building is a monument dedicated to the Jewish victims of World War II.

University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava (Slovak: Univerzita sv. Cyrila a Metoda v Trnave) is a public university located in Trnava, Slovakia. Established by Law No. 201/1997 Z.z. from 27 June 1997. Since 2018, Roman Boča has been the rector of the university.Not to be confused with the other University of Trnava.

Saint Nicolas Church is a Gothic/Baroque church in Trnava, Slovakia. In 2009 Pope Benedict XVI granted the parish church of St. Nicolas the honourable title of minor basilica.

Anton Malatinský Stadium (Slovak: Štadión Antona Malatinského) is a football stadium located in Trnava, Slovakia, which is the home ground of the local football club Spartak Trnava. The stadium was completely renovated in 2013–2015 and has an all-seated capacity of 18,200 which makes it the second-largest football stadium in Slovakia. On 14 January 1998, the stadium was named in the honour of former footballer and manager Anton Malatinský, who died in 1992.

Trnava District (Slovak: okres Trnava) is a district in the Trnava Region of Slovakia. In its present borders the district was established in 1996. Before that date Hlohovec district was a part of it. It comprises the villages around Trnava, which forms an administrative, cultural and economy center of the district. The towns and villages are partly bedroom communities for the people who work in Trnava or Bratislava.

The Stellantis Trnava Plant is a major car plant in Slovakia and the most recently established Stellantis plant in Europe. It is located directly to the south-east of Trnava, approximately 60 kilometres (37 mi) from Bratislava and the frontier with Austria to the south-west.

Zeleneč (Hungarian: Szelincs) is a village and municipality of Trnava District in the Trnava region of Slovakia. Located about 8 km from Trnava it is a relatively big village, similar to other villages in Western Slovakia. Zeleneč inhabitants work mostly in neighboring production plants or sustain themselves with agriculture.
