Holtsee is a municipality in the district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The location of Holtsee is south of the municipality of Goosefeld or Altenhof, but north of Sehestedt or Lindau, and east of Haby.

Sehestedt is south of the municipality of Groß Wittensee, Haby or Holtsee, but north of Bovenau, and west of Lindau. It is divided into two parts by the Kiel Canal, which has to be crossed by a ferry.

Windeby I is the name given to the bog body found preserved in a peat bog near Windeby, Northern Germany, in 1952. Until recently, the body was also called the Windeby Girl, since an archeologist believed it to be the body of a 14-year-old girl, because of its slight build. Prof. Heather Gill-Robinson, a Canadian anthropologist and pathologist, used DNA testing to show the body was actually that of a sixteen-year-old boy. The body has been radiocarbon-dated to between 41 BC and 118 AD.

Goossee (Danish: Goos Sø) is a lake in Kreis Rendsburg-Eckernförde, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

The Eider Canal (also called the Schleswig-Holstein Canal) was an artificial waterway in southern Denmark (later northern Germany) which connected the North Sea with the Baltic Sea by way of the rivers Eider and Levensau. Constructed between 1777 and 1784, the Eider Canal was built to create a path for ships entering and exiting the Baltic that was shorter and less storm-prone than navigating around the Jutland peninsula. In the 1880s the canal was replaced by the enlarged Kiel Canal, which includes some of the Eider Canal's watercourse.

Bovenau is a village in the district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde, in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein. Bovenau is only 16 metres (52 ft) above sea level. The location is south of the municipality of Bünsdorf or Sehestedt, but north of Ostenfeld, Bredenbek, and west of Krummwisch, about 20 km (12 mi) away from the center of Kiel.

Windeby (Danish: Vindeby) is a municipality in the district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It is situated approximately 2 km west of Eckernförde. Windeby is part of the Amt ("collective municipality") Windeby. The seat of the Amt is in Eckernförde. Windeby is east of the municipality of Fleckeby or Osterby, but north of Goosefeld. Windeby means Wendish village in Danish and indicates a previous Lechite settlement in the village.
