Aston, Cote, Shifford and Chimney

Cote is a hamlet about 4 miles (6.4 km) south of Witney and 1 mile (1.6 km) north of the River Thames in West Oxfordshire, England. Cote is part of the civil parish of Aston, Cote, Shifford and Chimney. The hamlet of Cote stretches along Cote Lane, which seems to have originated as a road to a former crossing of the River Thames at Shifford.

Cote Baptist Church stands in Shifford Road, Cote, 1 mile (2 km) to the east of Aston and 4 miles (6 km) to the east of Bampton, in Oxfordshire, England. It is a redundant Baptist chapel in the care of the Historic Chapels Trust, and is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building.

Chimney is a hamlet on the River Thames near Shifford Lock, 6 miles (9.7 km) south of Witney in Oxfordshire. It is part of the civil parish of Aston, Cote, Shifford and Chimney. Chimney Meadows 620 acres (250 ha) is the largest nature reserve managed by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust.

Yelford is a hamlet in Hardwick-with-Yelford civil parish. It is about 3 miles (5 km) south of Witney.

Shifford Lock is a lock on the River Thames in England. It is in the centre of a triangle formed by the small villages of Shifford, Duxford and Chimney in Oxfordshire. It is at the start of a navigation cut built with the lock by the Thames Conservancy in 1898. This was the only new lock built on the non-tidal Thames in the era of falling revenue after the Thames Conservancy took over responsibilities of the Thames Navigation Commission. It replaced a flash lock in a weir about 3⁄4 mile (1.2 km) downstream. There is a small weir beside the lock and a larger weir on the old course of the river upstream at the top of the lock cut.

Aston is a village about 4 miles (6.4 km) south of Witney in West Oxfordshire, England. The village is part of the civil parish of Aston, Cote, Shifford and Chimney. The southern boundary of the parish is the River Thames. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 1,374.

Chimney Meadows is a 49.6-hectare (123-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest between Abingdon-on-Thames and Faringdon in Oxfordshire. It is also a national nature reserve, and part of the 308-hectare (760-acre) Chimney Meadows nature reserve, which is managed by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust.This site, which consists of six botanically rich alluvial meadows, is bordered on the south by the River Thames. The meadows are intersected by ditches, most of which are covered in reed canary-grass. The most common grasses are crested dog's-tail, creeping bent, perennial rye-grass, hairy sedge and glaucous sedge.

Shifford is a hamlet in the civil parish of Aston, Cote, Shifford and Chimney in Oxfordshire, England. It is on the north bank of the River Thames about 6 miles (10 km) south of Witney.

Tenfoot Bridge is a wooden footbridge across the River Thames in Oxfordshire, England. It is situated on the reach above Shifford Lock and was built in 1869. It connects Buckland on the south bank to Chimney on the north. The name derives from a pre-existing weir which had a 10-foot-wide flash lock (3.0 m) in it. In 1867 there were complaints about the state of the weir bridge and after a dispute, the Thames Conservancy removed the weir and built the bridge two years later.The Thames Path passes the bridge on the north bank, but does not cross it. The path formerly crossed the bridge to Duxford south of the old course of the Thames.

Duxford is a hamlet in the civil parish of Hinton Waldrist 5.5 miles (9 km) northeast of Faringdon. It was part of Berkshire until the 1974 boundary changes transferred it to Oxfordshire. It is on the south bank of the Thames, across which is its eponymous ford leading to a lock island which has a footbridge to Chimney on the north bank. This is the only ford today along the river, excluding along its intermittent brook at the source village, Kemble, Gloucestershire however the ford only crosses part of the river.

Cokethorpe School is an independent day school in Hardwick, West Oxfordshire, about 2.5 miles (4 km) south of Witney. It was founded in 1957 by Francis Brown. It is a member of HMC, IAPS, and The Society of Heads (formerly known as SHMIS). The school has approximately 660 students ranging in age from 4 to 18. The Prep School and the Senior School are on the same site. At the heart of the school is an early 18th-century Grade II* listed Queen Anne style country house. The school is set in 150 acres (1 km2) of parkland, and there is also a chapel in the grounds. The tower of the chapel was virtually destroyed in a fire in 1994, but it has since been demolished and rebuilt. The grounds have a number of rugby/football pitches along with the recently built astro pitches. An expertly carved 'giant' peacock stands at the central crossroads within the school grounds, a symbol of the school. The school has an outstanding recent sporting tradition with students playing national age group rugby (England under-16 and under-18) and also England women's hockey. The school also has numerous representatives in both regional and Oxfordshire rugby, football, cricket, hockey, athletics, and tennis. The school has also developed a reputation as a premier kayaking and sailing school, as well as for nurturing equestrian talents. The school operates a house system, with houses called Harcourt, Gascoigne, Swift, Queen Anne, Vanbrugh, Lower House (Year 7) and Feilden. The houses compete in sports such as house rugby and football for boys; hockey and netball for girls; and in field and track events at the annual school sports day. There are also competitions in the arts, such as house music, drama, photography and art. On-site is a theatre called The Shed, where drama productions, concerts and lectures are held. These can range from musicals to dance, even hip hop competitions.

Tadpole Bridge is a road bridge across the River Thames in Oxfordshire, England, carrying a road between Bampton to the north and Buckland to the south. It crosses the Thames on the reach above Shifford Lock. It is a Grade II listed building. The bridge dates from the late 18th century, the earliest reference to it being in 1784. It is built of stone, and consists of one large arch. There is a public house near Tadpole Bridge called The Trout. Thacker noted that at one time the legend over the door read "The Trout, kept by A. Herring". The Trout is now a hotel and gastropub. The Thames Path crosses Tadpole Bridge.
