Chimney Meadows is a 49.6-hectare (123-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest between Abingdon-on-Thames and Faringdon in Oxfordshire. It is also a national nature reserve, and part of the 308-hectare (760-acre) Chimney Meadows nature reserve, which is managed by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust.This site, which consists of six botanically rich alluvial meadows, is bordered on the south by the River Thames. The meadows are intersected by ditches, most of which are covered in reed canary-grass. The most common grasses are crested dog's-tail, creeping bent, perennial rye-grass, hairy sedge and glaucous sedge.

Chimney is a hamlet on the River Thames near Shifford Lock, 6 miles (9.7 km) south of Witney in Oxfordshire. It is part of the civil parish of Aston, Cote, Shifford and Chimney. Chimney Meadows 620 acres (250 ha) is the largest nature reserve managed by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust.

Duxford is a hamlet in the civil parish of Hinton Waldrist 5.5 miles (9 km) northeast of Faringdon. It was part of Berkshire until the 1974 boundary changes transferred it to Oxfordshire. It is on the south bank of the Thames, across which is its eponymous ford leading to a lock island which has a footbridge to Chimney on the north bank. This is the only ford today along the river, excluding along its intermittent brook at the source village, Kemble, Gloucestershire however the ford only crosses part of the river.

Buckland is a village and large civil parish about 4 miles (6.4 km) northeast of Faringdon in the Vale of White Horse District. Buckland was part of Berkshire until the 1974 boundary changes transferred it to Oxfordshire. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 588. Outside the village the civil parish includes the small settlements of Carswell and Barcote to the west, Buckland Marsh to the north, and the modern development of Gainfield on the southern boundary.

Buckland House is a large Georgian stately home, the manor house of Buckland in Oxfordshire, England (formerly in Berkshire). It is a masterpiece of Palladian architecture erected by John Wood, the Younger for Sir Robert Throckmorton in 1757 to replace a previous manor house. Buckland House has nine bays, the three central ones being narrow on each of its three storeys. Two wings of lower height adjoining connected by narrow galleries. The building overlooks a landscaped park, which includes gardens, a cricket ground and a 150-acre (61 ha) deer park. Buckland House is a Grade II* listed building. Nikolaus Pevsner described it as "the most splendid Georgian house in the Country", It is rumoured that a ghost of a white lady haunts the house.The previous manor house, Buckland Manor House, also a Grade II* listed building, was converted into stables in 1797 and is in the park.

Cote is a hamlet about 4 miles (6.4 km) south of Witney and 1 mile (1.6 km) north of the River Thames in West Oxfordshire, England. Cote is part of the civil parish of Aston, Cote, Shifford and Chimney. The hamlet of Cote stretches along Cote Lane, which seems to have originated as a road to a former crossing of the River Thames at Shifford.

Shifford Lock is a lock on the River Thames in England. It is in the centre of a triangle formed by the small villages of Shifford, Duxford and Chimney in Oxfordshire. It is at the start of a navigation cut built with the lock by the Thames Conservancy in 1898. This was the only new lock built on the non-tidal Thames in the era of falling revenue after the Thames Conservancy took over responsibilities of the Thames Navigation Commission. It replaced a flash lock in a weir about 3⁄4 mile (1.2 km) downstream. There is a small weir beside the lock and a larger weir on the old course of the river upstream at the top of the lock cut.

Tadpole Bridge is a road bridge across the River Thames in Oxfordshire, England, carrying a road between Bampton to the north and Buckland to the south. It crosses the Thames on the reach above Shifford Lock. It is a Grade II listed building. The bridge dates from the late 18th century, the earliest reference to it being in 1784. It is built of stone, and consists of one large arch. There is a public house near Tadpole Bridge called The Trout. Thacker noted that at one time the legend over the door read "The Trout, kept by A. Herring". The Trout is now a hotel and gastropub. The Thames Path crosses Tadpole Bridge.

Pusey is a village and civil parish 4 miles (6.4 km) east of Faringdon in the Vale of White Horse district. It was part of Berkshire until the 1974 boundary changes transferred it to Oxfordshire. The village is just south of the A420 and the parish covers about 1,000 acres (400 ha).

Cote Baptist Church stands in Shifford Road, Cote, 1 mile (2 km) to the east of Aston and 4 miles (6 km) to the east of Bampton, in Oxfordshire, England. It is a redundant Baptist chapel in the care of the Historic Chapels Trust, and is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building.

Hinton Waldrist is a village and civil parish in the Vale of White Horse, England. It was part of Berkshire until the 1974 boundary changes transferred it to Oxfordshire. The village is between Oxford and Faringdon, 9 miles (14 km) southwest of Oxford. The parish includes the hamlet of Duxford. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 328.

Hinton Waldrist Castle was in Hinton Waldrist about 7.5 miles (12.1 km) north of Wantage (grid reference SU376991). Hinton Waldrist spent most of its history in Berkshire until in 1974 it was transferred to Oxfordshire. The castle was originally a motte and bailey with a moat. The first castle was built of timber by the St. Valery family after the Norman conquest of England. In the Middle Ages the castle was rebuilt in stone when it belonged to the Bohuns, the Earls of Hereford. Mary de Bohun was brought up here and married Henry of Bolingbroke who became King Henry IV. Their son, Henry V, visited the castle often in his younger days. Only earthworks are visible today.
